Draft-dodger Donald Trump once said that the danger he faced from getting sexually transmitted diseases was his own âpersonal Vietnam.â In a 1997 interview with shock jock Howard Stern, Trump talked about how he had been âluckyâ not to have contracted diseases when he was sleeping around. âIâve been so lucky in terms of that whole world. It is a dangerous world out there. Itâs scary, like Vietnam. Sort of like the Vietnam-era,â Trump said in a video that resurfaced Tuesday on Buzzfeed, âIt is my personal Vietnam. I feel like a great and very brave soldier.â
He has got a rabid following and a fairly rabid opposition
But, I am making amends (or trying) every day.
Really, that's all one can ask of another.
Trump got at least four deferments, one for a slight heel spur. He dodged venereal disease bullet what a hero. /sarcasm The more I see of this idiot the more I dislike him.
Was he afraid that if he lived here in the states that he might be drafted?
*************
Not defending Rafael, but Rafael wasn’t a US citizen at that time? Were non citizens
being drafted? Took him until 2005 to decide he needed US citizenship. Wonder if Edward
was hinting about running for President at that time and maybe suggested that papa become a citizen.
YES!!!! Best post on this entire topic!!!
“All the men you mentioned repented. Each and every one. If you can show me where Mr. Trump has repented, I could be persuaded. I have not heard it. I have heard him belittle Dr. Carsonâs conversion to Christ.”
So everyone who repents to Christ needs to make sure you make note of it? Are you the Gatekeeper? It’s none of your business.
“But, I am making amends (or trying) every day.
Really, that’s all one can ask of another.”
Right there with you!
Nope, not at all. But when someone starts throwing around lies about draft dodging maybe everything should be brought to light. When I served I witnessed many draftees in their late 20’s.
Here is his draft status during the era.

My comment was to a poster who compared Mr. Trump to King David. All we’re doing is saying the two are not the same. You’ve taken it out of context
I agree, it is an insult. I didn’t sign up for the military during the Viet Nam war. I didn’t like draft dodgers, either. Two friends joined the Army(which meant you served an extra year)in hopes of getting the MOS and avoiding Viet Nam with the duty station of their choice. They advised me to sign up for an extra year. I declined. As bad as the prospect of being sent into a no-win war was, I decided to take my chances with the draft and a year less than these guys. I got drafted and went to Viet Nam, but got out a year earlier than these guys, who went to Viet Nam anyway. Its no less patriotic being drafted than it is in joining. I served, but with the realization that we servicemen were being betrayed by a government that had no intention of winning the war.
Yes, non citizens were drafted, so were puerto ricans and exiled cubans living here.
So when can we trust what he says? I haven't figured out which words are true and which are in jest or misunderstandings. Some of the posters on this site seem to have a special Trump decoder ring to know which of his words and actions are true and which are to be brushed off.
I thought Lindsay Graham, also no longer a candidate, served in the Air Force.
They repented AFTER God elevated them, Katie. Don’t you see that? (Except for Paul who was struck down by God until he repented.)
God is in the process of elevating this man.
Or Mrs. Clinton.
What is God’s reason for doing so?
Don’t feel bad. I have trouble figuring out sarcasm, too.
Your confidence you your ability to know what he was thinking is impressive.
If given a choice between either going back to the A Shau Valley or a tryst with a syphilitic skank, I too would choose a tryst with a syphilitic skank.
“I served, but with the realization that we servicemen were being betrayed by a government that had no intention of winning the war.”
Sounds about right, felt the same way especially about the party that got us there.
Yes. You are correct. My bad. Mea Culpa. Apparently he served as a reserve duty lawyer released from service in 1989.
