On "Morning Joe" Tuesday morning, host Mika Brzezinski threw out an interesting theory: Donald Trump and Marco Rubio are playing nice with one another â and savaging Ted Cruz â because a backroom deal has been cut between the two to form a ticket with Trump as the presidential nominee and the Florida senator as the second in command.
I don't think that deal has been cut. But Brzezinski's speculation did get me to thinking about whom Trump might pick as his vice president. (For those of you who think such speculation is premature, I say (1) it sort of is and (2) read this.)

Trump/Pirro!

If Trump doesn’t pick Cruz, then he will not get my vote. I can vote the rest of the ballot without having to vote for Trump.
And .. think about it .. Cruz is the only Constitutional Scholar who will be able to keep Trump out of trouble - by writing the best legislation to put forth the Agenda that Trump keeps saying he wants to do. Without a person who can help Trump use the right language, I can never vote for Rubio .. because Rubio is a back-stabber and he has continued to lie about how he voted/supported the Gang of Eight legislation.
The last thing Trump needs is a back-stabber with knowledge of what Trump is planning to do.
Where in the constitution does it say the president and VP cannot be from the same state? I never heard that before. I thought the reason for not doing this, is because it is not good strategy vote-wise, as the candidates usually carry their home states.
I’d like to see Judge Janice Rogers Brown on the Supreme Court.
He needs to see what he is up against.
Cruz would make sure those 10+million or so conservatives that have reservations about Don-Don don't stay home like the 4 million that did over the Mormon Romney.
No establishment candidates need apply. Rubio has to much of the smell of Bush on him.....
Just don't......
I think he has, in fact, said that was his plan. "We don't need two of me."
Also, I think he's indicated that he would be looking in a battleground state.
Rubio fits the bill, and as has been pointed out, would be a sop to the establishment.
Cruz is an absolute no-go. Trump's not going to suddenly excuse the NBC issue, and he's not going to choose someone he's tagged as "liar."
No President wants to have to !ook over his shoulder for a knife in the back. It won’t be Rubio.
Anyone considering Rubio does not know the lack of regard by Floridians over his Gang of Eight surrender. Not what they worked so hard to elect!!!!
Trump can take Florida without him...we’ll see during our primary.
I doubt Donald would pick anyone ineligible to step up to Pres, if needed.
ALL these comments about marco or cruz would be good VP are wasted space since it’s been discussed on FR repeatedly that they both are likely not truly constitutionally eligible.
1) He's got a generally likable personality
2) He'll help Trump win Ohio
3) He's got executive government experience
You forgot:
4) His father was a mailman.
Is she eligible?
Hillary?
I agree. Nevertheless, this is a fun game we get to play every election, so let's have at it!
It's the old dichotomy between what the candidate needs in order to be elected and what he or she needs to run the country. Those are two very different objectives, and help to explain why Reagan ended up with Bush I, for example, or Kennedy with Johnson.
First, to get elected, it's helpful to have a VP pick that can help win a major demographic, a major state usually but not always, sometimes an entire region, sometimes another demographic entirely such as women or minorities. For this reason I don't think Giuliani is high in the running just because he's from New York. Can Ted Cruz deliver Texas? Maybe, maybe not. What about big swing states such as Florida (Scott, Bush) or Ohio (Kasich)? Is California even a possibility? Those are big prizes. They're awfully tempting.
If you make the decision based on that, though, are you going to get the sort of chief of staff that the actual job requires? Cheney delivered Wyoming to Bush II, and you can't actually find a state with fewer electoral votes, but he was a superb chief of staff. Agnew for Nixon. A President such as 0bama might well provide a chief of staff another way, but part of the monumental incompetence his cabinets have revealed are due in part, IMHO, to his Vice President not filling that function. The system can work, and when it doesn't there's a price to pay.
So, who for Trump? Anyone he damn well pleases. He has no real obligation to set up an heir apparent, a third criteria of office (neither does Sanders and for the same reason), but I'd still like to see Cruz. I just happen to like the guy and see him as a better long-term anchor for the party. YMMV.
The visual is sharp - Sarah wagging her finger in the presence of the Rube (as if she were scolding the little boy). Almost anyone but Rube. At one time, it would have been Cruz. That bridge burned.
Palin, why would she want it- she has had enough and loves Alaska. She might not wish to uproot her family and take them through the fun house a second time.
Because it is almost certain it will not be Cruz - will await till his decision is made and announced. If the impossible should happen, would be pleased as punch.
As long as the VP name should not be any GOP-e, is all that is asked. Newt, Sessions, Allen West, Rudy - these men are not members of the GOP elites.
It is wildeyed speculation that being Trump VP would turn out to be anything honorable. If most non-Trumpbot’s read on Trump is even partially right, his will be a one termer due to a massive conservative political revolt. Yes, even by those now Super Trumpbots!
At the very best Trump will do little more than make some “feel good” and make deals across the aisle which end up kicking the can on down the road for a real conservative to clean up the mess, or a progressive to finally kill the Golden Goose.
So does Obama, or did.........................
Rubio is no better on NBC issue. Anchor baby of non citizen parents...(until years later) only thing to research is unusual Cuban immigration rules at the time. I have not seen this done.
If the purpose of NBC is to get total US allegiance then maybe neither qualify...in my tiny mind.
Good. If the rest of the Trumpsters follow suit, we won't have to listen to 20 posts a day from your side saying how Cruz needs to "clear up" the natural born "problem" so he can become a loyal bootlicker for your guy.
OH HOW I HOPE, YOU ARE WRONG!
