Republican front-runner Donald Trump on Thursday said he would rip up all existing free trade agreements if he wins the White House.
Trump argued that he would greatly improve U.S. relationships with nations such as Mexico and China while lowering trade deficits.
"Im going to rip up those trade deals and were going to make really good ones, he said during a campaign stop in Portland, Maine.
He lashed out at 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney for saying that a Trump presidency would ruin free trade for the United States.
Ruin free trade? Trump said. "If Im losing $505 billion with China, if Im losing $58 billion a year with Mexico, in terms of deficit, why do I want that kind of trade for anyway," Trump said.
"Ruin it? Who needs that kind of trade, seriously who needs that kind of trade, Trump said.
Earlier in the day, Romney called Trump a fraud and ripped him for his lack of policy proposals.
The trade deficit with China last year soared to $365.7 billion, well below Trump's $505 billion, and was $58.3 billion with Mexico, according to Commerce Department figures.
We will actually have better relationships with Mexico and better relationships with China, theyll respect us, Trump said.
They dont respect us now. They think were the dumbest people on earth led by the worlds dumbest people," he said.

Nope. But the treaties have provisions for violations by the other side (such as dumping, illegal government subsidies, etc.) and the President typically has the authority to find the misconduct has occurred and impose sanctions of some sort (depends upon the treaty).
The absolute correct position to take. Globalists are crapping their pants because they know that unlike Cruz, Trump means what he says about immigration and trade. People have figured out that Cruz is just a stealth candidate for the globalists/new world order. Cuban, Canadian, what’s up? Before that we’ve had Kenyan, Indonesian. The globalists are grabbing at straws to find candidates who have the least allegiance to the USA.
Do you care if does...or even if that should be a consideration?
Those Trade deals are not treaties. The United States is not bound to them.
Past POTUS proposed and Congress passed these deals on simple majority votes...NAFTA, all since WWII.
If the Executive chooses not to honor or enforce them, Congress can only Impeach, or defund his actions.
But if Trump does somehow managed to win, the political dynamics will be to essentially do it his way.
And, even without Congressional action, a POTUS has enormous power over every regulatory and enforcement agency that Congress cannot influence.
Yes, a POTUS could, effectively, "tear up" all those deals. They're no different than any other simple law.
You see, China will do what Trump says, because he no’s people. There good people, to. An if they don’t, there going to be reel sorry. Cause we won’t share are electrolytes with them.

Yes. All Trump needs to do is invoke the "Obama Doctrine," where the President can act unilaterally. This doctrine was approved with overwhelming support by the Republican controlled congress.
So ripping up existing trade agreements with China and Mexico is going to magically improve relationships with China and Mexico? Is the President even allowed to just rip up trade agreements? Are we talking common sense and reality here or are we just spewing whatever crap will whip the crowd into a frenzy?

probably have a better chance if we had a GOP Congress.. but we know that will never happen.. oh wait...
Being President isn't the same as running a company. We have these little things called "limited government" and "separation of powers."
Inasmuch as these trade agreements have been disastrous, to undo NAFTA, and GATT he'll have to get legislation. He can't legally just 'tear them up.'
“Im waiting for a chicken in every pot...”
Well, the Uniparty ALMOST got that one right, so far: there sure are a lot of panty-waisted chickens on pot running around.
Wow. He thinks he’s running to be King Donald the First.
these are the times I LOVE trump.
rest of the time I hate him.
50/50, or 60/40 in favor maybe. 70/30 love him on a good day.
NEVER indifferent or I just like him lol.
he’s that kind of guy
You know what MFN means, right? It means China uses our tariff schedule. It is not a trade “agreement.”
Who has the better relationship with their kids - the parents that allow the kids to walk over them or the ones who insist the kids act right and treat them as young adults, insisting on responsible actions, instead of being so pliable and wishy-washy?
Somehow I don't think that China and Mexico will react well to being treated like our children.
The current trade framework was negotiated after the cold war to end war by redistributing wealth and industry from wealthy nations like the US, to poor nations like India, Mexico and China.
The global liberal elite believe poverty causes war. These trade agreements, devised by the globalists are not stupid, they are evil. They are socially and economically engineering us into the Detroit of the globe - on purpose.
And how is that going to greatly improve relations with Mexico and China?
I'm amazed the people on this forum who used to be strong on constitutional principles like separation of powers who think Trump can unilaterally rip up trade agreements...
Even Obama makes a head fakes when asking Congress to pass trade deals...
Trump just rips them up and then actually says relationships will be better..

Reading this - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permanent_normal_trade_relations - it seems every country in the world except for Cuba and North Korea has this “most favored nation” status, that is called “permanent normal trade relations” now.
Somehow I don't care.
