N.C. Gov. McCrory signs into law bill restricting LGBT protections
Charlotte Observer ^ | 3/23/2016 | Steve Harrison

RALEIGH-The N.C. General Assembly on Wednesday approved a bill that invalidates Charlotte's new legal protections for LGBT individuals, doing far more than striking down a controversial provision that allowed transgendered people to use the bathroom of the gender with which they identify. Gov. Pat McCrory signed it into law hours later.

The vote in the House was 84-25 after three hours of debate, with all Republicans voting for it and 11 Democrats breaking ranks with their party to support the bill.

In the Senate, the vote was 32-0 after the Democrats walked out in protest, saying they had not been allowed to participate in the process.

"We witnessed an affront to democracy," said Democratic Sen. Dan Blue of Raleigh, the minority leader. "We will not be silent."

Last year in Indiana, there was a nationwide uproar over a "Religious Freedom" law that critics said would make it easy for businesses to discriminate against gays and lesbians. Critics of the North Carolina bill, which passed in a one-day special session, said it was perhaps the most 'anti LGBT legislation' in the nation.

Dana Fenton, the city of Charlotte's lobbyist, said the bill would invalidate the city's newly expanded nondiscrimination ordinance, passed 7-4 in a City Council vote in February. He said he believes the state's largest employers would have lobbied the governor to veto it.......

State Rep. Dan Bishop, a Charlotte Republican who sponsored the bill, said the legislature likely would not have convened had Charlotte passed a nondiscrimination ordinance that included protections for LGBT individuals but didn't allow for the bathroom flexibility......

But asked why the bill does more than strike down the bathroom flexibility, Bishop said it made sense to keep the state in line with the protected classes recognized by the federal government...

I see fallout from the GOP primary results in NC the other week and the utter failure of the Great RINO Hope Marco Rubio. Donald Trump and Ted Cruz were the winners in NC, with lots of 'religious voters' in their camps.

The GOPe knows they are out of touch with the grassroots and the sudden special session of the NC legislature this week to pass the bathroom-locker room protection law and negate Charlotte's new ordinance is proof.

I guess you could say the Republican Establishment in North Carolina has been "Trumped".

I suspect the federal courts get involved sooner or later, the Republicans get the boost of an emotional wedge issue for awhile.

BUT WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN THE FEDERAL COURTS FORCE THE ISSUE OF TRANGENDER ACCESS TO LOCKER ROOMS AND RESTROOMS ON THE BASIS OF THEIR GENDER INDENTITY?

...Democrats walked out in protest...

"If we can't have our way, we're taking our toys and going home!"

I see as many democrats supported this legislation as republicans did Obamacare.

There is media bias and then there is a foam-at-the-mouth tantrum. This is the latter.

If the so-called LGBT ‘community’ (do they all live next door to each other?) wanted certain so-called protections then they should have been less ambitious and more selective in their personal vanity law.

But L, G, B and even T aren’t enough to shock and annoy polite society these days so they decided the hill they would die on would be the gravely important, noble cause of poo-poo and pee-pee. And so they died.

Naturally, society fighting back outrages them. Defeat via the democratic, legislative process incenses them. Rather than state their case and face the music (cliche alert) they pull a Wisconsin-like stunt and flee the legislative chamber.

‘We will not be silent’ - the usual tough talk. But if you wanted your voice to be heard officially, why not remain in the official place of business?

The Dems who walked out are not fit to hold public office in the first place. No one should be placed into public office who advocates for practices such as depositing human sperm into the rectum. Any republic that grants authority to advocates of killing unborn children is acting out its own suicide.

Gee...how convenient! That way they can’t go on the record.

That’s why you get a vote, moron. You silenced yourselves by walking out.

Democracy’s a bitch, ain’t it?

Donald Trump endorsed NYC Mayor Comrade Bill De Blasio who put a rule in place making it illegal to prevent anyone of any gender from using the lovkeroom or bathroom of their choice.

Wake up people, Trump is a lifelong enemy of Conservative values.

So allowing some mentally ill dude to waltz into a woman's loo because he thinks he's a female is "restricting their rights"?

Well, dammit, I'm Napoleon and think the public should buy me a French Field Marshal's uniform!

” allowed transgendered people to use the bathroom of the gender with which they identify. “

BS. The law said anyone could use the bathroom of their choice. There is no way to prove transgenderedness.

discrimination is the process of selecting that which is good and culling that which is evil

Discrimination is good

I see this bill as nothing more than saying your plumbing needs to match the bathroom plumbing.

Nothing that restricts anybody’s rights.

“I see as many democrats supported this legislation as republicans did Obamacare.”

Obamacare did not get a single Republican vote in Congress. It is totally a Democratic ordeal cast upon the nation.

You’d think that with the transgender bathroom nonsense thee’d would be fear of lawsuits filed against the municipalities for setting up an environment conducive to sexual crimes involving children and females but NO allowing the pansexuals / transgenders access to the same bathroom space is more important than the possibility of your children or spouse getting raped or molested.

What happened to sanity?

Let me give you a little primer on Democrats in NC. They are HYPOCRITES to the highest order. On the camera they are pro choice pro gay, etc. But behind the scenes when no one is looking they are the most racist people and yes they hate homosexuality.

Maybe it is a ruse to keep Syrian refugees out of the state. No Muslim father wants his daughter sharing a bathroom with a man.

I'm surprised all the transgenders, queers and lesbians have't expired from aids.

It’s not what’s in the mind that should determine which bathroom to use, it’s what’s in the pants.
