Cruz: I'm fine with contested convention
The Hill ^ | 03-09-2016 | Jesse Byrnes

Ted Cruz says he would have no problem with a contested convention over the summer in the event neither he nor Donald Trump secures enough delegates before then to lock up the Republican presidential nomination.

Trump suggested Wednesday morning on "Fox and Friends" that Cruz was making the statement "because he had such a bad night last night."

Assume Cruz beats Trump by one vote but is short of the absolute majority needed to win outright. What should happen? Should Trump do whatever it takes to win the nomination? Should he immediately concede the nomination to Cruz? After you answer that do the following: Assume Trump wins by that one vote instead of Cruz. Now what should happen.

Thanks for making the point well.

But there's too much objective thinking involved with your example. Most will never think it through.

A brokered convention means the Establishment wins. And Cruz is fine with that.

Cruz shows his true colors. FU Ted.

I had hoped that based on earlier comments, if it came to the last few states and he saw that by splitting the vote Trump would not reach 1237 he would suspend his campaign and ask his delegates to go for Trump, as to not let the GOP thwart the will of the voters.

I think he can still do that same thing at the convention if it comes to that. Cruz has already warned them about trying to steal the nomination from Trump. If he waits until the convention, he can make them show their hand and then leave them with a bloody stump.

Trump would be wise to offer the VP to Cruz. Race would already be wrapped up.

Levin will somehow defend him.

Levin is a fraud, just like El Rushbo...Can no longer stand hearing that guys voice. MO< Btw, you'll have pro D.C. party hacks right here defending Rafael. With the Bush's now part of the Cruz campaign, this will get down right embarrassing for them.

which is why Cruz will stay in . He wants that convention as that is the only way he thinks he can get the nomination, sad part is that the establishment is propping him now, but will stab him right in the back if Cruz gets what he wants.

In your opinion, what should be done if Trump doesn’t reach 1237 delegates?

Should the Republican party change the rules of the convention to prevent Cruz, Rubio, Kasich and Carson delegates from voting for anyone but Trump?

Seriously, have you though your position through at all?

“Well Cruz Fans....here is your candidate.”

Cruz is standing up for delegates deciding the nominee in the second, third, fourth round etc...if no one has secured the 1237 delegates needed (a contested convention) as opposed to a brokered convention where the delegates are beholden to vote for whom their state, county or district RNC committee decides they must vote for.

In a brokered convention, where RNC rules state delegates much vote for whom the RNC decides, Trump and Cruz lose.

In a contested convention where delegates are free to choose their candidate, Cruz and Trump can win and one of them probably would.

Well said.

But there’s a big problem with what you wrote: That’s WAAAAAYYYYYYY too many words for a typical Cruzbot to handle at once.

If Patton had a finer edge, we would have landed at Calais, as he wanted. Patton didn’t lead the invasion at Normandy because they used him as a distraction to the German Army. There is speculation that Patton’s invasion plan at Calais would have been the decisive blow and ended the war in Europe significantly faster, instead of playing politics and landing in Normandy. It would have been ugly, but Patton was a tactical genius.

Going to be a moot point soon. You think Ted will win the NY primary? Honestly? I don’t. Call me silly but it’s going to take a Beck miracle for Donald not to win his home state. It is what it is. The carpetbagging traitor ain’t got a prayer either. If she makes it to November. I’m serious starting to doubt she will.

It’s Ted’s only chance. He’s fine assuming the mantle of the nom even if the voters say no and the GOPe is helping him.

So anti-establishment - NOT!

The GOP plan is for no one to have the required number of delegates. That’s why Rubio and Kasich who have zero chance of the nomination hang around. It’s why Cruz will soon join that group.

In a normal election, Republicans would vote and when they see the likely nominee, they start to coalesce around that candidate. They don’t normally conspire to stop their own frontrunner. They’re killing us with this crap and Cruz is every bit as guilty as the GOP. In fact, he’s now joined forces with the GOP.

I am as tired of the GOP as anybody. Rational discussion is not part of the political debate any more.

How is it when an opinion Trump shared before he was a serious candidate is completely repudiated when , during a political campaign, he states the opposite. All campaigns are based on playing to the voters with lies and half truths. Trumps stance on eminent domain and federal ownership of property are disqualifying in my opinion. Fanboys always come back after elections and claim they were lied to. In this case they are willing dupes or useful somethings.

How about some rational discussion?

I don’t prefer any dog in this race and I will vote for the Republican nominee.

Did any of you knee jerkers even read ONE LINE of the post? It is 100% normal. Why do you think they have a minimum number to secure the nomination?

But if he does and THEN they do a brokered convention anyway

that would not be a brokered convention; that would be outright autocracy...
