Arizona's primary is Tuesday, but more than half the ballots have already been cast including for candidates who've left the race.
By the time Ted Cruz arrived Friday at the tiny border town of Douglas for his first Arizona event of 2016, he was already too late for the hundreds of thousands of Republicans who had already voted.
Election day is still two days away in Arizona but well more than half of Republicans expected to vote in the states Tuesday primary have already cast their ballots complicating Cruz's attempts overtake Donald Trump as both make a late push for the states lucrative, winner-take-all prize of 58 delegates.
A candidate cannot win Arizona if they dont do well in early balloting, said Nathan Sproul, an Arizona Republican strategist who had served as co-chair for Marco Rubios campaign in the state.
Arizona has among the most robust early-voting programs in the country. In Maricopa, the states largest county, early voters in 2016 comprise already nearly 90 percent of the countys total GOP turnout four years ago.

Have you not watched the postman’s son the delusion.al turd think if gets no one to get 1237 he will be rewarded in the brokered convention. If the uniparty can stop Cruz and Trump, we will have another RINO with Kasich as VP.
However, his campaign finished Jan with $13 million, and raised $12 million in Feb according to their monthly filing published in early March.
Hard money, which one either has or has to raise, can only be raised in $2,700 increments. And this last week the FEC ordered the Cruz campaign to return several million $ to people who had exceeded that limit.
His campaign is totally dependent on that vaunted ground game. And the only LEGAL way to fund it is with hard money.
Yes, he's running on fumes and small loans. Or IOU's.
The only plausible way he can continue is to make a deal that would ensure a massive injection into his PACs and a shift in strategy to massive bombardment over the air funded by them.
And releasing all but a small staff.
[full disclosure - Cruz supporter]
I am still of the opinion that Trump goes into the convention with about 1,300 delegates. Enough for the nomination on the first round.
Lately the GOPe has been trying to play the game of split the remaining delegates by not supporting Cruz enough to win, but just enough to prevent anyone from getting the nomination. I dont think that tactic will work.
I wouldn't expect him to say, "I'm in the race to act as spoiler because I've already got a VP slot locked up."
How do we know they are or will be shortly if we won't know until the end of April?
Also there is a rule to do when someone says to you “Trust Me”......RUN!
Agree 100%
“If the GOPe had gone as hard against The Won as theyre going against Trump, we would have had a Republican president for the last eight years.”
Exactly. But they sold out to the Dems a long time ago.
It’s an internal Cruz campaign poll. It’s as accurate as the Rubio campaign polls that showed Marco within 5% of Trump in Florida.
Reputable polling shows Trump with a double digit lead, and an even bigger lead in early voting. The idea that Cruz can win Arizona is just another fantasy pushed by Cruz supporters to delay the inevitable.
Yea, at this point, it’s all about getting to that brokered convention. Isn’t that just like the GOPe to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
OMG ROFL ROFL I wonder if this is how Donald would have taken down the dude that jumped over the barrier and approached the staged. LOL
He looks like a clown....where is the knife?
Cruz’s negatives are bigger than Trump’s:
but but but, he’s the only one that can stop Hillary!
Didn’t you notice there were 30 other primaries going on right before this one?
Always hard to tell if Trump’s ardent supporters are morons or just liars.
Another total Trumpster lie.
Nobody's negatives are bigger than Trump's, not even Hillary's. Trump has the highest negatives they have ever recorded for a candidate for President. That has been widely reported throughout the campaign season.
As the saying goes, you have the right to your own opinion, but not the right to your own facts...
So if Cruz is so great, why doesn’t he have this all wrapped up?? Instead, he needs over 85% of the remaining delegates. Sounds like a loser to me.
He’s bogleing...
After he defeats Sen. PalpaTed in a duel, or what??
