America’s Military Is in Much Worse Shape Than You’d Think
Daily Signal ^ | March 25, 2016 | John Sullivan / Justin Johnson

America’s military is dangerously weak and unprepared today, and it’s not getting better. At least that’s what top military leaders told Congress recently. Unfortunately, the testimony of these top generals and admirals did not get the attention it deserved.

For the last 15 years, the United States military has not prepared for conflict with a near peer competitor like Russia or China. General Mark Milley, chief of staff of the Army, shared his worries with Congress, explaining that the Army would be able to handle a serious conflict but “not at a level that is appropriate for what the American people would expect to defend them.”

In other words, because soldiers are not adequately prepared, the U.S. Army would either be late to arrive to a conflict (due to more time for training) or they would send soldiers into harm’s way unprepared.

These are not issues isolated to the Army. The Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Robert Neller, when commenting on the ability to meet requirements in a major conflict, said the Marine Corps “would be able to do that but probably not within a timeframe that current plans call for [them] to arrive to participate in that conflict.”

I thought the recent losses in Iraq and Afghanistan were good indications that our military wasn’t in good shape.

25 years ago I got into a heated argument with a female Captain in the USAF that was flying one of the AWACS. I told her IMO it was folly for the military to do away with the requirement for horsemanship for some officers. She told me that with the modern military that horses were obsolete and we will never need them again. Fast forward to Afghanistan. The terrain and weather was so foul that it made the AWACS useless and the FAC’s and Special Forces had to use horses to negotiate the terrain and direct fire for combat air cover and artillery. The female was arrogant and ignorant and short sighted. This is what is now the upper echelon of our military. I hope we don't get into a war with a well supplied and organized enemy that doesn't cater to the homosexuals and females that weaken a military command.

Not as bad as it was in 1939.

For each of the 3 photos I posted, I’m afraid your fears are correct.

Those ROTC guys were ORDERED to do that, something about sensitizing them to the needs of women, or some such.

The Russians must laugh themselves silly, to sleep, each night.

I remember that story. The men were ordered to wear women's high heel shoes so that they could be "sensitized to what a woman goes through".

I have to wonder. When will they drop women into a combat zone so that they can be sensitized to what a man goes through? Or what about this, what if we kick them out of their homes, make them live in a ratty apartment and pay child support to their husbands?

Corporal Klinger would be a Two-Star General in today’s Army.

Not a peep about this from Cruz or Rubio, both are sitting Senators.

Only Trump has commented on the shape of the military and that he’d do what it takes to support them and set things right.

I know he’s not popular on FR, but Mark Levin devoted a long segment to this topic tonight. It’s unbelievably dangerous what this president has done to our capacity to defend ourselves. He’s a wicked man.

I knew it was bad, but didn’t realize just how serious it is.

I really like Mark Levin. In my opinion he is the smartest man on talk radio. Our country is in great peril I’m afraid, we need a true miracle.

“Can you say,”Benghazi?”

Actually I’m thinking something far worse than that will be the case unless things are turned around quickly.

Can you say “Task Force Smith”?

I see every day what this article is talking about right here in U.S. Army Europe.

Russia doesn’t fear us if we tell them they better not do anything like what they did in the Crimea or Ukraine. They simple smile nod and continue to modernize their arsenal.

They have more combat troops surrounding Ukraine right now than we have left in the whole of Europe.

We spend $800B per yr on our defense.

Why is that not enough?

Why wouldn’t $500B be enough?

Where does the money go? Nobody knows, they just want more, lIke every other unaccountable bureaucracy.

“We spend $800B per yr on our defense”

Ummm you’re off by quite a lot.

The actual DoD budget for FY 2016 $534 billion.

“Where does the money go?”

It goes towards fuel...beans...bullets...training...weapons/equipment modernization...weapons/equipment purchases...salaries...uniforms...costs associated with deployments...maintenance and upkeep of military installations...there’s ultilties that have to be paid for every single installation and building owned or leased by the DoD.

There’s more to that list...but I’m not sure how much you’d want to listen since you make the statement that:

“Nobody knows”

People that are interested...actually DO know where it all goes.

“they just want more,”

What do you think the spending limit should be on providing you and the other 315 million people in the U.S.safety and security?

“lIke every other unaccountable bureaucracy.”

Actually we are one of the few Constitutionally mandated things the Federal Government is suppsoed to do...and they are failing at it.

Look the fact of the matter is we spend a small percentage of the GDP and total U.S. budget yearly on defense.

The left wants it to be less...providing national security costs money. And you get what you pay for.
