Pat Buchanan Joins Trump – Cruz Convention Unity Movement (Brilliant - Retain Rule 40 Movement!)
Conservative HQ ^ | 5 Apr 16 | George Raisley

Posted on 04/05/2016 7:36:02 AM PDT by xzins

While we disagree with Mr. Buchanan on which candidate is the best standard bearer for the conservative movement there is one thing we do agree on – passionately.

No matter who gets the Republican nomination, the establishment must lose.

In a recent column “Lock Out The Establishment In Cleveland!” Pat Buchanan echoed the conclusions of our four-part series on what conservatives should do if Trump wins the nomination:

As Buchanan explained, to accomplish that goal, “All Trump and Cruz need do is instruct their delegates to vote to retain Rule 40 from the 2012 convention. Rule 40 declares that no candidate can be placed in nomination who has failed to win a majority of the delegates in eight states.”

Trump has already hit that mark. Cruz almost surely will. But no establishment favorite has a chance of reaching it.

With Cruz and Trump delegates voting to retain Rule 40, they can guarantee no Beltway favorite walks out of Cleveland as the nominee — and that Ted Cruz or Donald Trump does.

As Pat Buchanan said, “No matter who wins in Cleveland, the establishment must lose.” We urge Trump and Cruz delegates across the country to do what their compatriots in Tennessee and a few other states have started to do; get together and form an informal alliance that commits them to voting for Cruz or Trump – and only Cruz or Trump.

Republicans are such cowards they won’t even abandon their party YEARS after it has abandoned them.

I was at a local GOP gathering the other night and was swarmed with people who wanted me to sign petitions. When I told them I had switched parties, they all approved heartily, but did they do it? Of course not. They did even say they would. Their motto should be Let’s You and Him Fight.

Mass defections would have prevented what we are seeing now: a determination to disenfranchise their own members.

And by the way, they have already done this once or twice: voted for the very opposite of the positions they ran on.

I guess not enough people pay attention to Congress. They had to move it into the presidential and erase the primaries.

Anybody else catch on besides me? What more proof do you need? It’s the party of evil dressed in the Halloween costume of the Constitution and the Flag.

If today Trump offered Cruz the 1-term deal, and Cruz rejected it, Trump instantly wins the “Olive Branch” award.

I see the offer as a win-win for DT, regardless of it being accepted.

Rule 40 does not favor Trump since Cruz is working with the GOPe, trying to install his own delegates as shadow Trump delegates (Arizona for example). Were Cruz an honest candidate willing to win or lose with the voters I would agree with the premise.
Trump needs to make an alliance with a candidate that will help him get the necessary 1237 and win in the general. Kasich seems a likely ally in that regard. He helps with women; he helps with Ohio; he helps with Congress.

My understanding is that candidates cannot keep their delegates after the first ballot and that they aren’t permitted to trade them at all.

Many, many people are continuing to insist that Cruz is hated by the establishment, and that they will attempt to replace him with an establishment guy.

Too many are saying that if Trump doesn’t win it on the first ballot, then he won’t win it at all.

So, the only protection these two have is rule 40.

What I meant is that Cruz has not been able to install his shadow delegates as Kasich delegates; they would more likely favor Trump over Cruz if they saw Kasich as the VP. Cruz is trying to override the will of the voters with religious affiliation.

Excellent. Short, sweet, and to the point. GOPe will kick Cruz to the curb in a NEW YORK minute once he’s helped them diminish Trump’s votes.

I fully expect that YEB! will be “our” nominee.

“You cannot make people vote how you want them to vote.”

But you can booger up the voting processes at the precinct level to steal an election. Cruz made all of his staff read Plouffe’s strategy for Hussein’s election, and he’s following Obama’s playbook.

I can't believe Buchanan would support Cruz. Doesn't he prefer Obama or Sanders to anyone who supports Israel?

Buchanan literally believes that if Israel did not exist the world would be a utopia.

Cruz. Hillary. Same end result.

No.

“If Trump isn’t selected, I’m not voting.”

If Trump runs on some third-party ticket, I’ll vote there. If not, I would vote Libertarian. I don’t consider myself Republican any more, anyhow.

Lots and lots of us will.

That said, I want Trump to win, and any dishonesty will have me supporting him in a 3rd party run.

Jumping forward a reply or two, a complaint does not equal an “investigation”. I’m curious what law the group indicates was broken.

Agreed, 1000!

If they retain this rule, then only Trump or Cruz can win...and that is EXSACLTLY as it should be.

IMHO, if Trump gets over 50% in NY, then the mathematical chance for Cruz is reduced to almost zero.

I still believe that Cruz should throw in with Trump as soon as he has no mathematical chance. If he does, the party will be united, the GOPe will be demolished, and we could have an absolute winning team in November.

Cruz can make that happen.

I’m with you. There’s a whole lot of healing to be done, but after a football game, the players can be friends again.

That’s just the way it works in the USA. One moment you’re hunting their heads, the next moment your having a beer together. (depending on your denomination, of course. :>)

I’d lose all respect for Cruz if he took Trump as VP. America needs leadership.

I have all or most of Patrick J. Buchanan's books, and all of his positions for 30+ years are diametrically opposed to those of Cruz---both Ted and Heidi---but I guess PJB graciously takes Cruz at his word---and not at his actions over the course of Cruz's years in the Bush White House and in the Senate supporting amnesty, TPA, TPP, resettlement of muslims, Ominbus budget-busting spending, etc.

Cruz should grasp Buchanan's kind words. Buchanan is for real, honest and a great patriot, standing for American sovereignty and diametrically opposed to all forms of GLOBALISM.

I encourage you to go back and just pick out any PJB book, to start with. They can be purchased used, in good condition, on Amazon.com for .01 cent plus $3.99 shipping. And pass the book along to your children and grandchildren to counteract with the truth all of the lies and revisionism now taught as "American History." (recent example: Andrew Jackson. Harriet Tubman.)
