All four early appointees to the rules committee for this years Republican National Convention told POLITICO theyre prepared to weaken or scrap a rule that could limit the conventions alternatives to Donald Trump.
The four took issue with a rule, originally imposed by Mitt Romney forces in 2012 to keep rival Ron Paul off the convention stage, requiring a candidate to win a majority of delegates in eight states to be eligible for the partys nomination a threshold only Trump has exceeded so far. If preserved, the rule could block John Kasich or Ted Cruz from competing with Trump at the convention, set for July in Cleveland.

"Currently, delegates are bound to vote on a first ballot according to the results of the contest in their state. But if no nominee is selected, most are free to shift their support on later ballots.
Haugland, however, argues that delegates are elected by fellow Republicans to exercise judgment on the convention floor, and should be free to vote as they please even on the first ballot. He said he intends to persuade the rules committee as well as the convention delegates writ large to enact changes that would allow delegates to vote for any candidate who has earned a delegate in the 2016 voting."
The rules committee is very powerful. They can control who gets the nomination.
The Democrats and the GOP do not want the corruption to ever end. Trumps would try to end it.
If Trump wants to run 3rd party, I’m not even going to mind.
I’ll vote for him. I’m not going to put up with this.
Romney wanted the rule.
Now the GOP/RNC can live and NOMINATE TRUMP with it
OR DIE if the 8 STATE WIN RULE IS ABOLISHED!
they don’t care if we put up with it or not.
I wouldn’t blame trump for running third party and I would vote for him. but Hillary would win.
and that will be the nail in the coffin of the country.
(Maybe)
But Trump will get a lot of supporters.
A lot.
If anyone but Trump is the Republican nominee, Hitlery wins whether he runs third party or not. Though it would be interesting to see whether Trump as an Independent can beat out for second place whatever GOPe stooge is foisted upon us this time.
In any event, since the outcome is already known we may as well vote our conscience.
NY and CA have 295 electoral votes, don’t they?
how can trump not get to 1237, or whatever the number is?
Some speculated that Jeb's campaign strategy was to use that rule to effectively shut out any real competition. There were so many "favorite sons" running that no one but Jeb would get enough states.
Their US Rep is in trouble because of business as usual.
They will pay the price sooner or later, sooner I hope. Worthless bastards!
of course Trump will come in second.
I would guess 45 35 and 25 for the beast, Donald and the GOPe, respectively
but i’m voting for trump. so whatever
I know this sounds awful, but knowing the media and all the elites, Hispanics and lgbt are dong everything to bring trump down makes me beyond angry at America.
I think you are correct. The GOPe would be much happier with a Clinton victory than letting Trump win, so threatening the Republicans with a third party run and subsequent loss is fine by them. They will still be at the table and getting the bennies of being the junior partner in the Washington corruption party.
thanks for eloquently expanding on my statement.
wish I would have written that :)
The people who cast the votes don’t decide an election, the people who count the votes do.
Joseph Stalin and RNCe
Alice in Wanderland lives and thrives in the kookocracy some call a political party for the people.
What this shows is votes don’t matter. Agendas do.
“Haugland has for years insisted that delegates to the national convention cannot be restricted from voting their conscience.”
I have voted for Congressmen and Senators who when asked about a their position on a specific issue stated they would vote their conscience, many of them don’t have a conscience, that’s just an easy way to put off a constituent, they will lie about how difficult the decision was later.
Sadly, I think that nail was driven home in 2008. Even if we win in November...it's just a finger in the dyke, IMHO.
There's no way we can compete with hold the left has on the schools. It's why Bernie the Commie draws tens of thousands to his rallies.
I wish I was wrong
-—If Trump wants to run 3rd party, Im not even going to mind.
Ill vote for him. Im not going to put up with this.

Same, the only reason I am involved this cycle is because of Trump. I will not back any other candidate they push forward.
compete with the media, the school system and a leadership that only cares about power.
that’s some task. we’ve already lost a generation to the insanity of the school system.
and it would take some pain to fix our economy and Americans hate pain.
The GOP doesn’t realize they are dead. If none of the three primary candidates are standing by the pledge to support the party nominee, there is no party loyalty. If the rules are being changed to circumvent the voters as well as the candidates, why have a primary - just go straight to the convention and have a nominating committee. Because of social media, more people than ever are seeing the corruption on display and learning about the tortured, twisted rules of the Republican machine that keeps power away from the voters. All the secrets are coming out.
