Ted Cruz Has Two Big Problems
National Review ^

72 percent.

That's the number of Republican voters in South Carolina's primary that identified as evangelical or born-again Christians, according to exit polling. That's an eye-popping, record-shattering figure: It was 65 percent in South Carolina's 2012 GOP primary, and 60 percent in 2008.

With three-quarters of the electorate identifying as evangelical, it was shaping up as a great night for Ted Cruz, who launched his campaign at Liberty University and has boasted of building a "firewall" to dominate the March 1 southern states because of their ultra-conservative, religious composition. South Carolina represented the first test of that theory.

Cruz failed. Among South Carolina's evangelical Republican voters, Trump won 33 percent, Cruz won 27 percent, and Rubio won 22 percent. And while Cruz did carry the 38 percent of "very conservative" voters in the state, it wasn't enough to finish anywhere close to Trump. Nor was it enough to beat Rubio, whom he finished roughly 1,000 votes behind.

This spells trouble for Cruz on Super Tuesday. He remains better-organized than any other candidate across the south (which should make a difference, considering both Trump and Rubio benefited from having impressive field operations in South Carolina). But there's no question Cruz's inability to carry the evangelical vote here portends poorly for him in states of similar ideological and demographic makeup.

That's a big problem for Cruz on March 1. But he faces even bigger challenges beyond then. Both Trump and Rubio performed evenly with non-evangelicals in South Carolina: Trump took 30 percent, and Rubio took 22 percent. But Cruz saw a significant drop-off, winning just 13 percent of that group. This echoes Cruz's performance in Iowa (33 percent with evangelicals, 19 percent with non-evangelicals) and New Hampshire (24 percent with evangelicals, 8 percent with non-evangelicals).

Nicely stated. Any victor, if it serves His purpose. Can any outcome be better than that?

Southerners don’t like to be BS’d. After what happened in Mississippi, they don’t like the GOP. They don’t like dirty tricks, and they don’t like being lied to.

I’m not an Evangelical, I’m a very conservative Catholic. I don’t like people using Jesus to get votes, Christians, Evangelical or Catholics, don’t either. He’s a Dominionist, which is a cult- like theology, which by the way, is why he and Beck get along so well.

Cruz - when conflicts arise between Cuba

Not to mention if things were to get ugly between the US and Canada.

Rubio will be the nominee

If he is, he'll set a precedent, then a million other anchor babies will be running next time....from both sides.

Santorum was also a national security expert and knew what he was talking about about defending America. Cruz ain’t got a clue about about national security.

Cruz is a George W. Bush insider. He worked for him for years. How in the world he convinces anyone he’s an outsider is beyond me. He was one of the advisors to Bush when little George was trying to get amnesty passed.

If Rubio gets out, Cruz wins.
If Trump gets out, Cruz Wins.
If Cruz gets out, Trump wins.

Rubio is the spoiler candidate.

Carson did not campaign in NH and SC, and no campaign events were listed on his official campaign website, for anywhere. And he didn’t campaign even after the “correction” saying that he WAS going to campaign. If doing nothing is not “suspending campaigning”, then what WOULD be?

To be truthful, I don’t know whether Carson ever even started back up campaigning after he suspended his campaign to deal with the guy on his team who died in a car crash.

Are you really this stupid? He was the first one to put out a tax reform paper. Educate yourself before opening your mouth and spewing stupidity.

So, what’s the problem? That’s how he sees it and a good tree doesn’t bear bad fruit and lies and deceit are bad fruits. Whether Cruz is a Christian or not is between him and God, but, it’s hard to reconcile lying with his Christian faith. Thou shalt not bear false witness against they neighbor comes to mind. Cruz has some nasty people working for him and listening to Glenn Beck - is unconscionable.

What was Cruz’s “lie” regarding Ben Carson? If you can’t produce it, then saying that he did it is itself a lie, and your hand pointing at Cruz as the liar has 4 fingers pointing right back at you.

Do you have any idea what Beck has been through? I do think he’s somewhat unhinged right now but do you have any idea what got him there? I can’t listen much to Glenn Beck because of his mockery of Obama’s eligibility issue - which he started when some people tried to force him to talk about it on-air when he had already been threatened that his career would be over and his family’s lives were questionable if he allowed anything on air about it. But Glenn Beck was exposing Obama’s relationship with the Islamists and communists who committed the crimes to carry out the coup of 2008 - until Fox wouldn’t protect his secretary from the daily threats and intimidation to try to silence Beck. I think Beck finally gave up on exposing the communist-Islamist in the White House when reporters wrote up stories about our intelligence community removing the “known terrorist” classification from the Boston Marathon’s “Saudi person of interest”, whom Michelle Obama visited in the hospital and who - after being quickly deported to keep the Boston Police Dept from executing justice - showed up 3 months later at a White HOuse 4th of July party “for the military”... and the media heads would not allow any of the stories to run. Beck was ridiculed for not breaking the story after saying it NEEDED to come from the MSM. I think Beck gave up after that.

If Cruz has even a tenth of the information that Beck exposed about Obama and how we’ve gotten where we’re at, then voters are totally stupid to reject him because of his relationship with Beck and Beck’s endorsement of him. They’re only showing their own ignorance - and yes, I include the many Freepers who totally forget the information that Beck has worked hard to get out to the public in order to save the Republic.

What the Carson team has done now - claiming that Cruz broke confidence by leaking the existence of their “closet meeting” when they know that the ONLY media report was from the Daily Beast guy that THEY gave their juicy gossip to - is despicable. That is a genuine, deliberate lie intended to libel Cruz. Totally different ballgame than reporting what had already been reported on CNN, and that turned out to be true. Carson should have heard the very reminder he wanted to preach to Cruz: “By their fruits you will know them.”

I liked Carson. Not any more.

Doing nothing is doing nothing.

That is precisely what Ted Cruz should have done regarding Carson.

Cruz is not a news reporter, and he is by no means a neutral observer.

In this situation, he clearly behaved as an opportunist.

It is up to Carson to speak for his campaign. It isn’t up to Ted Cruz.

Cruz took the action that he took in order to benefit himself.

Now I have no idea if doing this gained him any votes or cost him any votes in Iowa or anywhere else, but that is my honest assessment of what transpired in Iowa.

I believe they reported it was somewhere around 40% who said he ran the dirtiest campaign and around 68% voted for someone else...so maybe a small percentage voted for him anyway—definitely not everyone who said that though.

That’s what Facebook is for...I remember from my sophomore year taking an AP course (ELPS) and the class was to vote on gun control by standing on one side of the classroom or the other. I found myself alone on one side standing against it with the rest of my class on the other standing for it.
