Should Trump and Cruz unite with we the people against the establishment uni-party?

Posted on 03/16/2016 1:31:00 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

The biggest plus is a Trump/Cruz ticket would immediately secure the nomination for us (the majority of the right-leaning grassroots voters), end any possibility of a GOPe betrayal at the convention, and would ensure the Republican party is finally with we the grassroots people (tea party, conservatives, religious people, economic conservatives, business people, middle class, blue collar, national security patriots, etc, ie, a rebirth of the Reagan Coalition) and against the globalist GOP big government establishment. It’d be a yuuuge middle finger to the elite ruling classes of both parties.

And it would have coattails guaranteeing a pro-America landslide against the America-hating Marxists and a strengthening of the Republican majority in the congress and in local and state governments. And finally begin a return to constitutional, pro-America, pro-free-market government and a reversal of the slide into godless socialism and globalism.

A mandate from we the people to secure the borders, enforce the law, deport the illegals, end sanctuary cities, end the war on Christianity, cut the taxes, cut the government, cut the regulations, end the war on American industry, end the war on coal gas & oil, bring back a growing economy, bring back manufacturing and jobs, and rebuild the military.

Unlike the GOPe, this is what real Americans want and what both candidates propose doing.

So let’s quit bickering, join forces, and make it happen.

Nope. Cruz ain’t eligible, he’s bought and paid for by Goldman Sachs, everybody who knows him hates him, and he’d be nothing but a drag in the general election. Trump can do better, much better.

“The trouble is, Cruz has never been anything but a Bush operative with the “Bush” label covered with duct tape. “

Flat out lies like that are apparently the best Trump supporters can come up with.

I prefer Cruz over Kasich, Rubio, Bush, etc.

However keep in mind Cruz is a career politician and not as pure as you may think.

Trump/Cruz to lock the nomination. After the WIN, put Cruz in, the hopefully, the still open SCOTUS seat. Then choose the new VP.

John Boehner backs Paul Ryan for president, calls Ted Cruz ‘Lucifer’ (washingtontimes.com)

Oh, well; that's only because he couldn't pronounce "Beelzebub."

Here's Breitbart's version:

I was very happy when Ted came around on TPP and H1B.

The COMPLEMENT of Trump/Cruz is FAR stronger than either of them alone.

Go through all the other threads on FR and look at all the Cruz supporters who said they will never vote for Trump no matter what.

Or he can finish out the primaries, see how the cards are dealt, and then he and Trump can decide what they're going to do come convention time.

The point of doing this now would be to secure the delegates needed, thus bullet-proofing the candidacy.

No. Trump made it clear how terrible he thinks Cruz is. What’s more, Cruz wouldn’t fit into a Trump administration where making deals with the establishment is a priority.

If Trump and Cruz should announce they are pooling their delegates together, it will very difficult for the GOPe to not give the nomination to Trump.

Why would Cruz do that? Because, if it looks like the GOPe is going to jump through these hoops to give the nomination to someone other than Cruz (which will be the case) then it would benefit Cruz to join forces with Trump and ensure Trump gets the nomination (in return for the VP slot).

Cruz really has nothing to lose under that scenario, and something to gain.

Unless, Cruz believes he can run again 4 years from now and win the presidency (which I don’t believe is the case, but what is important is what Cruz thinks).

Mr. Robinson, Ted Cruz has slandered Donald Trump in every way possible, so why should he ask this man to be his VP?

He has accused him of writing out the 2nd amendment from the Constitution, of secretly supporting abortion, of being in favor of Obamacare, of being “dangerous” to this country!

Between his “Dominion” theology, and Glenn Beck’s conspiratorial paranoia, Cruz has convinced himself that he is God’s man for the hour and that Trump is a cataclysmic threat to our very Republic. So I don’t see how Trump could ever forgive, much less trust someone who so blatantly lies about him.

At the beginning of this election, I would have agreed with you, but the more I saw of Ted Cruz, the more I realized that Donald Trump can do much better. At this point, Ted Cruz needs Donald Trump much more than Trump needing Cruz.

Cruz can run in 8 years. Reagan started running in 68.

I don’t think conservatives have any reason to trust Trump will do what he says on most of those issues and on some of them we wouldn’t want him to do what he says. Trump has enough good aspects to make him a better choice than any Democrat, but not to make him a better choice than Cruz in the primary.

Rubio just exited the race so we have some time to see how that affects polling. If it gives Cruz a significant bump up, Cruz should stay in.

I’d like to see Cruz try to cut a deal with Kasich to get him out of the race, but with a position short of V.P. and then take Trump on one-on-one. We may not need any more debates or negative ads. People have probably already made up their minds, but haven’t had a chance to express their vote yet in 20 or so states.

I’d rather see a convention fight than an outright Trump win. I think Cruz will likely come out the winner of a convention fight after perhaps making Rubio his V.P. (who can do fine in a role that doesn’t influence policy and just makes flowery speeches). If Trump’s delegates hold firm to stop that, then Cruz could be Trump’s V.P. to get that unity ticket. The media coverage of the convention could generate energy and excitement and big ratings for the speeches, which could trash Hillary, rather than the media getting to start 3 months early on going all-in against Trump, knowing that he’s the nominee.

Kasich is still a factor even if Cruz dropped and endorsed Trump. Although that would probably give Trump over 50% support, there is still the chance the GOPe goes all-in on Kasich with big money and that Trump finally makes a game-changing gaffe. Then Kasich could suddenly have as many delegates as Trump. I think we have to let the primary play out to the end. I see more upside than downside in that. And it still leaves open the possibility of Trump/Cruz if all else fails.

Cruz will be in the senate a long time after having won his state.

Trump will be dealing with Ted for many years.

I said this earlier today. I’m a Cruz supporter, but the anger that’s been building on both sides is just too much. After Kasich showed that he’s going to try to be a spoiler to prevent either Trump or Cruz from getting the nomination, I don’t think Cruz can win 1237, and if it goes contested at the convention, they will certainly deny both Trump AND Cruz and give it to someone else, like Ryan. I think the only way to bring everyone together is for Trump to reach out to Cruz and offer to let bygones be bygones and unify. It would be pretty much the perfect ticket. Cruz is strong in areas where Trump is weak, and he would be a good conservative voice in Trump’s inner circle. He’d be there to give guidance on Supreme Court nominations as well. This is the only way to prevent a third party split that would destroy the country by electing Hillary.
