‘Fair Trade’: Ted Cruz Rejects GOP Orthodoxy, Joins Jeff Sessions Populist Revolt
Breitbart ^ | 3/31/2016 | Michelle Moons

Posted on 03/31/2016 5:11:07 PM PDT by lodi90

Presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz pledges to “stand up for fair trade” in a new state-wide Wisconsin ad hitting on international trade deals, a signature issue of frontrunner Donald Trump’s campaign.

“Free trade” is generally seen as a globalist policy in which restrictions on imports and exports are kept to an absolute minimum. “Fair traders,” on the other hand, argue that purely free trade can have negative consequences for the citizens of a particular country, especially when it comes to wages and employment opportunities for the lower and middle classes. They recommend that sovereign nations negotiate and implement trade deals that prioritize their own people first. This debate has been a centerpiece of the 2016 primary season as both political parties have seen populist factions revolt against their respective establishments over what they view as unfair free trade deals.

Cruz, speaking directly to the camera, says:

Wisconsin is a beautiful place where the people place solutions over slogans.

Our campaign is for the working moms, the truck drivers, the mechanics, and the machinists with calluses on their hands. It’s for the farmers and factory workers and the families who worry about prices going up while paychecks stay flat. It’s for the young people coming out of school unable to find a job.

I’m going to stand up for fair trade, and bring our jobs back from China.

We will see wages going up. We’ll see opportunity again.

We’ll see a President who will stand with the people of Wisconsin, and Americans everywhere.

This is a significant change in policy and rhetoric for Cruz away from Republican party’s limitless trade orthodoxy.

I was fooled by Cruz until his limp-wristed condemnation of the fascists in Chicago and my jaw hit the floor. I am embarrassed to have contributed to his campaign.

#20 Dream on. Donnie has imploded in Wisconsin. He has left the state where last week he said he would campaign there every day until the primary. So his advisors could give him a coloring book to identify Countries and keep him away from the cameras while his minions do damage control.

Believe what you want but that is what IS happening on the ground AND being reported on most all news outlets!
Polls released yesterday show him down 10 and the gap growing before he stepped on his johnson.

Corey was out in the press admitting today Trump was lying about any Cruz link to the Melaina picture B.S.

Not a good week for Donnie. Matter of Fact Fox reported tonight it was Trumps worst week of the campaign

Whoa. Talk about blatant pandering and stealing Trump’s ideas.

First people say, "He's gotta change his position if he wants my support." Then it's "He's stealing ideas." Heck a lot of what Trump has been saying was said by Pat Buchanan 20 years ago. Good ideas should be "stolen" and spread. (See my tag line)

Cruz' default position has always been the Milton Friedman free trade line, not because of Goldman achs, but because he believed the reasoning. Buchanan himself came around on some of this stuff when he ran in '92, and met the guys out of work in Ne Hampshire. Sometimes candidates really learn things on the trail.

TPA Ted Cruz jumps on Superman's cape yet again. LOL.

Yeah. Better late than never, but Trump was leading on this issue at least 5 years ago.

Cruz was for giving Obama carte blanc to negotiate free trade deals just last fall.

TPA Ted is not to be trusted on “free trade” and illegal immigration and legal immigration such as H1B visas. Plus his wife was working for the North American Union. I like it when Ted/Raphael uses his religious huckster voice. Something the real huckster/Mike Huckabee would never dare do

In this week’s Analysis Behind the News video, JBS CEO Art Thompson looks at the wife of Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz. Art addresses Heidi Cruz’s connections with the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and her role in supporting the North American Union. What are Heidi’s connections with the CFR and NAU? #46 5 years ago Donnie was a Democrat before he was a republican and was then an independent before he switched to being Republican.

4 years ago he called Mitts immigration policy mean.

I wonder if Trump has any other popular ideas that Cruz is willing to pretend to agree with until he gets the nomination?
