Donald Trump still leads the Republican presidential race, but Ted Cruz continues to beat him at a trickier game: securing convention delegates in states that dont hold caucuses or primaries.

If you haven’t already, watch the CNN interview with Paul Manafort. He said, with an extreme amount of confidence and certitude, that this isn’t going to a 2nd ballot. A few days later Michigan happened, where Trump delegates teamed with Kasich delegates to shut out Cruz delegates. I hear rumblings, unofficially, that Trump’s people have also struck a deal with Rubio delegates in key states.
Manafort also stated, after the Cruz camp was crowing about winning all the delegates in ND, that that wasn’t true. I think some of the “we got all the delegates” crowing from the Cruz camp is psyops. They did get them in CO, but a lot of the delegates they’re counting on from elsewhere are either unbound or bound to Trump on the first ballot.
Trump will have most or all of the bound delegates he needs. Manafort will only need to pull a few unbound delegates to ensure that this never gets to a second ballot.
I do think that Trump was caught flatfooted to an extent, but he’s catching up real quick.
I hope you’re right.
You read so much from both sides that it gets confusing.
Hard to believe Trump would be caught completely off guard.
...that’s so Donald and all his leftist voters could understand.
It fits the media’s current narrative to imply that Trump is completely befuddled, doesn’t know what he’s doing, etc.
They and the GOPe know that Trump has some of his best states coming up, so they’re doing anything they can to talk him down right now.
Just keep reminding yourself that Trump will need few, if any, unbound delegates to vote for him on the first ballot. Such a small number of delegates is eminently gettable, and most likely have already been lined up.
And if there’s no second ballot, all of the Cruz machinations will have been for naught.
I’ve been reading all over social media today & late last night, the same comment from dozens of people.
It’s very clear they were provided with a few talking points, or answers because they’re repeating them verbatim.
“Trump’s losing delegates because he doesn’t ‘understand’ how the system works. They can’t help it if he (or supporters) are ‘stupid’.”
Obviously scripted.
Ted “Tricky Dick” Cruz
A ground game is not the insider game
no such thing as a ground game
it is an insider’s game that is all it is
The media likes to confuse us and call this a ground game, it isn’t. If they called it what it really is, an insider’s game. It would make Cruz look bad, so they are not going to do that.
whatever you want to call it, it exists. Fair or not.
So Trump needed to hire this new guy and get involved.
The world ain’t all sunshine and roses. If it’s a dirty fight, then fight dirty or lose
Wishful thinking. Cruz will be mathematically eliminated after he fails to get 49 more delegates which will happen on April 19th.
And if Trump did the same thing you'd be telling us how freaking smart he was to do it.
That is why he hired the new guy, he needed an insider to fight the insider game.
Hard to do that when you, yourself is an outsider to the establishment
And the establishment isn’t going to go down with out a fight
Trump will do fine, plenty of delegates out there for him to obtain. Trump wants to win on the first ballot, he does that, Cruz’s shenanigans would be for nothing.
What are you smoking? Trump is the poster boy for arrogance. I never thought I’d see a bigger egomaniac than Obama, but Trump make Obama look like an amateur.
Cruz uses trickery to win delegates...and he and his supporters are proud of tricky ways used to pilfer the votes from the will of the people...people who stood in line for hours....
And if Trump did the same thing you’d be telling us how freaking smart he was to do it.
Fact remains:
Cruz uses trickery to win delegates...and he and his supporters are proud of tricky ways used to pilfer the votes from the will of the people...people who stood in line for hours....Cruz is disenfranchising voters’ will, and I think it stinks to high heaven.
As I stated, congress can engage in insider trading—it may not be illegal, but it is wrong.
The sad part to me is that he is obviously not the outsider everyone thought he was. Sheesh.
Now about your lame comment:
1. You don’t tell me what I would be telling us...You don’t know me.
2. Trump is not and would not do the same thing, so your “he’s doing it (even tho he’s not) response” is moot.
Cruz wins TRICKIER delegate contests....
Title says it all.
Cruz uses trickery to win delegates...and he and his supporters are proud of tricky ways used to pilfer the votes from the will of the people...people who stood in line for hours....
Sort of reminds me of the insider trading permitted by congresscritters...they get to legally trade on insider information...legal and very lucrative but shameful and immoral....
And Trump says he’s a “Christian”, holds up the Bible and says “...2 Corinthians...”. Some Bible scholar he is.

Yes, it is obvious. What is also obvious is that Teddy is not the Christian outsider that they think he is....
To me it is very upsetting as people in some states stood in line for hours...literally. To then have a team of political operatives go in and pilfer the delegates is outrageous to me.
Trump is the only one running out of love for country. Trump doesn’t need this. He is doing it out of the kindness of his heart. If you think trump hasn’t already marked his place in history you are wrong. He’d be remembered for centuries after death. Cruz and Kasick are doing this run because senators and governors are a footnote in history. Cruz especially is only running to be remembered after death. We don’t need someone like that.
This is called ground game, folks. Its well within the established rule sets every candidate knows or should know. Trumps inability to understand those rules is his failure alone.
I have heard the term “ground game” used for months...
Silly me, I always thought it was about convincing people to vote for your candidate...earning their votes...going door to door, doing literature drops, putting up signs, etc.
Now I understand, “ground game” is about subverting the will of the voters....in essence taking votes others received—not trying to earn the votes of voters.
Well, the dems are good at “ground game” too—so if by some long shot teddy gets the nod, I will look forward to your full support of their actions.
Thank you for the ping and link.
These people took their time, traveled, spent their gas to travel too and from their primary polling station. They stood in line, braved the weather and participated in the process.
Now some Washington insider snake oil salesman, wants to nullify their personal choice, to install HIMSELF as the party nominee.
The analogy is used that we have electoral votes in general elections, and these delegates are comparable.
That’s not true.
We have the electoral votes to allow smaller states to feel adequate representation in the federal government selection and process.
There is no one be protected by the delegates, if not for the voters in the primaries. They are merely the manifestation of the expressed will of the populace who stood up and tried to be counted.
Their will is sacrosanct.
Ted has placed self interest ahead of the populace he thinks he is destined to lead.
What a miserable little man...
