Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump told the New York Times he would consider stopping U.S. oil purchases from Saudi Arabia unless the Saudi government provide troops to fight Islamic State.
Trumps comment on Friday was included in a lengthy foreign policy interview published by the newspaper on Saturday and came in response to a question about whether, if elected president, he would halt oil purchases from U.S. allies unless they provided on-the-ground forces against Islamic State.
The answer is, probably yes, Trump said, according to a transcript.
Trump has said the United States should be reimbursed by the countries it provides protection, even those with vast resources such as Saudi Arabia, a top oil exporter.
And yet, without us, Saudi Arabia wouldnt exist for very long, Trump told the Times.
Were not being reimbursed for the kind of tremendous service that were performing by protecting various countries. Now Saudi Arabias one of them.
Trump also named in the interview retired Major General Gary Harrell, Major General Bert Mizusawa and retired Rear Admiral Charles Kubic as additional foreign policy advisors to the five named earlier this week who were criticized as obscure.
Trump has faced questions about his reluctance to reveal who was advising his campaign. He told the Times he was willing to rethink traditional U.S. alliances should he become president.

Hell yes. Build that pipeline!!
I’ve heard that the Saudis attach strings to pretty much all dealings with them, and remember last year complaints coming from that direction which sounded like they were displeased with the level of our service with respect to hopping to when they make demands of us militarily to invade other countries.
Why?
Not too bright if one knows anything of oil and ME politics.
can you say “Welcome” in Arabic to China and Russia?
Hopefully, whoever is POTUS next will get the damn Keystone pipeline built. The biggest disruption around oil is the crazy swings in commodity prices. Going between $28-$120 bbl routinely is very disruptive to the world economy. If the major users can stabilize their sources, I think you will see swing more in the $40//bbl range rather than $100/bbl. Take 75% of geo-political garbage out the equation, and things will go smoothly.
“Buy it when its cheap. Stop when it crosses a specified threshold. Let THEM worry about the economics of it.”
Reversing 5 decades of the Opecker Princes $crewing Americans with their cartel price fixing!
How much money have the Bushes, the Clintoons, Carter and Obama pocketed doing what the Opecker Princes have wanted.
Common sense can be so refreshing.
It’s called negotiation.
Pray America wakes
I’ve read the House of Saud is suddenly very interested in acquiring those sorts of things.
Ohhhhhhhh Yeahhhhhhhh! Haven't dealt with them on a political basis, but my experience in dealing with these guys is like a combination of (1) drunken sailors on shore leave after payday and (2) A whiny 8 year old in a beauty contest.
Some comes from remembering histories that I’ve read and some is cheating with google. I try to hold the making-stuff-up part to a minimum unless I get lazy.
Washington was one of the largest landowners and slave holders of his day. He also married a rich widow.
Jefferson and Madison were members of that same Virginia gentry, although Jefferson wasn’t nearly as good with managing his money.
Jackson was a plantation owner.
The Roosevelts belonged to a prominent family dating back to when New York was New Amsterdam.
Hoover had been an immensely successful mining engineer.
Jack Kennedy’s father created the family fortune by bootlegging Cutty Sark whiskey and stock market manipulation. They were something like the 6th richest family in the US when JFK was elected.
“I summon my blue-eyed slaves anytime it pleases me. I command the Americans to send me their bravest soldiers to die for me. Anytime I clap my hands a stupid genie called the American ambassador appears to do my bidding. When the Americans die in my service their bodies are frozen in metal boxes by the US Embassy and American airplanes carry them away, as if they never existed. Truly, America is my favorite slave.”
King Fahd Bin Abdul-Aziz, Jeddeh 1993
Sadly its because most professional politicians ARE lawyers.
Not just lawyers, but elite Harvard Law School Graduates!
How do Elite Harvard Law School grads feel about average American voters like us?
Correct. Oil is a World market. It is bought and sold at the same price regardless as to who pumps it. If it is not bought from Saudi Arabia they will simply sell it to China. As truth would have it we buy a little over 10% oil from Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf countries. We actually only import about 20% of our oil all together due to fracking and most of that is from Canada, South America we import almost as much oil from Africa as we do from the Middle East.
Does Post #43 indicate any reason why they should?
I’ve been saying for years that we can’t afford to provide free security for other countries, and that we should have been compensated with oil in Kuwait and Iraq. also, China should take care of the north Korea problem. Although I supported Cruz, I always liked Trump’s foreign policy.
I think, if I understand Trump, that he doesn't put up with all the nonsense from others because "it is the little foxes that spoil the vine". If he lets all the small petty things go they tend to build up, so he tries to destroy even the little criticisms and the what he views as many stupid remarks, bad attitudes and actions as they come up. He is defusing others negatives before they have a chance to grow and build up. He is trying to keep a solid front. He is like a warrior in battle who needs to strike out at the big guys as well as the little guys sneaking up from behind. Trump is definitely a fighter. Sometimes he may overdue it but I find it much better than all the limp wristed rinos we have been plagued with for so long.
How utterly refreshing. Speaking truth to power. He’d do it, too.
Uh, ye-ah. I wonder what would happen if the Shiites overran the Sunni.
Honestly, I’m not sure this accomplishes anything when dealing with a commodity.
So we don’t buy it, but we buy from the rest of the world and we buy from ourselves. The rest of the world buys from the Saudis, us, and the rest of the world.
It’s a shell game with no benefit.
wow. thanks for the info. always great to learn new things.
funny bit about the making stuff up part lol.
I have to double check way too many things before I type them at only 47!
