The circumstances and chaos surrounding the death of U.S. Supreme Justice Antonin Scalia at a Texas ranch has sparked many conspiracy theories.
Scalia was found dead in his bed Saturday morning at the luxury West Texas ranch. He was 79. Officials say he died of natural causes. An autopsy will not be conducted and police say there were no signs of foul play.
According to the Washington Post, the hours after Scalia's death were filled with "chaos, confusion and conflicting reports."
Scalia is survived by his wife, Maureen Scalia, his nine children and several grandchildren.
While the conspiracy theories are, as usual, outlandish and do not appear to have any merit, they have spread quickly on social media.
Here's what conspiracy theorists are asking:
1. One of the major red flags for conspiracy theorists about Scalia's death is that he was found with a pillow over his head, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Scalia had gone to bed Friday night after dinner with friends, telling them he wasn't feeling well. After not coming to breakfast, the justice was found dead.
"We discovered the judge in bed, a pillow over his head. His bed clothes were unwrinkled," Houston businessman John Poindexter, the owner of the ranch where Scalia was staying, told the Express-News. "He was lying very restfully. It looked like he had not quite awakened from a nap."
While it is not uncommon for people to sleep with a pillow covering their head, it has raised questions on social media.
2. Why Was His Cause of Death Declared by Phone?
Another question raised about Scalia's death surrounds why he was declared dead of natural causes over the phone. The Washington Post provides an answer.
Authorities were not able to find a justice of the peace who could get to the remote ranch where Scalia died. When Presidio County Judge Cinderela Guevara was reached by phone, she said she was assured by police there were no signs of foul play and made the declaration without seeing the body, as allowed by law, the Post reports. Guevara said she also spoke to Scalia's physician, who said he was suffering from chronic conditions.
"He was having health issues," Guevera told the Post. "It wasn't a heart attack. He died of natural causes."
But even other officials are questioning Guevara's decision.
"If it had been me .â.â. I would want to know," Juanita Bishop, a justice of the peace in Presidio, told the Post.
3. Why Did Local Officials & His Family Decline to Have an Autopsy Conducted?
An autopsy is not planned for Scalia, who was taken from the ranch to a funeral home and is expected to be transported back to Washington, D.C. this week.
That has also raised concerns among conspiracy theorists. Alex Jones posted a video to YouTube about the issue.
"Maybe he did die of natural causes," Jones said. "But then they tell you right away, 'no foul play,' don't investigate, nothing to see here, that's a big tell-tale sign. Why would we not question, why would we not at least say, 'there will be an investigation and the coroner should let us know in a few weeks.' Because in any other death, they always say 'it takes a few weeks.'"
4. Did Obama Have Scalia Killed So He Could Fill His Supreme Court Seat?
The main person who could have been behind Scalia's death is President Obama, though Alex Jones and others have mentioned the Clinton family as well.
The theory is that Obama had Scalia killed so that he could fill his Supreme Court seat before he leaves office, though it appears it will not be easy for him to do that as the GOP-controlled House and Senate seem prepared to challenge any nomination. Another theory is that Obama's administration was concerned about an upcoming ruling by the Supreme Court and wanted to take Scalia out of the picture.
Within hours of Scalia's death, tweets began to claim he was murdered:

5. Was He About to Confess the Bush Family's Role in 9/11?
One theory that is also being raised is that Scalia was killed by the Bush family because he was about to confess the Bush's role in the 9/11 attacks.
The Abreu Report writes, "According to a source, Justice Scalia was going to confess to involvement by the Bush family in the attacks of September the 11th. Scalia's death marks a stunning development in the 15-year saga that has become the War on Terror, but one that will likely be buried by elements within the American military-industrial complex."
The website says Scalia "chose the wrong state to visit," referencing the Bush family's influence in Texas.
So the murderer leaves the pillow over his head? Uh huh.
I have to agree with the first comment on this article:
I think that whenever a person who is so important to the country dies there should always be an autopsy. Just as a matter of national security. I am not comfortable with the circumstances surrounding his death. It very well could be natural causes but how can we be sure without an examination?
I agree about the pillow, but the Senate does not have to capitulate to Democrats and Obama regarding their role in the nomination process.
It is an election year and this nomination is all on the Senates’s back.
Don’t pass anyone and let the new President pick one.
The people who control Obama killed him.
I wish the family would make a statement about the timeline of events. This is ridiculous
RE: I agree about the pillow,
Post #2 however, asks a good question -— why would someone who strangled him with a pillow leave the pillow over his head?
Whoever did that (if anyone really did it ) must have been an amateur.
I agree. Someone so important should have an autopsy, just to clear all doubt, and hope they aren’t susceptible to a finding that suits those who may be suited.

Somehow the immediate significance of Justice Scalia’s untimely departure does not seem to have been grasped by very many people here.
First Scenario:
Obama makes some type of questionable “recess” appointment to fill the “important spot”. The Republicans don’t put up a big fight because it will “make them look bad” and the appointment will be null and void at the end of the year anyway. How much damage can an extra liberal on the court do in the next few months... the conservatives will block the important stuff anyway.
Except for one small issue that they very well may be asked to make a quick decision on... Ted Cruz’s eligibility. It is going to be litigated... mark my words on that. With a 5 to 4 advantage for conservatives on the court... Ted might have sailed through. How do you think it is going to go for Ted with a liberal advantage?
2nd scenario:
Obama doesn’t get away with a temporary appointment the Supreme Court is now at a 4 to 4 deadlock which means that if one of the lower liberal leaning appeals court rules against Ted Cruz... Supreme Court is likely to be deadlocked, the lower courts opinion will then stand.
Justice Scalia’s death likely means that Ted Cruz’s presidential aspirations have just hit an insurmountable judicial road block. That probably will not sink in until a case is found to have standing and a judge somewhere makes a ruling... Then the probable sequence of events will hit home and people will be screaming to high heaven.
Why not - it immediately convince you it couldn't be murder. If that's the goal, it worked perfectly.
If you believe Roberts is being blackmailed..not that far fetched to believe someone would leave a calling card.
I don’t know what to think about the pillow. Poindexter did not need to reveal that info. Maybe he wanted to get people riled up.
Yes sending a message to the other Jurists.
Supposedly what they have on Roberts is that his adopted kids weren’t adopted legally. He could lose them. There are also suspicions Roberte is a friend of Dorothy.
I am not clicking with the last part?? Dorothy? Does that mean gay?
Sending a message to everyone.
If the Progressives make a massive power grab, they just sent a message:
1) We can kill people. Even a justice on the Supreme Court. Cross us, and you are dead.
2) People will talk. They will suspect. They will say, "I think that guy was murdered."
3) And we don't care. We will get away with it. We are untouchable. We will even leave the pillow in place. So that you know that we have no fear.
“One theory that is also being raised is that Scalia was killed by the Bush family because he was about to confess the Bush’s role in the 9/11 attacks.”
Ok, to anyone who believes this: Look up the nearest mental institution in the phone book, and have a friend drive you there.
I’m not a CSI technician...but I watch a lot of TV. :)
I believe suffocation causes unique blood spots in the eyes, and even something happens to the fingernails. It sounds like he had none of these, and all the police found was a 79 y/o man who died in his sleep.
