He's disparaged his own Republican leader as a liar and dismissed fellow senators as part of the "Washington cartel." But now, with his presidential prospects hanging in the balance, Ted Cruz is moving closer than ever to the D.C. establishment.
Directly and through surrogates, the Texas senator is aggressively reaching out to his Senate colleagues as he prepares for the possibility of a convention floor fight against Donald Trump. And Cruzs emissaries on Capitol Hill are now signaling to senior Republicans that Cruz would be willing to work with them as the GOP nominee in a way Trump would not.
So far, Cruz can tout only two Senate endorsements, from conservative Mike Lee and the deal-making centrist Lindsey Graham. But Senate Republicans are now at least listening to an intensified pitch from Cruz and his allies: That hes a far more stable choice for the top of the ticket and for the GOP's hopes of keeping the Senate.

Cozy up to him to knock out Trump and when it gets to the convention they will insert the insider.
I remember many months ago, Conservatives on here were debating on where establishment would end up. All the Cruz supporters seem to think they will end up with Trump because he’s no Conservative. They’re wrong. the GOPe hate Trump more than they hate Cruz because he’s the only one that will upset the status quo
Exactly! Cruz is a strong Constitutional Conservative who will not compromise his principles.
Cozying up? Receiving reluctant endorsements from the RINOs is not ‘cozying up’. Trump has plenty of establishment endorsements himself, and I certainly wouldn’t say something asinine like he is part of the establishment.
That statement is disingenuous, at best! Reagan had Bush foisted upon him by the party and then he did his level best to keep the sniveling liar at arms length for 8 years. Cruz willingly jumped into the snake pit with those vipers and publicly kissed their asses for the privilege.
we already knew this after FL and after he hired Bush with the backing of Romney.
...
Yep. That’s when he lost me.
If your enemy gives you rope with which to hang them, accept it.
Yep.
Personally, I think it's funny to watch, after all the nasty stuff the elites in Washington have said about Cruz's conservative stance over the years.
lost me the day when he shook hands with Rubio and became partners with him acting like a child thinking he was running the debate by asking questions that day.
The establishment elite have been choosing our candidates for a while. The voter, not so much.
Wrong.
Politico. Katie Glueck. Burgess Everett.
Uh....No....The writer lies.
The GOPe has belatedly decided to support Cruz.
Cruz did nothing to seek their support.
He’s still the most hated man in the Senate and that isn’t exactly “cozying up to them”.
“Otherwise known as uniting the party? “
No. That is called a pathetic attempt at spin.
Donald Trump the only outside candidate now. Cruz made a deal with the devil.
Cruz is playing the role of the turd in the punch bowl, deluding the gullible to join the evil in the destruction of America.
We can officially start calling him a RINO. lol
????
Like that makes any sense.
Yep, we only win in November if both sides come together. We’re only 90-days out from the convention. Got to happen at some point here. Between Trump and Cruz, the GOPe is not happy, period. But they’ll have to adjust. At the same time, we’ll have to adjust to working as a team going forward into November.
The title of article says it all but then we all knew that Cruz is the only true conservative and is doing what needs to
be done to win. However some fools think he’s establishment
and would rather cut off their nose to spite their face than
have to admit it. Pathetic.
Politico knows how to play the fools.
