Rubio, Cruz, Kasich All Backed Obamatrade, Pretend They Didn’t at Miami Debate
breitbart.com ^ | March 10

At Thursday night’s Republican debate, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), John Kasich, and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) all parroted talking points about trade that do not seem to match their prior legislative records and statements on the critical issue.

While Donald Trump has articulated his vociferous opposition to President Barack Obama’s trade agenda in practically every GOP debate, tonight marked the first debate in which all of the other candidates were asked about their previous support for trade globalism.

...

Jake Tapper then asked Cruz: “You were a supporter of the Pacific trade deal [TPP], but after taking some heat from conservatives, you changed your position. Why should these voters who don’t like these trade deals trust that you will fight for them all the time and not just in election years?”

In response, Cruz said:

Actually that’s incorrect. There are two different agreements. There’s TPA and TPP. I opposed TPP and have always opposed TPP, which is what you asked about. And when it comes to trade, look, free trade, when we open up foreign markets, helps Americans. But we’re getting killed in international trade right now. And we’re getting killed because we have an administration that’s doesn’t look out for American workers and jobs are going overseas. We’re driving jobs overseas.

However, Cruz voted to fast-track the TPP by voting for TPA on the first go-around.

They should really stop with their uneducated meme. I have quite a few exceedingly intelligent uneducated friends. And that crap really pissed them off.

‘About six weeks ago some wag stated that all Trump’s supporters were dumb ...’

One of my favorite talk radio hosts said that Trump supporters are guided by emotion and not information. Soon that was contorted and parroted by many on this forum that ‘Trump supporters are immune to the facts.’

I countered that part of the Trump coalition is a group of ‘low-info partiots’, freshly unplugged from the Ruling Class Matrix [such as Facebook]. But some people conveniently forget what a coalition is.

If the USA was serious about eliminating the deficit then a 20% across the board import tariff would being in over $500B/yr. That would close the budget deficit lickity split. Tariffs also stop the off shoring of factories and promote repatriation of industry. Trump explained all that last night. He did a good job.

You're for a protective tariff? Interesting.

"My politics are short and sweet, like the old woman's dance. I am in favor of a national bank … in favor of the internal improvements system and a high protective tariff." ~ Lincoln, Campaign Speech, 1832.

Yes, tariffs are a good thing. Why do you think the Cheap Labor Express is having cow over Trump?

I believe in states rights even if the South had it wrong on tariffs. States rights supersedes everything.

One of the driving forces behind mistrust of Cruz on Trade is the way Heidi’s image has been torn apart.

I think that Heidi Cruz has taken a bad rap.

Heidi Cruz Wikipedia Bio

Her parents ... participated also in volunteer missionary dental work. Their two children (Scott and Heidi) accompanied them on numerous missionary trips, including to Nigeria and Kenya.

[1][10][11] [12] Her brother, Scott C. Nelson, today is an orthopedic surgeon and humanitarian.[13][14] Her Finnish-American maternal grandfather served for 22 years as a missionary physician and pastor in the former Belgian Congo.[15]

Cruz announced in fifth grade that she intended to attend Harvard Business School one day, her mother reflecting that she was unsure of how her daughter knew of the school and described her as a “slacker”.[16] Cruz’s political interest developed when she traveled to Washington with her parents at age 8,[16] and grew when she was age 12 and read an issue of Time magazine concerning the 1984 presidential election, while working at a bread stand.[17]

She graduated with a B.A. in Economics and International Relations from Claremont McKenna College in 1994. She was active in Claremont McKenna’s Republican group, but was asked to resign after spying on Bill Clinton’s campaign for reelection.[16] During her time at Claremont McKenna College, she studied abroad at the University of Strasbourg.[18] In 1995, she received a Masters of European Business from Université Libre de Bruxelles in Brussels, Belgium and in 2000, she graduated with a M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.[1][11][19]

I am feeling protectionist regarding one industry. We should impose oil tariffs if I had my way. Angle it to get gas up to $2 a gallon that way and cut back on Islamic oil and Hugo Chavez oil.

Cruz is part of the globalist cabal!!!!

He will destroy America with immigration and trade and spout his memorized words of the Constitution with the other.

If he is a Dominionist, they believe in one worldism I think.

This was an interview that Trumps senior advisor did for Breitbart News Saturday. This man worked with Sen. Sessions before joining Trumps team. It’s a little long but really worth the listen.

I think that maybe this subject is confusing to low information voters.

They may think that "TPA" and "TPP" are the same thing because they have three letters and both start with "T". I don't blame them. The distinction maybe hard to comprehend for someone that thinks the number 1237 is an "arbitrary" number in a field of 2472 total delegates.

We don’t need a protective tariff. We need someone who will reduce government, eliminate the IRS, reduce these massive regulations, fight the labor cartels, eliminate crony capitalism and make it more profitable for people to work instead of collecting government checks.

A protective tariff will just increase prices on the American consumer with no guarantee that jobs will return.

“In concept its a very good thing, both sides have wanted this.”

If both sides want it, is it really a good deal for America?

A 20% tariff would balance the budget. It would force repatriation of industry to the USA. It would take a couple of years, throw in tax incentives to build factories here, but in the long run the USA would be 100 times better off.

But if Cruz causes discord in the convention?....

What exactly does that mean? Tring to win over the delegate that were formerly pledged to the failed campaigns of Kasich, Rubio and Carson?

Do you understand how the delegate/convention process has been designed to work?

I’m still not sure what you mean.

Would you consider Cruz entering the convention with less delegates than Trump, attempting to convince the unbound Kasich, Rubio and Carson delegate to vote for him, to be “causing discord”?

Or would you see that as a normal part of the convention process when no candidate has a majority of the delegates bound to him?
