A little while back we told you about how the CEO of Hardees/Carl’s Jr. was thinking about replacing employees with machines thanks to the ridiculous minimum wage hike to $15.
Well, it appears he has done it.
It was only a matter of time before this started to happen and you can expect to see more of this in the future.
The law of “Unintended Consequences” strikes again!
They have a special spit protocol for every 10th customer. :>)
....and you will actually get what you ordered. Oh wait, a worker has to bag them. Sorry, I lost my head for a minute.
Agree, I get tired of people that don’t speak English messing up my order.
If each machine costs a year’s wage for one worker, then a typical place that is open 16-20 hours per day would be saving money after 5 or 6 months. For a 24 hour operation, 4 months.
Very cost effective, and no more no-shows without calling in.
They’ve been doing this at Sheetz and Wawa for years. They cut down on the number of people employed and they speed up service.
One would think, but it doesn’t work that way. It will have to be built sturdy to handle thousands of people, some of whom are really dumb.
Not to mention not having to put up with the...
Huff! (Rolls eyes) Yo Order...
Yes, I'll have a Chicken Sandwich, small Fries and a Coke...
Dat was a burger, large fries and a Sprite. NEXT!
No, it was a...
I SAID NEXT!
Is that a conveyor belt burger?
The break-even point for burger bots is $10/hr. Anything more than that and the bot is cheaper in the long run.
Needless to say, there’s a lot of robotics companies who will be laughing all the way to the bank now.
These machines are a pain to use. I tried one at Wawa. Put together my whole order but inexplicably it was cancelled while I was asking a question to an employee. So my choice was either to redo the whole order or walk. I walked.
There are automated systems that will actually load everything in the bag and roll it out to the counter.
Applebee’s and Chili’s have had those self-order machines at their table for a couple of years now. And the minimum wage out here is still what it has been.
The explanation: Took too long to enter something, so the machine reset the process as it could only assume you changed your mind about ordering and wandered off. Try it with an ATM and you’ll get the same thing. Most have a 15-30 second timeout.
The problem isn’t the *machine* here. :P
A fully automated restaurant is going to be pretty soulless, no human interaction. I guess that would be better than bad human interaction, but I’d be a little bothered to be the only person, at all, in a restaurant. Probably get it to go.
Call me crazy but I like dealing with people.
I think that’s probably a time-out problem. Did you let them know about it? That’s how they learn to adjust things like that. It’s how they learn. Much easier I’d think that with an illegal who’ll never assimilate and learn English.
Where will I go to get my Surly Fries?
I was in Applebee’s last week and they did have a machine on the table. Since a waiter came over, I assumed it was some kind of game thing.
