Donald Trump has gotten a lot of attention over the past 12 hours for referring to the Sept. 11 terror attacks as "7/11" during a speech in Buffalo. It's an awkward, amusing slip-up -- but it's just a slip-up.
More interesting, perhaps, is something he said shortly afterward.
Trump was talking about "New York values" -- a means of dismissing Ted Cruz in Trump's home state. As he did during the debate where Cruz first made the point, Trump was using the attacks as a way of espousing what it is that New Yorkers stand for. Unusually for him, he was reading from a sheet of paper.
Then he offered this aside.

No kidding. God bless Donald trump.
Home more than likely, like the other 290 million of us.
Why weren’t we all there to help clean up? I feel so ashamed.
Its not like all air travel was shut down.
Obviously, Cruz should have hitchhiked to NY to do a photo op at Ground Zero, because that wouldn’t have been a cynical political ploy or anything like that.
I helped by staying out of the way.
I also stood in line to give blood on 9/11 (along with several million other people who wanted to do something), but tragically there was no one that needed it.
TPP will balloon that deficit , bring immigrants and destroy industry in the USA.
$365,694,500,000: U.S. Merchandise Trade Deficit With China Hit Record in 2015
Why is only Trump mentioning China and the wall to block the illegals’ invasion of the USA?
p.s. DT at GZ reminds me of HC in Bosnia.
When did reporters stop researching and finding the facts BEFORE they write the article?
I can picture the sadness in his eyes that day.
Don’t be ridiculous, people came from all over the country to help.
Another BS hit piece by the Post and reposted here by the Cruz Crazies. Trump didn’t say he cleared rubble. I watched the rally and didn’t interpret it that way at all. He made reference to the fact that he was down there helping which could be anything. He didn’t say “I cleared rubble, I cleaned up, I put on a mask and worked”. He simply said he was there helping. Honestly, the Cruz Crew around here is beyond desperate. Where the hell was Ted in 2001? Probably in Washington, living off of tax payers.
Yeah, millions of them. It’s obvious that Ted Canadian didn’t go because he hates America.
Some people helped, others stayed in Washingtonian covering up for the Saudis. I have no idea which Cruz was.
Even Hollywood actors helped out:
http://www.snopes.com/rumors/buscemi.asp
>For four years, Buscemi served on one of FDNY’s busiest, Engine Co. 55 in Manhattan's Little Italy. He later left the fire service to become a successful actor, writer and director.
>After 9/11/2001... Brother Buscemi returned to FDNY Engine 55.
>On September 12, 2001 and for several days following Brother Steve worked 12-hour shifts alongside other firefighters digging and sifting through the rubble from the World Trade Center looking for survivors.
>Very few photographs and no interviews exist because he declined them. He wasn't there for the publicity.
>In 2003 he also gave a speech at a union rally supporting higher wages for firefighters and to stop fire houses from closing. He got arrested along with other firefighters.
Not in NY. what did Trump pick up more votes??
You POS. Trump should get his ass back in the DEM party
That’s terrific.
One almost envisions a study of psychology growing up around the delusions of the Cruz victims.
Ted loses by a landslide, then describes it as a bit win. His followers echo his version of events.
Ted is mathematically eliminated from getting the 1237 delegates before the convention, but they think he’s winning.
Ted cant win primaries (well almost) in his own party, but thinks he can win general elections when he has to face members of another party too. His followers nod their heads up and down in agreement, with big glazed look smiles.
Ted has to join with the GOPe/RNC to win highly controlled caucuses. His followers who used to act like they hated the GOPe/RNC are thrilled.
Suddenly fair and open elections are described as highly suspect ways to pick a nominee.
At the same time, closed caucuses where Ted gets 100% of the delegates are described as more wholesome ways to pick a nominee.
Charges against Ted with very detailed evidence or substantive materials, are dismissed, and candidates and their supporters are attacked even though they didn’t have anything to do with the charges.
