Things have gotten way out of control here as of late. You know as well as most of us, that this war must end and end now, or your forum will end up being nothing more than a joke.
I humbly suggest that you not just request, but demand, that everyone step back and take a serious look at the slanderous comments being made by both camps. Debate is one thing, but what is happening is no longer a debate. This forum is on the verge of a civil war. A war that need not happen. For the good of this great forum, I and many I have talked to on both sides of the war admit things have gone too far.
I am a Ted Cruz supporter, yet I call on all my fellow Cruz supporters to put the knives back in the sheaths, as I ask the same of all you Trump supporters.
This civil war of Freeper against Freeper must end, or the result will inevitably be a complete destruction of this once great forum.
I begin by laying down my weapons as a gesture of good will. From hence forth I will not post any comments that are just knee jerk angry remarks that only serve to fuel the fires of hate and animosity.
We all have a common enemy in this fight, the eventual Democrat Presidential Nominee. I suggest we all remember this, because a house divided upon itself cannot stand, nor defeat the enemy.
I also offer this promise to everyone. Should Trump win the nomination, I promise to fight as hard, and as passionate, for him to become POTUS as I will for Cruz.

There was a truce last fall. Lots of us supporting Trump, supported them both on the same ticket.
The Cruz people though expected Trump to be out by Thanksgiving.
It didn’t happen. They decided they needed to come down hard on Trump and his supporters. It has been all downhill since then.
Now they are allied with the Gope.
The problem is not Trump vs Cruz, it is Free Thinkers vs Political Correct purveyors of Orthodoxy. The “movement conservatives”, “true conservatives” are as dedicated to their orthodoxy as “progressives”, “liberals”, “communists”, “facists”, and Muslims.
Since every statement, however incomplete or misreported, is instantly filter against some rigidly held orthodoxy, there is no hope of having a civil discussion about anything outside a particular canon of belief.
As a Free Thinker on FreeRepublic.com, I can only recommend that we continue to make the Politically Correct crowd uncomfortable until they realize that their brains are stuck on stupid. To do otherwise it to give in to the Spanish Inquisition, which no one expects, of course.
I will vote for whoever is nominated. No 3rd party.
I'd say the trouble begins (began) with name calling, both references to entire groups of supporters and back-and-forth between individuals. Many basic and often heated disagreements exist and that won't change during this primary process. But if the disagreements over candidates and policies could take place without the name calling and personal insults, that would be about all anyone could hope for under the circumstances of this election cycle.

How about no innuendo, no slurs that Cruz just sold out to the establishment or that Trump is an insider who made his billions buying the establishment, and no name calling ("Lyin Ted" or whatever the popular slur against Trump is). If there is evidence that Trump is still the big government liberal he admittedly used to be, then post and discuss it. If there is evidence that Cruz is the womanizer that Twitter claims he is, then post it. Otherwise, how about we just discuss why our candidate would be great and why Hillary/Bernie would destroy America and lead at best to a second Civil War?
Note: I prefer Cruz, for reasons I have explained repeatedly without insulting Trump. But I will voting for Trump, for reasons I have explained repeatedly without insulting Cruz. It's not that hard to be civil. I'd like our nominee (most likely Trump) to have all the Cruz voters on his side when this is over (or Cruz to have all the Trump voters on his side if something unexpected happens).
Trump cuddles with Reid, Pelosi, and Schumer. He is running for president in the wrong party, needs to be in the communist Democrat where all his friends and buddies are.

I’d love it if the mods would start zotting people. I’d even accept being zotted for the first time in 17 years if the worst of the Trumpite offenders were also banned. I could name names, but I am certain that the worst offenders are already known to the mods.
I’d even pretend that this is a problem contributed to equally by both sides, even though it isn’t.
What worries me most is that FR is transforming from a conservative, constitutionalist forum to one which is nationalist, nativist, and statist, even if unintentionally.
That would be a profound shame. And it CAN be prevented with resolute action by the moderators.

Cruz was not part of that at that time...
but since then Cruz has aligned himself with that group and that’s where he has to step back from....

I think both sides need to walk themselves back to the point that they were still playing nice.... like I said that was pre Iowa... and then there have to have to jettison any supporters that were vitriolic before that

I do agree that this particular campaign season has been very passionate. On one hand, it is good that Republicans get passionate about something. On the other hand, many Republicans are so anal retentive that getting "out of control" is like a heroin high....they can't handle the rush or the inevitable crash.
Republicans are also the quadrennial loser party. Republicans, many times, manage to snatch defeat from the pit bull jaws of victory. Let's try not to be the whining, take my ball and go home losers this time around? OK?
