Donald Trump had a tepid response when asked if he would consider GOP presidential rival Ted Cruz for the Supreme Court, should the businessman win the White House.
"I don't know, I'd have to think about it," Trump told the Daily Mail in an interview Monday.
"There's a whole question of uniting and there's a whole question as to temperament," Trump continued. "He's certainly a smart guy, but there's also a temperament issue.
"He's got a tough temperament for what we're talking about," Trump said. "You have to be a very, very smart, rational person, in my opinion, to be a justice of any kind."
Trump told The Washington Post that he plans to announce upward of a dozen judges from which he'd pick to fill Supreme Court vacancies.
Cruz, a former Texas solicitor general, has been mentioned by Republicans as a potential replacement to fill the vacant seat previously held by the late Justice Antonin Scalia.
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Monday described such a scenario as scary.
For his part, Cruz insisted in March that he was more focused on nominating justices to the court than becoming one.
Trump made his comments to the Mail as he and Cruz battle in Indiana heading into Tuesday's primary in the Hoosier State, a key opportunity to pick up more of the delegates needed to secure the nomination.

Constitutionalist as it relates to the natural born citizen part?
How can a Constitutionalist vote for the destruction of American Sovereignty?
How can a Constitutionalist vote AGAINST the duties assigned to the Senate by the Constitution?
How can a Constitutionalist claim to be a natural born citizen of the United States when he KNOWS he is a citizen of Canada?
How can a Constitutionalist support GLOBALISM?
That’s just for starters.....................
Ted Cruz is the reason we are stuck with Obamacare. He hand picked his pal Roberts acting as solicitor general under Bush.....and he still claims to be an ‘outsider’...
How anyone can’t see through Ted’s preachy, condescending self righteous speech is beyond me!
Cruz is unsuitable for the Supreme Court, POTUS and quite possibly the Senate at this point. I think he’s losing his grip on reality.
A Justice Cruz would be for sale. He would join a long, long line of Republican appointees who gained a Strange New Respect by Growing in Office.
Boehner is the one who said he was a golf and texting buddy, not Trump. However, Ted did side with the GOPe.
So, you support partial birth abortion?
Obama has ADD. 99% of USSC cases are dry as dust. Obama would quit after six weeks.
Ted’s not GOPe. Neither am I. At this point, everyone should be striving for unity, yet I don’t see it happening here.
We agree! NEVER AGAIN!
Roy Moore for Scotus
Cruz is, like Soetoro, an ILLEGAL ALIEN. Both should be in prison for usurping the office of US Senator. Soetoro also for usurping the Prrsidency.
No, but irrelevant. This is about Cruz’s judgement...or lack thereof as exemplified by this campaign.
Let’s start with Ted and his campaign.
Why?
Yes. That’s exactly what I mean. I support and endorse unethical behavior.
Sheesh....
I can say the same thing about Trump, so what’s the point?
I didn’t say you were GOPe. I said Ted was, and you saying he’s not offers no proof he isn’t. However, look at the campaign, his tactics and who he has on board and tell me he’s not GOPe. Ok, I’ll grant you that he’s only GOPe insofar as it helps him. He’s calculating like that.
With all due respect, not sure why you keep posting these comments. What is the problem?
If Trump is the GOP nominee, he is well within his purview to state supreme court candidates.
He is not God...Any Supreme Court Candidate would need to be vetted and approved by Senate.
Pressure can bring out the best or worst in people. That is one reason I like to let things play out a bit before I choose someone to support. In the beginning Cruz was on my short list, so was Ben Carson, and Trump.
Cruz has not handled the pressure of the campaign well to say the least, he is losing it. Truly losing it in my opinion and I would not support him for any important position after what I have seen during this campaign.
