Bill Kristol: I Hope a Third Party Candidate Comes Forward
NewsMax ^ | March 25, 2016 | by Bill Hoffman

Posted on 03/25/2016 6:20:09 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Bill Kristol, founder and editor of The Weekly Standard, tells Newsmax TV he hopes a third-party candidate will emerge if Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are anointed the Republican and Democratic presidential nominees.

"I just don't think [Trump] has the character or temperament to be president of the United States ... [and] we're certainly not going to vote for Hillary," Kristol said Friday to J.D. Hayworth on "Newsmax Prime."

"There are a lot of fine Republicans and conservatives in the country, some of them are retired generals, some of them are businessmen, some of them are civic leaders, some of them are retired or current senators or governors.

"Let's see if anyone comes forward. Maybe it's all just a pipe dream. I'm willing to acknowledge it's possible that this won't happen."

And what would a third party be called?

"I kind of like the Federalist Party. They were a great party for the first 12 years in the republic before they went out of business. The Alexander Hamilton Party, there are a lot of good names," said Kristol, whose publication is a leading conservative opinion magazine.

"Look, I don't want to start a third party, I'm a Republican. I've voted Republican in every presidential election in my adult lifetime and virtually every Senate and governor, gubernatorial election.

Considering what candidates are left in the GOP, and DNC, and considering the GOP elites betrayal of their pledge, I am increasingly wanting to see Trump call them on their betrayal and run AS the independant.

He needs a smoking gun though to make it work... like being denied the nomination with a clear majority.

What stinks about this is they asked us to hold our noses and vote McCain and Romney. Now it’s their turn to hold their nose. Well I’ll be holding my nose again this year if it’s Trump too, but still.

They’ve always told us to support the Republican candidate who was the RINO and not go third party.

Now they will go and do what they told us not to do.

Priceless.

He did say “third party” versus “second”, take note.

If Bill Kristol says this while knowing a third party throws the election over to the communist democrats, then he’s nothing but a traitor.

I think Kristol went to the dark side more than awhile ago.

“They hate Trump because he threatens their cozy lifestyle in Washington DC cabal. They will gladly accept Hillary over Trump because she does not threaten their cozy lifestyle.”

“In truth, they’ve been worse by far than the RATS because they’ve been successul at BSing all of us into thinking that this business of “installing conservatism” was just damned hard to do and that they were doing the best that they could. Screw me once, shame on you, screw me over and over again, shame on me.”

Man you hit the nail on the head. That's exactly what I've been thinking. Politicians they've never done anything conservative or pro-American just the opposite. All talk and promises

Okay, sure. There is the Democrat Party, and then there is the Republican Party. They are two legally separate organizations, each with thousands of officers legally members of those two parties. That is true even if some people use the colloquialism "Uniparty" to describe them collectively.

But that's just semantics. Point is, Kristol is saying another party other tuan GOP/Democrata is needed. And isn't that exactly what those who talk about the Uniparty urge as well?

You missed my point. By saying “third party”, he still regards the Democrats and Republicans as separate entities ideologically.

As for alleged legalities, that’s akin to regarding the Supreme Court’s kritocratic social moves of late as “legal”.

I didn’t miss your point. I think your point is irrelevant to the issue of whether you think we need a new party. Whether you count them separately or just as one, the core issue is do we need another party (whether you count that as no. 2 or no. 3), or not?

When we have a de facto single party, the need for a second party—but not just another party, but one ideologically aligned with the core founding principles of the USA (otherwise you just get another left-wing party that caucuses with the preceding “Uniparty”)—becomes more urgent.

Haven’t we all agree that the GOP essentially goes along with much of the Leftist agenda? I don’t have any respect for the RNC or broader GOPe.

They work against our wishes. They could have defunded anything they wanted. They haven’t. We have been sold out.

I have said this to lead into this. I think it will make more sense.

We don’t want to go third party, because unless the right person does it, it will fail. Who besides Trump would have the gravitas to pull it off? And even then, who would advise that if you can possibly avoid it? Third party runs are very iffy.

Well, guess what. Floor fights at the Republican Convention are just as iffy. You don’t have a chance of losing to a Democrat there, but you do have a chance of losing to something almost as bad, a RINO infested GOP.

So when people talk of third party bids, or floor fights, they are both things to be avoided at all cost.

Going into a convention by plan, to enter into a floor fight as your only chance, is crazy talk, and if you actually consider yourself a Conservative, it isn’t just crazy talk, it’s the talk of political suicide.

We have only one guy now that can avoid a floor fight. And at the present time, we have folks trying to destroy his chances with all their might, any way, any idea, anything to bring this to a floor fight.

Folks, who wants a floor fight?

Conservatives? Ha! They’ll never win one.

The GOPe RNC wants a floor fight. And those who help to get them into one, are not our friends.

We have waited for a guy like Trump for almost 30 years.

Right now, all to many folks are trying to destroy this opportunity for the GOPe.

That’s just confounding if you’re a true Conservative and want to see things change.

NOT ONE THING WILL CHANGE OVER THE NEXT 8 YEARS

IF THERE IS FLOOR FIGHT

So I ask folks to please stop trying to force one.

When you do, you are doing on of two things. You are revealing that you can’t grasp this simple dynamic, or that you are now and always have been in this for the GOPe.

I am not! The GOPe can go straight to hell.

They wouldn’t listen to us, and I’ll be damned if I’ll listen to them now.
