Mike Lee(R-Utah) said Wednesday that he is not ready to endorse presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump
"I have not supported Donald Trump up to this point, I have not endorsed him," Lee said, according to The Washington Examiner.
"I have some concerns with him. He scares me to death; so does Hillary Clinton
. There is no easy choice right now." Lee had previously endorsed Ted Cruz
, before the Texas senator ended his presidential bid earlier this month. At the time, he said Cruz had a "proven record of fighting for our conservative values and for the issues that matter most to Americans."
The Utah senator said he plans to continue following the election and will make a choice in the future.
"I'll make the decision as best I can," he said, "but I'm not there yet."
Lee now joins several other Republican leaders, who have said they are not ready to endorse Trump or said that they don't plan to vote for the presumptive nominee in a general election.
Speaker Paul Ryan said last week that he was "just not ready" to endorse the presumptive GOP nominee.
"Drinking the Kool-Aid" implies that he's come to believe or accept something that's not true or that's toxic.
He's saying he's still a sceptic and hasn't been able to convince himself of something.
So it's something like the opposite.
Mike, what about Obama and Hillary? Now there are two scary individuals? Surely they scare you more than Trump? Or do they? Your comment is very telling about your true self, and it is quite different from what I thought you were.
The thing that scares me is a tea party candidate who sides with the gopE on ANYTHING.
I’ve never seen this before. A person wins the vote and the losers think they can call the shots.
Trump does scare a lot of people who wonder what he'll do as president or whether he'll follow through with what he says. They may turn out to be right. Who knows? It would be a good idea not to jump all over anybody who confesses to doubts right now.
They’re all bought or blackmailed.
Ross Perot said “Surely we can find 535 honest men and women who will go to Washington to serve”. He was wrong.
But Mike Lee is supposed to be conservative and most all of Trump’s goals are among the most conservative ever.
What is the problem?
Mike Lee came out of the closet last year when he joined Schumer and Durbin in sponsoring The Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act.
Disagreement makes the world go round. I hope I’m wrong about Trump. There’s a first time for everything!
It’s not complicated. He’s running against Hillary - that’s why I’m voting for him. No other reason - I expect him to not be Hillary, anything above that will be an unexpected bonus.
Canadian Cruz and Lee the Morman are connected at the hip. The only senator to really endorse him. I don’t know which one is crazier.
Ryan is an open borders globalist of the first degree. He’s also funded ObamaCare and anything else Obama wanted. Ryan is a skinny version of Boehner. Ryan is not a conservative.
I realize Ryan is nothing but a NEW WORLD ORDER SOCIALIST. ASSH###
I hope he hasn’t started taking orders from seat-mate Orrin Grant Hatch.
Nice. And blasphemy too!
Mr Trump knows words. He has the best words.
All conservatism is social conservatism. The GOP is a no-legged stool now.
See there unlike a lot of people you have something to look forward to.
Paul Ryan? Turncoat.
