Well that’s an elected office that position wise is above Trump’s current place-hold. Trumps basically declaring it’s not your party...it’s mine.
Thus this is why many along the way have stated that Trumps campaign has been all about a ‘hostile takeover’ of the Republican Party. Like in Corporate takeovers, that’s not attempted unless a company and it’s management is weak. Trumps applied the same principle .....only he’s run his 3rd party inside the Republican Party itself.

I don’t know about any fix....but whatever is going on may very well be either a set up for a walk by Trump or a full throttle by Trump to destroy the Gop entire....to replace it with ?????
People are underestimating the convention I think.....Trump still needs to focus on getting delegate count for the win....and there’s a reason Cruz suspended when he did. This still gives “time” for whatever we don’t know yet mmay very well take place.
Trumps on his own now.....how and what he will do or say is ????? either way he stands alone without any competition in full view of the audience. It will get interesting.....
