Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. Most of the serious posts were bemoaning the out of control government and what could be done about it. "Oh Whoa is Me!". Then along comes a constitutional conservative. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. This man was elected by conservatives to go to Washington and stand up to the elites that no longer listen to the American people. He didn't go to Washington and "fall in" with the crowd. He went there and stood up to them just like he said it would - calling a spade a spade. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how otherwise intelligent people can fall for the likes of Donald Trump. This man was donating to the same people we were fighting to throw out of office the last eight years. Suddenly he is a conservative after years of joining with the liberals to promote big fat bloated government. He is not an outsider. He has been greasing the palms of the slime bags in Washington for 30 years. He can't even define what conservatism is. Wake up America. You are no better than the sycophants that suck up to Obuma. You can't see that Trump is just pushing your buttons with his rhetoric - just like Obuma pushed his sycophants buttons. The hate I see on Free Republic for Ted Cruz, Mark Levin and all the other great conservative leaders remind me of liberal websites. It is disgusting.
This is EXACTLY the FR of old, though missing the intelligence and knowledge of those no longer here.
Yep, the similarities in words/actions seem like an Obama replay of 2008 and 2012.
#538 My heart hopes you are right
My Brain and everything I sense when I listen and watch him tells me you are wrong.
If he wins we will get the answer in short order with the Court pick, Iran. Isis and How he deals with barkys EOs and the Southern border.
If he doesn’t immediately put the Border patrol back on the border and deport those getting caught sneaking in you know he was snowing us
Yes, RIP, Fred.
Link? I would like to know what he said about Trump before he blamed him.
I’m old enough to remember that Howard Baker and George Bush were considered the “Conservatives”, an Ronald Reagan was “That damned Liberal Guy!” in the 1980 election.
Burn a couple hundred books, that should really rev you up.
My Pen-Pal of 53 years living in Northern England thinks I’m nutter than a fruit cake. I only know this because I usually hear from here every 2 to 3 days. Its been over a week. LOL HEHE I won her over with “W”. I’ll have my work cut out for me over President Trump.
“So imagine $35 million of attack ads in Florida that Trump withstood in the last few weeks! And he won by almost 20%. What an achievement.”
That IS incredible. I have never seen anything quite like this in all the years I’ve been paying attention to politics.

When we needed a man we got the mouse.
Thank, great post. I’m with you.
How lean is Trumps Campaign?
How much has he spent as compared to Cruz?
What makes you think Cruz, the Establishment Guy, can cut Fedzilla?
Wow!

It has been since was a young buck in Subic Bay on Liberty back in the 70’ that I have had that many choices!
San Miguel is unavailable to me this evening ... I will make do with what I have... Gonna be a GOOD NIGHT!
Jeff, you’ve always been such a voice of reason and substance. We all have our favorites. Mine was Carson. Last time around it was Herman Cain. Both brought experience of a different kind and a positive outlook. That’s what I want back. I’ve been here since 2004 (right after Rathergate) So many here have real gifts. the discussions here have kept me going for over a decade and I have learned much. That is something worth saving.
Well said!
I agree 100%.
The only sane explanation I can think of is that Trump is the result of the “anti-political-establishment” sentiment and people are rejecting Cruz because he has been a Senator. But this is a very “low-info” attitude.
Cruz is more of an outsider than Trump based on the positions he has taken and how he has stood up to the GOPe. That has been truly impressive. People who don’t know what he’s done should look into it. If reading is too burdensome, check out some of his floor speeches on YouTube.
Trump has been in bed with politicians for years and years (Clinton wedding, Clinton donations, etc, etc. ) and mostly on the democrat side. He SAYS that he has given to both parties but the amount he has given to republicans is puny compared to what he has given to democrats. And I’m sure there was always something in it for him.
What saddens me the most here on FR is the name-calling on both sides when someone does not like the other side’s preferred candidate. (I don’t mind picking on the liberals, this is a conservative site and if they don’t like it they should go back to HuffPo or DU.) I’d like to see us stick to rational discussions amongst ourselves. Taking a cheap shot is basically admitting you’ve run out of arguments.
Do I think Cruz is perfect? No. He’s a bit too “lawyerly” and political to be my dream candidate. But I think he is the most truly conservative candidate to come along in years. And by far the most intelligent. Maybe that is what scares people.
