Hillary Pledges Open Borders, Levin Responds with Attack on Trump’s Tariffs

Last week, Donald Trump met with the family members of Sarah Root, a beautiful, beaming 21-year-old girl slaughtered by an illegal alien in Nebraska the day after graduating from college with 4.0 GPA. Later that day, Trump warned, “Crooked Hillary Clinton wants completely open borders.”

Indeed, a review of Clinton’s campaign website reveals that her immigration plan is even more radical than that of Barack Obama, who completely suspended enforcement of America’s immigration law and printed hundreds of thousands of work permits for illegal aliens.

However, a much more pressing topic seems to have triggered the passions of radio host Mark Levin who, along with Jamie Weinstein, is one of the most vocal members of the #NeverTrump movement. In the course of two days, Levin penned two lengthy denunciations of Trump’s trade platform and Breitbart News’s coverage of it.

In a story featured on this website, Levin emotionally warns conservative Americans that Trump’s effort to boost American manufacturing represents a kind of existential threat to conservatism. Levin is seemingly unconcerned with the prospect that his energetic Trump-bashing could help place Hillary Clinton in a position to add millions more Third World migrants to America, who almost certainly will not support Levin’s vision of smaller government conservatism nor tune in to his radio show where he espouses the same.

Protectionism worked pretty well for the first 120 years of the republic.

Yeah, right. Look at the spike in annual GDP growth right after WWII when we fully embraced free(r) trade.

Looks like history tells a different story from what the protectionists want us to believe.

It’s worked wonderfully for Japan, China, Germany, and Korea.

On what do you base this opinion, feelings? You need to get out more. Have you ever been to any of these countries? China has 400 million people living on the edge of starvation. I've lived in Japan and I can assure you that I wouldn't trade our economy, and lifestyle, for theirs in any way. Korea? You have to be kidding. Ask a German which system is better, and if they are honest, you will find that our way is far superior. I've found that people who have little real experience with the world are always the first to sing the praises of the way others do things.

If you’re going to blindly follow the will of the free market...

Blindly following the will? Have you ever taken (and passed) a course in economics? If you don't trust markets, then you are a proponent of the command economy. Are you also a fan of five-year planning? If you trash markets, which are based on free people freely making decisions that benefit themselves, then you have no right to be calling yourself a conservative. You are at the opposite end of the freedom spectrum.

you may want to consider that there are markets for murder for hire, markets for abortions, and markets for prostitution.

Good thing we have a Constitution and the rule of law in this country. Are you one of the illiterates who thinks Mogadishu represents a truly free market? You should think more before posting such nonsense.

After WWII the USA was the only manufacturing power left. We had trade SURPLUSES all the way until 1980. Trade was around 10-13% of the economy until massive Free Trade debacle of the 1990's.

Yes, WW2 the war we won by have 10 times the industry of anyone else built up in 120 years of protectionism. All gone in just 40 years of full free trade. We'd lose ww2 today because China has all our industrial capacity to mass produce war material.

And sure, so called free trade was pretty good for us for a while. From WW2 to the 70s our government used protectionism to make sure the US didn't run a trade imbalance. Since our trade imbalance went negative our industry has fled and we've headed down the road to 3ed world crap hole, just like the UK before us.

I've read plenty of economic text books and most are 90% lies. Economics is full of nice sounding ideas and very few facts. Studying the actual process of how nations rise and fall serves me much better than reading lies and false predictions written by academicians who've never had to apply their work to the real world.

If you want to learn the truth go read the amazing rise of so many nations in recent years and their heavily protectionist policies.

Except for the fact that we manufacture more today than at any other time in our history, I'm sure you're right and we don't make nuttin here no mo.

Nonsense. We run a current account deficit because we're a rich country. Our current account deficit increases the most when our economy is growing the fastest. If what you said had any credibility whatsoever, the chart I posted previously would look very different. It's impossible to plead doom when our economic growth has been increasing like that.

If you had actually done the reading you claim to have done, you'd know that an economy built on protectionist policies suffers, as do their people. You'd also know that further empowering government control of the economy never ends well. Japan runs a huge trade surplus and employs an endless array of protectionist policies. For the past 25 years, however, they've been mired in a no growth/deflationary spiral. How is that possible? Yeah, let's be like them.

It's just the opposite but that doesn't surprise me given your knowledge of the subject. You conveniently neglect to mention that government policy on taxes, regulation, unions and litigation has a much greater influence over economic growth than trade. But your myopia has you convinced freedom is the problem. Why you want to argue against freedom on a forum dedicated to freedom is a mystery.

Good point. That’s not by accident. They think trade caused the problems they identify, not the unions that killed rust belt industries by not allowing them to compete, or the never ending regulations and taxes imposed by their beloved big government.
