Presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz pledges to stand up for fair trade in a new state-wide Wisconsin ad hitting on international trade deals, a signature issue of frontrunner Donald Trumps campaign.
Free trade is generally seen as a globalist policy in which restrictions on imports and exports are kept to an absolute minimum. Fair traders, on the other hand, argue that purely free trade can have negative consequences for the citizens of a particular country, especially when it comes to wages and employment opportunities for the lower and middle classes. They recommend that sovereign nations negotiate and implement trade deals that prioritize their own people first. This debate has been a centerpiece of the 2016 primary season as both political parties have seen populist factions revolt against their respective establishments over what they view as unfair free trade deals.
Cruz, speaking directly to the camera, says:
Wisconsin is a beautiful place where the people place solutions over slogans.
Our campaign is for the working moms, the truck drivers, the mechanics, and the machinists with calluses on their hands. Its for the farmers and factory workers and the families who worry about prices going up while paychecks stay flat. Its for the young people coming out of school unable to find a job.
Im going to stand up for fair trade, and bring our jobs back from China.
We will see wages going up. Well see opportunity again.
Well see a President who will stand with the people of Wisconsin, and Americans everywhere.
This is a significant change in policy and rhetoric for Cruz away from Republican partys limitless trade orthodoxy.

No, Trump is a coarse copy of Cruz from 2011.
.
#138 you left out the paid trump ops.
Makes me think of MiaT. She was out there.
.
Almost all of Trump’s positions are Cruz’ positions from 2011.
Just go back and read.
.
“Almost all of Trumps positions are Cruz positions from 2011”
If that’s the case, then Cruz flipped his positions
You werent like that when you supported Duncan Hunter.
Do Trump supporters HAVE to take on Trumps personality?
Like Donald, they would rather name call than be substantive.
.
It was OK for Trump to just rubber-stamp copy Ted Cruz’ plan, but if Ted pushes his own plan, it is stealing from the 69 year old teenager.
Black is the new White, Down in the new UP.
Gotta love it.
.
This is great for Cruz. He has now switched positions to the correct position!! TRUMP/CRUZ ‘16
What a phony.
#129 one thing for sure. Come next Tuesday we will find out
Even Newt is saying tonight Trump is not doinghimself any favors this week.
Also Donnie is now MIA in Wisconsin. There is a reason for that. His internal polling...and the Marquette Poll. Then the abortion rookie mistake as Newt just said on Hannity!
.
>> “BOTH Cruz, and Hunter, have Reagans wisdom and principles.” <<
AMEN!
It is also bankrupt.
You said “He wasn’t”. Your post only makes sense in the context of the thread and the post you were responding to.
In that thread some Cruzer had claimed that Trump was a democrat 5 years ago. I proved he was Republican back to 1980. You said “he wasn’t”.
I think it is funny when you listen to Cruz talk about how little Trump knows about issues that Cruz ends up copying many of his positions. That does not say much for Cruz’s wisdom to me.
.
Trump’s trade talk is taken from Cruz’ 2011 speeches, almost verbatim.
Cruz’ speeches are the scripts for Trump’s campaign.
.
BS. The only thing Lyin’ Ted has learned is to blame Trump for everything, even his own serial cheating, while stealing all of Trump’s ideas.
One problem with “fair” trade is that it is undefined. Simply saying it’s fair is not enough.
I would have to hear specifics from Trump or Cruz. I don’t mean a list of complaints and accusations directed at others.
If I remember right, one argument for the “Fair tax” was that all goods, foreign and domestic, would be taxed. In contrast, the corporate income tax only falls on US manufactured goods. By that logic, we were shooting ourselves in the foot through our tax system. When we are doing something dumb, it is always good to stop.
.
Is that kind of like the 64% that refuse to vote for Trump in every state?
.
#147 Trump is nothing more than a entertainer that learned to feed off people’s fears. I want what he claims he is for but he is an empty suit past the platitudes. The interviews that he keeps stepping on his Johnson prove it.
But if I want to buy a ford truck I don’t go to a Toyota dealer and let them tell me it’s a ford under the hood and trust them.
.
Cruz has been solid all the way since he entered politics.
