Really interesting stuff from National Review's Eliana Johnson, whose latest campaign dispatch sheds light on just how close Newt Gingrich has become with the presumptive Republican nominee -- and how hard the former House Speaker is said to be lobbying behind the scenes for a spot on the ticket. Are you ready for Trump/Gingrich 2016, America?
Gingrich has, in effect, launched his own campaign to secure the nomination. I think Newt is lobbying to be the vice president, and I think their people are paying a lot of attention to him, says Ed Rollins, a Republican operative and former Gingrich staffer now working for a super PAC supporting Trumps candidacy.*snip*
Gingrich has a reputation for insinuating himself into campaigns by firing off dozens of e-mails brimming with ideas that range from brilliant to insane. While its a quality that has irritated previous presidential candidates such as John McCain and Mitt Romney, sources say that Trump has come to value the former speakers opinions. They talk every day, says a source familiar with the relationship, who claims that Gingrich e-mails Trump, campaign chairman Paul Manafort, and campaign manager Corey Lewandowski countless times a day....Gingrichs influence within Trump World is widespread. Inside Trumps newly established campaign offices in Washington, D.C., his fingerprints are everywhere. Right from the minute I joined we were told that Newt will have his hand in every major policy effort, says one Trump aide. So one of the things I do when Im researching or writing anything, in addition to looking at what Trump has said about anything, I look at what Newt has said.

I remember when Rush Limbaugh was bloviating on and on about Mr. Newt and how Mr. Newt was going to be Speaker as long as Sam Rayburn had been. As soon as he came into that office, he received a mega-buck book deal similar to the ones that he castigated others about. We need a younger person to be in that second chair that knows the inner workings of the current Senate and House; we need a 21st Century person
If Newt was irritating McCain and Romney then he is/was doing the right thing.
This guy has been wrong about Trump from the beginning and now I’m supposed to believe him when he says Newt is lobbying. “I think” doesn’t mean anything. Shut up Ed.
For the idiots that think we should look for a VP to help get a state(they never help by the way and its 1 out of 50 states), Georgia was looking close... By the way Newt is the best choice with Huckabee, Guliani and a couple others in 2nd place... Newt just needs to let Trump be Trump.
Trump needs Newt and We need them both right now! We have 8 years to find our next president!
If Trump selects Newt Gingrich, a GOP-E moral degenerate who undermined conservatives elected to Congress in the class of ‘94, he will be revealed as a total phony. Sorry. Third party all the way for me if any establishment candidate is chosen as Trump’s running mate.
Trump/Gingrich
Yes I’ve seen that same video. The practices of these secret societies are just sick. Despite how Hannity and others try to sell Newt as this bastion of conservatism, he is definitely involved in the secret society/GOPe/Dem Third Way cabal that has taken over DC. Like Reagan, it’s fairly obvious at this point Trump will pick someone (or maybe be forced to pick someone) tied into the current political structure to be his VP. In most cases the VP is a benign position with little power. Look at Biden. Unless they’re planning to take out Trump like they tried with Reagan, the VP position really isn’t that important...at least that’s what I’m telling myself when I see someone like Newt discussed as a serious candidate.
“Are You Ready For...Vice President Newt Gingrich?”
Yes.
Although it is his decision to make and I will support Trump regardless of his VP choice. I am just glad the Jeb and Lyin’ Ted don’t have ANY chance of being selected.
He adds nothing to the ticket. The VP job is, first and foremost, to help get the president elected. Newt fails big time here.
The second job is to take over in the event of the president's incapacity. He'd do a fair job here, but he'd be 78 by the end of a first term. There are lots of better choices.
The third job is to groom a worthy successor. Again, Newt fails this test big time.
please, no. Kiss of death!
What will he do for the win? His influence is nonexistent in any of the swing states, or anywhere else, for that matter. Trump needs someone younger and more inspiring, someone you could imagine as president one day. That isn’t Newt. You can bet that Hillary will get some young, handsome, silver-tongued, Obamaesque Hispanic.
I love NEWT, but no.
Are You Ready To Throw Away A Landslide?
Yes, he’s competent and loyal and smart. Did some good in WashDC, got some good stuff done ...
Has some downsides but certainly far, far better than about 100 other possible selections, imho.
Gotta keep Hillary OUT of our White House!!!
(Bernie would be a stronger candidate for the D’s, but Crooked Hillary has bought off the D party boss machine as we just saw with her stolen election in Kentucky...so...gotta keep Hillary, or either of them...they’re both disasters...keep them out of our WH!)
