Republican Leaders Map a Strategy to Derail Donald Trump (Coburn or Perry 3rd party candidate)
New York Times ^ | March 19, 2016 | ALEXANDER BURNS and JONATHAN MARTIN

Republican leaders adamantly opposed to Donald J. Trump’s candidacy are preparing a 100-day campaign to deny him the presidential nomination, starting with an aggressive battle in Wisconsin’s April 5 primary and extending into the summer, with a delegate-by-delegate lobbying effort that would cast Mr. Trump as a calamitous choice for the general election.

Recognizing that Mr. Trump has seized a formidable advantage in the race, they say that an effort to block him would rely on an array of desperation measures, the political equivalent of guerrilla fighting.

There is no longer room for error or delay, the anti-Trump forces say, and without a flawlessly executed plan of attack, he could well become unstoppable.

But should that effort falter, leading conservatives are prepared to field an independent candidate in the general election, to defend Republican principles and offer traditional conservatives an alternative to Mr. Trump’s hard-edged populism. They described their plans in interviews after Mr. Trump’s victories last Tuesday in Florida and three other states.

The names of a few well-known conservatives have been offered up in recent days as potential third-party standard-bearers, and William Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard, has circulated a memo to a small number of conservative allies detailing the process by which an independent candidate could get on general-election ballots across the country.

Among the recruits under discussion are Tom Coburn, a former Oklahoma senator who has told associates that he would be open to running, and Rick Perry, the former Texas governor who was suggested as a possible third-party candidate at a meeting of conservative activists on Thursday in Washington.

Mr. Coburn, who left the Senate early last year to receive treatment for cancer, said in an interview that Mr. Trump “needs to be stopped”

Thanks for slandering decent, hard-working Americans who just want the federal government to be looking out for America's interests.

These are people from all walks of life who are supporting Trump.

I didn't slander anyone. I made an observation. and if you truly believe that a trump administration would result in a "federal government to be looking out for america's interests", then you're going a long ways to proving my point.

Kristol was just full of sh$t the whole time. Give the Witch four years to frig up the world there won’t even be an Israel anymore. The US will be Venezuela, the EU over run, China will be sending care packages to Appalachia once they foreclose on KY. There won’t be any subscribers for his magazine - everyone that could afford it or care about it will have already moved to New Zealand or Australia.

Naps... just because Cruz supporters have more facts and more sense than trumpers and because you have succumbed to a flim flam man who has donated more to democrats than to Republicans, you don’t need to fear us.

Hey, we are wading through zombie hordes to get on here and try to help you.

I strongly oppose trump, and find his supporters delusional and annoying ///

If you oppose Trump on FR I can see the annoying part.

But at this point in time it’s the anti Trump folks who are delusional.

You are bitter. Your guy won 3 primary states. Why not just saver the wins? Why can’t you see by Tuesday’s results that American voters don’t want Cruz? As soon as you realize that the better you’ll feel.

sitting in his Iwo Jima Cave, General Tadamichi Kuribayashi called his command staff to a meeting to discuss the coming offensive. As the artillery shook the ground and the odor of hot burned flesh wafted through the waterless space, the good general outlined how the remaining able bodied troops would mass for the charge.

He led the assault and was ultimately assisted in Hari kari by his aide decamp there on the beach where he fell after being wounded

On that day Adolph Hitler gave orders to the luftwaffe to attack in Russian not realizing there was no Luftwaffe. Later that day he ordered the 137th panzer s to attack the Russian flank not knowing the flank was now forward 56 miles and the panzers were out of gas

Anyone not supporting Trump is a liberal Republican.

Why say something so incorrect as to tarnish one's name on FR to the point of nobody wanting to take future posts by you seriously?

For everyone else watching, what else need be said? Let's see, we have The Pledge, the dis-invitings, The Not Pledge, the NRO Against Trump, Red State's NeverTrump, Romneys anyone but Trump, and so forth.

These aren't friends of the Republican Party folks. They can blow their fifes and go do their own thing, but not on our dime or time. Scoot along now, let us know when you have your little convention so we can go protest and all...

There is nothing delusional in opposing Trump.

You can give me no good reasons to support him except that he’s made a lot of wild promises that you believe.

There is nothing in his history that proves he will do what he says. He has changed positions so many times it hurts.

All you trumpers can do now is swarm and insult Cruz supporters.

You can give nothing positive.

Let me post something here and see if anyone denies or refutes it ... or just calls me an idiot.

Here goes:

2016 Republican presidential candidate and billionaire real estate investor Donald Trump borrowed money from progressive-leaning billionaire George Soros back in 2004 to build the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago.

In October of 2004, Thomas A. Corfman wrote in The Chicago Tribune, “Donald Trump has lined up three New York hedge funds, including money from billionaire George Soros, to invest $160 million in his Chicago skyscraper, a key piece in perhaps the largest construction financing in the city’s history, according to real estate sources and public documents. … The $160 million investment is in the form of a mezzanine loan, a kind of second mortgage that typically charges a much higher interest rate than a first-mortgage construction loan.”

Trump and Soros were also listed as co-defendants in a 2008 RICO lawsuit disputing the sale of a Manhattan General Motors building. A report on the case by Pensions and Investments listed Trump and Soros as investors in the property.

He said a lot more than that. He said of course I’m on Israel’s side. But to try to to broker a deal I’ll be fair and have a clean sheet of paper and maybe we’ll see if it can go anywhere. If you think that’s bad then I don’t care what you think.
