. One of the more establishment Republicans the partys previous presidential nominee got up last week to denounce the man who has captured the imagination of anti-establishment voters in an effort to derail his candidacy. Did Mitt Romneys speech have any impact on voter decisions? Indeed it did, according to Morning Consult it made Donald Trumps voters more likely to continue supporting him:
Thirty-one percent of GOP voters said they were more likely to vote for Trump, while 20 percent said less likely, and 43 percent said it had no impact either way.
The poll, which was conducted March 4 through March 6, also finds that only five percent of Trump supporters said they are now less likely to vote for Trump. And, of those who voted for Romney in 2012, 30 percent said they were more likely to vote for Trump, compared to 20 percent who said less likely. Nearly half (48 percent) said it wouldnt affect their vote either way. The results are about what one should have expected. Mitt Romney is well liked within Republican circles, but hes not beloved and the voters backing Trump have particular disdain for the way he lost what they saw as a winnable election.
Both Trump and Romney have similar favorability numbers with Republican voters overall, 55/42 and 51/41, and among the general population, 35/61 and 35/51 respectively in both cases. Thats hardly a perch from which Romney can make moral judgments that will stick with voters, even his own; 48% of Romneys voters in 2012 didnt get moved at all by his speech, while 30% said it would make them more likely to vote for Trump. Only 20% got moved away from Trump.

Well of course it helped Trump! Wouldn’t have taken a genius to figure that out!
That’s why it was really a sneaky attack against Ted Cruz!
Maybe Trump paid him under the table to make the speech. Ya think?
1) Load shell
2) Aim at foot
3) Pull trigger
Repeat as necessary.
I predicted on these pages that Romney’s speech would boost Trumps numbers 5 to 7 points average across all polls. Can’t tell if that is true or not from this info, but either way, Romney v. Trump is a net plus for Trump.
Well... duh! When the establishment attacks an anti-establishment candidate expect the anti-establishment vote to be emboldened. Makes sense to me.

One must start questioning if the polling companies are part of the strategy against Trump. After the meeting yesterday among McConnell, Ryan, other GOP leaders, Tim Cook - Apple, Elon Musk, Larry Page - Google/Alphabet, etc it is clear Democrats are working among with the GOP to stop Trump.
Are the polls intentionally showing Trump with higher margins in order to enable the narrative that late deciders are breaking for xyz and that his support is falling. Is that why we have one or two polls close to the final margin but the rest with huge .Trump leads? Just a question to ponder.
So, if one follows logic, Trump only won one state, tied another, and only lost two because of Romney’s speech? Won, tied, and lost based on delegates, the only thing that matters.
Gosh, who could have predicted that?
It is almost as if Romney isn’t a respected and beloved Republican leader.
I believe Romney’s speech certainly had an effect in Louisiana and ME. The other big factor in LA was the size of Cruz’s victory in Texas.

I just heard on Herman Cain’s show that Romney made robo calls to 4 states yesterday. All supporting Rubio. Cain commented on the fact that he lied about supporting Cruz and Kasich to appear as an anti Trump candidate when he is really stealthily supporting the establishment candidate. Wonder what the Cruzers think about him now?
It doesn’t matter whether a poll shows a 20 point lead and the candidate wins by 1 point. A win is a win and in winner take all states, it’s a Yuge win.
Been wondering that myself. IMHO, the polls are being manipulated.
I'm off to vote in the ID primary.
Backfire central!
Did anyone else hear Romney say he would run if drafted? After all, he’d have to do it for his ‘country’.
For his COUNTRY? What?! It’s not for your ‘country’, Mitt. It’s for yourself & a lousy bunch of political hacks.
It’s positively bone chilling to think he might actually believe what he says.
