Captain obvious here again, but NeverTrump/NeverCruz is not the way. We all have our favorites, but don't lose sight of the mission.
The mission on FR is to secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our POSTERITY!!
It's a lot bigger than you or me or our personal opinions or egos. It's about the very survival of our nation and the promise of freedom for future generations.
Reagan said that freedom is never more than one generation from extinction and he was 100% correct.
President Clinton or President Sanders means the end of freedom in America.
Do not let freedom expire on our watch!!
Free Republic will support our Republican nominee whoever he is against the godless Marxist/socialist Democrats in November!!
Do you also have a bridge for sale?
Those are two fairly dumb statements.
That’s fine, you’re entitled to your opinion. If Cruz was pro-illegal immigration, he would have voted for the Gang of 8 bill.
I guess you haven’t seen the NY and rest of the NE polls.
His senate seat.
I’m just curious. What caused you to change your mind about Cruz?
I am with you on that, I don’t think immigration would even have been allowed to be an issue if Trump hadn’t have brought it up and got such a positive response to his promise to deal with it.
Am I 100% sure Trump will keep that promise if elected? No, but I am far more sure that Cruz won’t mess with the status quo.
I am convinced Cruz promised as much to the Mormons and GOPe to get Romney support to win Utah. I have Mormon family members and Mormon friends and know the LDS leadership would not have supported him if they thought he would change anything about illegal immigration, other than to help it along.
Ryan couldn't even deliver his home district.
Your lies are blatant.
And there’s no point coming back with a condescending post to me. But you will anyway, because you are arrogant.
He said: “Because he has no path to winning honorably via we the voters.”
Because Cruz has broken no rules in gaining delegates, he has not acted dishonorably in that endeavor. Therefore, Jim must be talking about a contested convention and the presumed deal-making there.
Yes, he won that as a Dixiecrat one time, and whatshername from Alaska won as an independent last time, after she got primaried (another example of the GOPe working against the voters—they let her back into her seniority.) But I thought we were talking about a presidential election.
I have NEVER voted for democrat and I’ve NEVER sat out a presidential election so if I’m alive, I’ll be voting for the GOP nominee because the demonic-rat is unthinkable.
If I’m dead, I won’t be responsible for my vote.
Period.
He was not willing to clearly state his thoughts/plan on dealing with illegal immigration in the beginning of this campaign, even though he has made statements in the past that it needs to be dealt with. When Romney gave him his support and LDS leadership made sure he won Utah I knew he would do nothing about illegal immigration. LDS/Utah supports open borders and illegal immigration, as well as welcoming Muslim refugees with open arms. If Romney/LDS had believed there was a chance Cruz would upset the immigration policy we have now Cruz would not have won Utah.
There are other things that I have not agreed with but illegal immigration is the deal breaker for me.
“Mr. Cruz, in his zeal to win at any cost, is irretrievably losing good will thatll be almost impossible, if not impossible to win back, should he succeed at the convention.”
His unethical methods might be acceptable to democrat voters, but conservatives expect more from their candidate. Especially when he claims to be the most conservative, most Christian candidate ever.
I'd agree that there is no sport that makes a perfect analogy for my point; but, then there is no sport that makes a perfect analogy for your point... although, perhaps a sport other than a ball game might might be better.
Although imperfect, consider a baseball game. For argument sake, say the Trump Bombers are winning 8 to 5 against the Cruz Constitutionalists (or 800 to 500, converting runs to delegates). At the bottom of the ninth, the team with the most runs is the winner; of course, the analogy is most imperfect here, as there is no winner unless one of the teams has 13 runs. There is nothing wrong with Team Cruz rallying in the 9th to tie, and winning it in the 10th or 11'th inning.
Oh, and btw, I see team Trump and team Cruz in the same league. In the National Series, I'm still rooting for the American League against the 'Rat League, regardless of whether its the Trump Bombers or Cruz Constitutionalists representing the American League.
I understand your skepticism but it is overdone.
That much skepticism would mean we are resigned to romney being the nominee.
I choose optimism .
You really don’t see it? I’ve explained it clearly. However, if I explain it more clearly, you might want to ban me, so I am not going there.
“If Im dead, I wont be responsible for my vote.”
I guess we can only hope you don’t live in Chicago :)
“Am I 100% sure Trump will keep that promise if elected? No, but I am far more sure that Cruz wont mess with the status quo.”
I think Trump will follow through. In his books, he talks a lit about having to follow through on what you promise or people won’t believe you a second time. And he’ll have the entire nation watching.
