What has happened to Free Republic? [What difference at this point can it possibly make?]

Posted on 03/17/2016 3:13:11 PM PDT by katwoman5779

Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. Most of the serious posts were bemoaning the out of control government and what could be done about it. "Oh Whoa is Me!". Then along comes a constitutional conservative. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. This man was elected by conservatives to go to Washington and stand up to the elites that no longer listen to the American people. He didn't go to Washington and "fall in" with the crowd. He went there and stood up to them just like he said it would - calling a spade a spade. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how otherwise intelligent people can fall for the likes of Donald Trump. This man was donating to the same people we were fighting to throw out of office the last eight years. Suddenly he is a conservative after years of joining with the liberals to promote big fat bloated government. He is not an outsider. He has been greasing the palms of the slime bags in Washington for 30 years. He can't even define what conservatism is. Wake up America. You are no better than the sycophants that suck up to Obuma. You can't see that Trump is just pushing your buttons with his rhetoric - just like Obuma pushed his sycophants buttons. The hate I see on Free Republic for Ted Cruz, Mark Levin and all the other great conservative leaders remind me of liberal websites. It is disgusting.

Is there a special need you possess that makes you eager to be so unkind? You can glorify Ted all you want, it simply unkind to name call people who see him as a fraud.

I do, and yep, maybe having been born here they ARE much easier to spot. I had him pegged after the nonsensical discussion about his super duper extra special secret poison pill on the gang of 8. Followed by his weak ‘we’ll have a conversation’ comment regarding amnesty.

Topping it off was his lame blaming of Trump this past weekend. Brilliant!

I appreciate your reasoned, coherent response, though I disagree with some of your conclusions.

Trump has only recently come to conservative positions on several issues, while Cruz has been a rock solid conservative for many years.

Trump is a deal maker, and I fear he will negotiate with Pelosi and Reid, rather than standing up to them.

All the polls say Cruz will beat Hillary and Trump will lose to her. I am not enamored by polls, but that is what they say at this point.

SO I will support Trump is he wins, but would prefer Cruz. I want someone I can trust, and Ted is the man!

Insulting people is generally not a good persuasion technique.

Tell that to your leader, Trump the Insult-Comic Dog, who has alienated and insulted a good portion of the party he would need in November. ========================================================

So try this Mr. smarty pants:

Ted Cruz: “Listen, Donald does well with voters who have relatively low information, who are not that engaged and who are angry and they see him as an angry voice.

Since there are more Trump than cruise voters, this might not seem "a good persuasion technique."

I don’t believe that trump will actually do what he says. He is saying things to get elected. Remember what he said about “negotiating?” “Always start out tough and then negotiate down?” Border thing, etc., yeah, we will “make deals.”

FR has become trump republic and the general attitude of trump supporters here against people with whom they don’t agree represents trump’s attitude itself.

katwoman5779 does have a point there, Trump has never held a political office. He says he will get rid of illegals but what is his political backing to prove this? What has he ever voted on in the past as a politician that will prove he will do anything he says he will do?

At least with Cruz we have some track record.

And his position on illegals was different a mere 4 years ago. What’s happening is the Trumpsters, because he gas never held political office, are molding him into their personal perfect candidate. He never had to vote on legislation, but many of his past statements and positions aren’t matching his rhetoric now. That’s why his supporters, when confronted with his past positions and statements, either tell you you’re lying or tell you people can change their minds

Re: “Senator Cruz’s dual citizenship with Canada“
Was it even “dual” citizenship? Wasn’t he 100% Canadian, but living in the U.S.?

No. The way the Canadian law works, if you are born to a non-Canadian mother in Canada you have dual citizenship. However, Cruz's parents thought they had to positively affirm the desire to take the Canadian citizenship, and since they did not do that, they thought Ted only had US citizenship. A Dallas newspaper researching a piece about him in 2013 found out that the Canadian citizenship actually had been automatic which made him a dual citizen. So he went ahead and renounced it which became official sometime in 2014.

You chose to use the term troll-boy.

I will understand that you have no idea what used to occur on this forum. The typical internet tripe did not happen here and if it showed up, those who tried it were quickly set right. But, while I agree with the need to take apart the apparatus of the Republican Party that has become so corrupt, I do not have any silly notions that either Trump or Cruz are going to magically solve the problems that we face.

Difficult days are ahead, I’m not sure that you are up to it.

Did you even read the article? Have you given it a thought? What is happening this year cannot be compared to what happened in the past here on FR or anywhere else. Yeah, I know you’ve been here for a long time, but quantity does not necessarily translates into quality.

Please. Trumpers are the absolute worst at name calling.

I have been called every name in the book and some not even in the book..

When I’ve posted a fact, trumpers have ignored it and either verbally attacked me or Ted Cruz.

Trumpers have no room... not even an inch ... to call unkindness on anyone else.

If I took them seriously, I’d be very depressed, but I know they are ill.

They have Trumpmania. There is no cure.

I believe when Cruz was born, Canada is not have dual citizenship. Born in Canada, Canadian citizen. What his parents had to do and did not apparently, was positively affirm he was an American citizen.

And pictures.

A picture *is* worth a thousand words.

Besides, some forms of humor communicate better visually.
