GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz said Tuesday that Donald Trump was engaging in a "pre-emptive surrender" to Islamic terror by calling for a "withdrawal" from NATO on the eve of the Brussels terror attacks.
On Monday, Trump told CNN that the U.S. should greatly reduce its support of NATO.
"It's too much and frankly it's a different world than it was when we originally conceived of the idea," Trump said of the US-European security alliance.
Cruz said he found it "striking" that the terror attacks occurred on the day after his rival candidate Donald Trump called for reducing the U.S. role NATO.
"We see Brussels where NATO is headquartered as the subject of a radical Islamic terrorist attack," Cruz said in a press conference from Washington D.C.
"Donald Trump is wrong that America should withdraw from the world and abandon our allies. Donald Trump is wrong that America should retreat from Europe, retreat from NATO, hand Vladimir Putin a major victory, and while's he's at it, hand ISIS a major victory."

I sure hope you are not posting this as a Positive for Cruz?
Yo Caucus for Perpetual War please explain why NATO has failed to defend Europe against the terrorist attacks in Paris and Brussels?>
What good is NATO going to do against ISIS when NATO countries are busy importing their own murderers.
Wrong line of attach by Cruz. He should have stuck to condemning ISIS. Just like he should have stuck to condemning the Chicago protesters instead of also taking the opportunity to attack Trump’s rhetoric at the same time.
Nothing classier than Calgary Ted dancing in the blood of the victims to score political points. Go Cruz, back to Canada!
As a Trump supporter I am 100% happy with Cruz’s statements. Please put more microphones in front of Teddy.
So, the Cruz message is: “Since NATO let themselves be overrun by Muslims, the US should send more troops to be stationed in our countries”
What an idiotic policy.
Right. It isn’t working, so let’s do more of it!!

Cruz just can’t help himself. He looks so small and unpresidential when he does it. Cruz’s instinctive need to lash out in these sensitive moments show that this man will never be POTUS
I used to like Cruz, he was my second choice, but no more. Cruz and his alter ego, Glenn Beck, sink deeper into the slime every single day. Hopefully, they will both soon disappear beneath the surface, and never be seen or heard from again.
NATO allies “have to put up more money,” he said. “We are paying disproportionately. It’s too much, and frankly it’s a different world than it was when we originally conceived of the idea.”
The USA is so far in debt that every thing is going to come under review.
Sorry Ted but that is the reality.
Yup. The more people hear from him the less they like him
I guess we should keep funding NATO because once Europe imports enough ISIS invaders they’re going to need peacekeeper troops in their own countries in addition to billions of dollars in welfare to feed and house these people while they prep for their terrorist attacks.
Brilliant plan, Ted.
I can’t believe they came out with that as a response.
Their foreign policy is campaign driven!!!
Cruz is an ass: the two topics have nothing to do with each other
Knowing these guys they likely actually believe it.
