Donald Trump and his backers want to redefine mathematics, and have the GOP nomination handed to him with a plurality of delegates, rather than a majority, being sufficient...

The Republican party has held 39 national conventions since its first in 1856. At each and every one, a majority of delegates was needed for someone to get the nomination...

The GOP changed the rules when Romney came up short in 2012. Sorry, John. Doesn’t matter anyway, Trump will get 1237.

moot point, Trump will easily get more than the required amount of delegates.

I hope people have noticed all the effort to soften us up and get us accustomed to the idea that a brokered convention is normal and that the process will go forward and if the candidate picked by GOPe is not a candidate we all wanted, well there was a process and it was open and it was transparent and so we treated you fairly as we stole the election from you again.

At this point they need to get over it. We saw that trick too many times. The next president is going to be Trump or it is going to be Sanders or it is going to be Hillary. Putting Jeb! and little marco and Kasich in a blender and pulling Ryan out of the hat is going to fool no one. While once I would have supported Cruz, I am not sure he isn't his own road-kill at this point.

Trump has made no effort to change the rules. He has complained because other establishment types are wanting to change the rules.

Yes it makes sense that a majority is required.

Is John Fund as committed to upholding the rule of law on immigration?

If he gets more votes than the others, why shouldn’t he be the nominee?
The GOP is playing dirty. Trump is just meeting fire with fire.

Why not? Romney did it in 2012, and the GOPe is doing it now.

If Trump has the most delegates going into the convention (but not 1237), the GOP has two choices:

1. Go with Trump (who could beat Hillary), and try to win as many downline contests as possible: Senate, the House, State Houses and Governorships.

2. Screw Trump GOP voters at the convention, and lose EVERYTHING.

That’s right, the RNC makes the rules and the RNC can change the rules. But they do so at their own peril because if they screw with Trump he may just drop the big one and run as a write-in or 3rd party and guarantee the end of the GOP as well as President Hillary. They will not risk a nuclear option that would put control of Congress in jeopardy because that’s what feeds their bank accounts.

If a runner gets 3/4 of the way around the track, does the get the trophy, or must he first cross the finish line?

Blah blah blah....

None of this matters. Trump is going to get the delegates he needs to win outright.

I guess it depends on what the rules are before they start the race.

Worth reading for background on GOP rules power play. Note this was written in 2012 after the Romney shenanigans:
