Arizona's primary is Tuesday, but more than half the ballots have already been cast including for candidates who've left the race.
By the time Ted Cruz arrived Friday at the tiny border town of Douglas for his first Arizona event of 2016, he was already too late for the hundreds of thousands of Republicans who had already voted.
Election day is still two days away in Arizona but well more than half of Republicans expected to vote in the states Tuesday primary have already cast their ballots complicating Cruz's attempts overtake Donald Trump as both make a late push for the states lucrative, winner-take-all prize of 58 delegates.
A candidate cannot win Arizona if they dont do well in early balloting, said Nathan Sproul, an Arizona Republican strategist who had served as co-chair for Marco Rubios campaign in the state.
Arizona has among the most robust early-voting programs in the country. In Maricopa, the states largest county, early voters in 2016 comprise already nearly 90 percent of the countys total GOP turnout four years ago.

The very, very Politico hopes Trump wins, because they know Trump is a liberl Dem.
“..Trumps spent nearly $50,000 to elect congressional Democrats, they donated only $1,000 to the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRSC)....”
Look, chances are now very high that we are going to have an open convention. So we will get to see if Trump is the great dealmaker he claims to be after the delegates are released after the first ballot. My prediction? If he doesn't get enough to win on the first ballot, he doesn't win period.
Cruz needs to run for president not “Trump Stopper”.
I keep seeing Stabby the Clown as a really frumpy, seedy lawn jockey or garden gnome in that costume.
SplatTED
Unless they’re planning on stealing AZ. Half the people have already voted so Ted is late to the party. McCain is fighting to keep his rusty ole seat, again.
Right now, the only five dollar hooker on the scene is BusTed.
Sad how far so many of you have fallen you’ll let Glenn Beck proclaim him a prophet and not bat an eyelash, then get in bed with Romney and McLame.
Yes.
Cruz NEVER had a chance. It’s not strategy, it’s the phony candidate. Trump is a better candidate. Trump has a better message. Trump is self funding. Trump doesn’t have crazy Glenn Beck hanging around his neck. Trump doesn’t have that LOSER Mitt Romney dragging him down. Trump doesn’t have that loser Lindsay Graham helping him out.
Trump, a part time Presbyterian, is winning the evangelical vote over the Dominionist, Seven Mountain radical, holier than thou, son of a preacher man.
NOW, you ask if it’s already too late for Cruz?
IT WAS ALWAYS TOO LATE.
What kind of fast was he on? The KFC fast?
Pray America wakes
Typical Cruz supporter. Ready to throw a temper tantrum and hand the nomination to the GOPe just because his chosen candidate can’t win the nomination.
Guess what Skippy—if the convention goes past the first ballot, Cruz won’t win the nomination either.
It is beyond stunning LS.
Yep, Cruz is bitter and just playing a spoiler roll now. The Canadian should just drop out. If not, Trump will still win it. Then the fun begins!
Rush is not an idiot. At times he seems to think his audience is, however.
I think the plan is to broker Willard as the nominee, add VP Felito as a sop to the Consistently Credulous Conservatives, and that they think this patch up retread of 2012 Part 2 will work this time. A Willard Cruz ticket will be twice as alienating as 2012.
So he’s simply pushing the idea that Cruz can still win just to block Trump?
No one likes or trusts him. He will be on a tight per diem allowance, and have to sit up and beg for treats.
One of his close aides has said that Cruz will pull an upset on Trump in AZ because of his ground game, no doubt quietly aided by McCain. Not sure why he has been so relatively quiet about this election. Not like him at all.

I think Trump took him out early with his statement about liking people who weren’t prisoners. Songbird has never had a spotlight put on some of the POW rumors out there.
