The Federal Election Commission (FEC) has asked a Ted Cruz super PAC to explain why it gave $500,000 to another super PAC supporting one of his Republican rivals.
According to financial disclosures from June, Keep the Promise I - one of four separate committees backing Cruz - gave half a million dollars to CARLY for America, the political action committee supporting Carly Fiorina.
Super PACs are legally allowed to give money to other super PACs - they are only prohibited from donating directly to any political campaign. But it's unusual for one of these groups to give money to an opponent, especially when the candidate it supports is still in the race.

Because payments are only legal for legal purposes. The FEC is wondering whether this payment is evidence of some underlying crime such as bribery or extortion.
That happens to be part of their job.
Definitely not guilty, but also not worth $500K
If the NE story is true ... his seat will be vacant before my taxes are due.
Typical Trump response: “SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP”
Let’s walk this through.
I am a candidate and I find out while I have low poll ratings that a Super PAC that said they supported me started dumping large sums of its money to an actual competitor. It is illegal for me to talk with anyone there, but I can go on national television and complain that it appears people who claim to support me are shifting their money to my competitor. Doesn’t that make me look like even my supporters are doubting my candidacy in favor of another person with similarly low poll numbers?
Some things are best left unsaid. Cruz, to his credit, negotiated around that huge loss of support and became the only viable competitor to Trump.
It appears by not telling the world how weak he was to his supposed supporters helped him in the long run.
Then he needs to be in jail over that, if true.
Bless your little heart, you all knowing god, you.
Cruz bears responsibility for his name.
If a PAC holds itself out as supporting Cruz, and collects money from Cruz supporters by giving the impression that the money will go to supporting Cruz, and instead gives money to a Cruz rival, then Cruz has a duty to stop the fraud by announcing that the PAC in question is NOT on his side.
“So then if it’s legal, why is the FEC asking instead of minding its own business?”
Because when government bureaucrats are not surfing porn on the taxpayers’ dime, hiring prostitutes, or burning through federal revenues like plague-infested bed sheets, they consider it their religious duty to use the full force of the government to punish anyone who disagrees with abortion, homosexuality, the sexual exploitation of little children, Islam, socialism, and the spread of these things evangelistically around the world.
Because you can't announce your Veep nominee until you are the nominee. Duh!
Conservatives take individual personal responsibility... they never play the liberal blame game.
They have Ted Cruz's picture on the site. They proclaim they are supporting Cruz. They solicit money on the basis of supporting Cruz.
If they are collecting donations for purpose A, and spend that money on a competitor, then they are engaging in fraud. Cruz would have a duty to not be a party to that fraud, by telling the world that this PAC should no longer be considered to be on his side.
Cruz has no authority for anything with that PAC. Cruz wants people to give to his campaign, not to a PAC. What the PAC does is on those people and the donors to that PAC.
Cruz can publicly point out that it looks like his supporters were bailing on him at a critical time to a worse candidate, but does that profit him? None of the money being shifted was from any of his own donors.
Ted should be telling the FEC information around the loans.
“And you apparently weren’t smart enough to pick up on the fact that he’s counting on the support of rubes like yourself whose “conservatism” can be bought and are just too dull to realize that he’s playing you for a fool.”
There you Cruz supporters go again, just call us stupid! Stick to the facts and avoid the name calling.
No one finances an opposing campaign without one dam good reason. Their explanation is weak.
While I do not like linking to the madcow she does take closer look at the donation and offers and explanation Warning Mad Cow!

Ted the Harvard Law Schooled smartest lawyer across the fruited plain/plane knows exactly what he is doing... I cannot wait to see who he hires for his counsel... Levin?
The veep is supposed to balance the ticket, and provide an attack dog for the presidential candidate. Carly would be excellent in that role.
Will you still support Trump if he goes to the “dark side” and picks Kasich as his VP? Be honest.
I will take businesswoman Fiorina over ultimate GOPe insider Kasich anytime. It’s no contest.
Same here.
He is losing more and more people as this campaign goes on, and to think he had a bright future I thought.
