Sanders wins surprise, narrow victory in Michigan (Clinton team "shaken")

MIAMI — Sen. Bernie Sanders pulled off a narrow upset in the Michigan primary Tuesday, buoying his challenge to Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton and giving him bragging rights to a big, diverse state outside his previous areas of strength.

Sanders’s come-from-behind victory was fueled by a relentless focus on his opposition to “disastrous” trade deals that have battered the manufacturing sector in Michigan. He will carry the same message to Ohio, North Carolina, Illinois and Missouri next week.

Clinton, meanwhile, cruised to an expected win in the primary in Mississippi, the latest in a series of contests in Southern states where she has bested Sanders largely on the strength of her appeal to African American voters.

Didn’t look too “narrow” or a “surprise” as he was ahead across the board and from early returns on.

The Democrat Party continues to give election victors only minimum delegates and their corrupt chosen the cream of the super delegates. Their voter’s votes don’t matter. Perhaps they should look at another party?

She is losing the constituencies she needs in the fall, similar in that respect to Cruz (who never had them); that’s what has her team worried.

“Dems will find some way to nominate someone else. “

I think they have Biden and Warren in the wings. No point on parading them out now because they wouldn’t get on any of the ballots. Wait until the convention, bring a Biden/Warren ticket in and you have 3 months to sell your message while the opposition has to pivot to redo ads.

It makes financial sense.

Would guess the narrow margin was due to those on the Democrat side who jumped over the line to vote for Trump, not because they believe in him, but because they think they are hurting the Republican side in the general election. Watched my teacher union niece and her friends plot about this some time ago on FB. I loved the hypocrisy of it, cheating because they think Trump is a cheater, but if they have other like minds, that could reduce Hillary’s primary voters enough.

Not like The Donald needed them, which is an even more hilarious result if the hypothesis stands...

Her public persona is a mean, angry scold who has contempt for everyone in the audience she’s addressing.

That's what her supporters find to be her best trait.

Hitlery is a liar, murderess, and awful.
Sanders is sincere, caring, and awful.

“So transparent you can see right through her”.

Good thing, you certainly wouldn’t be able to see around her.

This is a stunning loss due to the symbolism.
If she loses Ohio, she is going to need him as her VP.

You are quite the wordsmith.

Much admiration here for your effective economy of words.

if she’s losing states like Michigan

Wouldn't union-infested Michigan be more attracted to Sanders' rhetoric?

I question Sanders in the general election. His numbers look okay now in head-to-heads, but that’s because theres absolutely zero critique of his crazy Vermont socialist views. He can barely must a plurality in the party where the crazy leftist views are fully accepted among half those voters. There is not an appetite for Vermont views in a national race. His only plus is that he comes across as somewhat honest and not bound to the party. Other than that, I don’t see how he wouldn’t be a Mondale.

The country is different now with Obama twice elected, but I don’t know if a 70+ year old old-guy can garner the same broad support.
