Trump: 'I'd have to think about' Cruz for Supreme Court
The Hill ^ | 5/2/2016 | Jesse Byrnes

Donald Trump had a tepid response when asked if he would consider GOP presidential rival Ted Cruz for the Supreme Court, should the businessman win the White House.

"I don't know, I'd have to think about it," Trump told the Daily Mail in an interview Monday.

"There's a whole question of uniting and there's a whole question as to temperament," Trump continued. "He's certainly a smart guy, but there's also a temperament issue.

"He's got a tough temperament for what we're talking about," Trump said. "You have to be a very, very smart, rational person, in my opinion, to be a justice of any kind."

Trump told The Washington Post that he plans to announce upward of a dozen judges from which he'd pick to fill Supreme Court vacancies.

Cruz, a former Texas solicitor general, has been mentioned by Republicans as a potential replacement to fill the vacant seat previously held by the late Justice Antonin Scalia.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Monday described such a scenario as scary.

For his part, Cruz insisted in March that he was more focused on nominating justices to the court than becoming one.

Trump made his comments to the Mail as he and Cruz battle in Indiana heading into Tuesday's primary in the Hoosier State, a key opportunity to pick up more of the delegates needed to secure the nomination.

Not impossible for me to hold the two thoughts.

“Trump’s sister is a million times more conservative then Cruz. Cruz is worse than a liberal. Liberals are jealous at how natural Cruz lies.”

Okaaaay...not really true, but you get an A+ for passion.

Exactly and we keep seeing and hearing that on a daily basis.

He was interviewed to today and asked if he would support Trump f he was the nominee.

Cruz's hysterical reply was a snarling :'I'M GOING TO BEAT HIM, I'M GOING TO WIN, WE WILL HAVE A CONTESTED CONVENTION AND I'LL WIN....." ! I was waiting to heart the AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGG at the end.

Cruz is now out of his mind.

First of all, mouse, I know that Hillary is unacceptable. I will support the Republican nominee.
So, you want me to opus out? Do you think that eliminating all dissent is going to unify the party?
The corrupt establishment i.e. John Boehner types (a golfing
and texting buddy of Trump) are a problem, yet you insist that Cruz is GOPe?
The name calling and demonization of both Trump and Cruz needs to stop. Yet some persist, and this forum is especially bad.
So, it is your position that I should be zotted to bring some sort of unity?

I have serious doubts that he is even a US citizen.

Can a foreigner be a U.S. Supreme Court Justice? We’ve had foreign US Senators....

DJT has indicated Cruz would not be suitable for the Court due to his temperament.

Exactly!! I had a lot of respect for Ted Cruz at the beginning because of his reputation as a smart lawyer. But now no way!

“He needs a style coach.”

Why?

He’s winning at a pace and strength like few of us have ever witnessed. When you’re succeeding like Trump is, you don’t change a bloody thing.

Business 101.

I agree. He seems to have a particular affinity for Patton’s genius.
He is by far the most accomplished and the most viable presidential candidate. And to add the icing on the cake, I believe he is a true patriot, from the heart.

After thinking about Sen. Cruz for a moment, I think the best thing for him to to retire to a small rural town and open say a tire shop. He should run and manage that shop for say ten of fifteen years and get to know people and act human. After that, maybe run for congress as a local congressman and start rehabilitating himself. He needs dirt under his nails and grease on his shirt...after some years of that, then come back and talk to us.

I would say no too but Trump is no fool. He has to leave the SCOTUS dangling carrot out there to keep Cruz supporters hopeful.

Another thing I notice, he is responsive to the question. When he is going to give an answer that he thinks will be "unpopular," he still answers. When he doesn't want to answer, he says so. Other politicians just answer whatever they feel like answering, often not the question asked.

There is a selection of old Trump interviews floating around. He's asked would he run for president, oh, 20 years ago? He gave a good, serious answer. Didn't want to, not interested, hoped the right sort of person would emerge and take the job, but he wouldn't rule out running. It was a gotcha question, but funny thing about answering substantively and honestly.

-- He will make an excellent president. --

I think so too, but there is no way to know. The world is a big place, forces of evil are very powerful, and he will have his hands and mind quite full. I hope he puts more faith and trust in God than he lets on, or grows into that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not offput by his expressed attitude toward religion in his life - I just think the job will end up being more of a handful than he can handle, without help and guidance from God.

Yup. Trump mentioned temperament and “rational.” Cruz is neither. He’s a psychotic. The only robe he should wear is a monk’s sack-cloth.

I already have.

No fricken way!

The guy can’t get First Amendment rights. He hasn’t a clue about states rights. He doesn’t grasp Article IV, Section 4.

He thought Roberts was a great prospect.

What more do we need to know?

I was once a "hired gun" or "hatchet man" as you put it.

This is a brutal and thankless task. I couldn't do it for long... my company contracted me out to handle the task for someone else.

I was very, very good at it. It requires a certain temperament - cold and businesslike. I couldn't have made a career out of it, but Ted probably could.
