Sen. John McCain is chastising GOP leaders for failing to embrace Donald Trump as the choice of millions of voters, laying out his most extensive views to date about Trump at the top of the ticket. He's also repudiating some of the presumptive nominee's comments -- particularly about prisoners of war.
In a wide-ranging "State of the Union" interview in his campaign office in Phoenix, McCain criticized party leaders who are reluctant to back Trump, saying they are "out of step" with voters who have chosen the controversial businessman as the GOP standard-bearer. He defended Trump for being a strong and "capable" leader, particularly on foreign policy. He called on Trump to choose a running mate who could "unite the party," possibly Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst, even as he strongly defended his 2008 choice of Sarah Palin.

The "hero incident" was a technical point so it's a half empty or half full story. John knew exactly what Trump meant and should have bit his tongue.
He would be on the Graham team criticizing Trump if it weren't for that pesky election.
Riddle me this Freepers, if McCain had a commanding lead in the primary, would he be kissing ass right now?
Actually McCain is in the fight of his life...hence sucking up to the voters!!
This position of McCain’s says more about the fire he’s feeling under his glutes than anything else.
You know it.
McStain will always be the same.
I sure hope Palin stays away from him.
(...even as he strongly defended his 2008 choice of Sarah Palin.)
Seriously? When was that? He said nothing while his “consultant” Schmidt was savaging Sarah. Between Schmidt, John McCain, and his bitchy daughter, I have written off the whole lot of them. I don’t care what he says. His actions scream so loudly I can’t hear what he says!
I recall Crazy McCain calling Trump supporters crazy or something like that. This was early in the primary race.
-—McCain is doing the right thing,-—
It must be election time...
McCain put on his “conservative” mask...
After the primary, full time anti trump...
“......they are helping Hillary become president. Do they really want that?”.......
Based on all those who a backing away from voting for or supporting Trump, the answer to your question is, “it appears so”. The rinos would rather have a known crooked, lying has been than someone who just may be able to save this country.
Will McCain campaign with Trump for President while he is running for re-election?
“The day after he wins the primary he will be full time nevertrump”
If he wins re-election you can count on McCain going on all the Sunday shows and back stabbing Trump at every opportunity.
McCain is up for reelection, and facing a primary challenge. Any other year he would be a #nevertrump and calling the voters “crazies” as he called the 20,000 at an AZ Trump rally a year ago.
Must be election time for McCain. A few months of posturing, then back to being a consistent liberal.

Regarding POWs (that's captured jihadists to normal people), I'm closer to Trump's position (waterboarding is fine, but a hungry rat in a cage inches from the face has been shown to improve memory). And I don't think Ernst would be Trump's best choice of running mate, although there's no question she can campaign. Not sure she's got the killer instinct that will be needed.
I see you’ve seen this film before.
Classic McCain—conciliatory during election year, a foul SOB after he wins.
McCain is about to be devoured by wacko-birds...he’ll say anything.
