Senator Ted Cruz of Texas said on Friday that Donald J. Trump bore responsibility for creating an environment that encourages violence at his events.
Speaking to reporters at a local Republican dinner outside Chicago, where Mr. Trump had just canceled a rally amid fierce confrontations between his supporters and protesters, Mr. Cruz began by saying that the protesters who took violence into their own hands were responsible for the episode.
But in any campaign, responsibility starts at the top, Mr. Cruz continued. And when you have a campaign that disrespects the voters, when you have a campaign that affirmatively encourages violence, when you have a campaign that is facing allegations of physical violence against members of the press, you create an environment that only encourages this sort of nasty discourse.
Mr. Cruz invoked the protests and violent police run-ins at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, and predicted that future skirmishes were likely.
When the candidate urges supporters to engage in physical violence, to punch people in the face, the predictable consequence of that is that it escalates, Mr. Cruz said. And today is unlikely to be the last such instance.

That facility was not given to him. He was renting it. It was HIS during the period of that contract. It was NOT public. His venues regularly had been infiltrated by violent people. He supported his legitimate guests defending themselves. Would you defend yourself or your guests?
Yes, all you UNIPARTY establishment types think this is real funny while real Americans will go about winning this election and taking out country back. Have fun voting for Clinton or sitting this one out.
I am br fled by it, frankly.
I’ve been called all sorts of names and accused of some crazy things for supporting Cruz.
They have the 1st amendment right to do so, and Trump supporters haven’t tied to stop mine, so we will survive.
I do have to wonder, the left used to says”Bush’s fault” for everything, now there are FReepers saying “Cruz’z fault” for everything.
Very strange for a conservative site.
The enemy is still the left.
So, after seeing your mumbled out garbage here, you’re still going to vote for Mr Trump, correct.
Br fled= baffled
iPhone fat fingers lol
Yes, the enemy is still the left. But I have to wonder... how many of these same people insulting and attacking us and Ted Cruz here at FR.... supposedly on behalf of Donald Trump.... are really on the opposite side of that left. Many of them sound exactly like the same leftists that I’ve been sparring with on the net for going on twenty years. Offhand, and from what I’ve read here lately.... maybe a scant few are not part of that crowd.
IATZ! another hysterical troll bites the dust
I’m not planning to vote in this election. Freepers have convinced me that there is no perfect candidate.
No one on FR owns guns anymore. Strangest thing happened. Tragic boating accidents swept the FReeper nation last month.
Punching a guy who disagrees with you is not self-defense. Trump was talking about his rage. And yeah, I think we all have rage. But we have to be smart about what we do with that rage, because the left would VERY MUCH like to create a Reichstag Fire that they can blame on the R’s.
The violent rhetoric needs to stop - on the part of everybody - and we need to get back on track to discuss the issues.
That’s what Cruz has said and I agree with him - for ALL our sakes.
Trump was commenting on a violent person in a building trump was paying for. “I paid for this microphone! “ Reagan.
I haven’t watched many but yesterday even I could tell he was getting angry at the continued interruptions and I don’t really blame him.
It might have been what led him to challenge them. I don’t think he realized how out of control those animals are!
Trump rally Chicago 3/11/2016
MUSLIMS PROTESTERS UNITED AGAINST TRUMP
I presume you think I’m a cultist, who you would like to see go, and by that I infer it’s my vote you want to cast out.
Ok, I’ll play. Who am I to vote for? Hillary or Bernie?
Ditto
You’re going to vote Trump if he is not the nominee?
Brilliant, that will show them. I think I’ll vote for myself, as everyone else lacks my exact ideology and has contradicted my views at some point.
Too bad strawmen don't get to vote.
The American and global communists are totally responsible. The GOP elitists and including Cruz have now joined them.
I guess all the people here on FR that were predicting something like this would happen are just smarter than he is.
How smart he is? I can't wait to see his next poll numbers.
