A Democratic state Senate candidate and Barnstable County commissioner who posted on social media that she felt âhappyâ about Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scaliaâs death has apologized, while the Bay State Republican Party blasted her words as âdisgraceful.â
Sheila Lyons, running for a Cape and Islands Senate seat, acknowledged yesterday that as news of Scaliaâs death broke Saturday night, she wrote on Facebook: âI know itâs disrespectful to feel happy but Justice Scalia orchestrated tremendous power to benefit the powerful who have controlled the message to the American people.â
Lyons said yesterday, âWhen youâre going to make a public statement, one must think.
âIt was a reminder for me, and it should be for everyone and itâs a reminder that I will now keep,â Lyons said. âHappy was not a good choice of words. Happy implies a state of well-being and euphoria. Thatâs not what I felt when I read that Justice Scalia died.â
She has since deleted the post and written an apology, which said in part, âItâs always unfortunate when someone dies suddenly ... I am sorry to hear of his passing.â Lyons also called Scalia an âaccomplished and brilliant scholar,â but added, âI disagreed with his opinions, his ideology. Iâm not saying heâs a bad man. Iâm just relieved heâs no longer serving on the bench.â
MassGOP spokesman Terry MacCormack said in a statement, âCommissioner Lyonsâ comments that degraded the life and work of a longtime public servant within moments of his death were truly disgraceful. The people of Cape Cod deserve public officials with an even temperament and respect for civil discourse, which Commissioner Lyons clearly seems to lack given this unfortunate episode.â
When asked if her post contributed to the much-decried political incivility in American politics, Lyons said sheâs hoping her apology can show sheâs civil.
âIâm not afraid to say, âYes, I was wrong,âââ she said. âI donât think thatâs weak. Hopefully, it will be an example that Iâm not going to dig my heels in.â
>>Lyons said yesterday “When you’re going to make a public statement, one must think.”
Good to see she feels she’s qualified for office
Well, well, well....
Scalia was the most hated man by the commie lib left in this country. There is no doubt his remains should be autopsied to make sure he wasn’t the victim of foul play.
Otherwise one does not need to think? Only feel? A good liberal for you.
Well, not quite. It's the thought that counts and the disrespect these folks have for anything other than their verion of what is politically correct is legion.
The Left hates everyone who doesn’t march in locked step with them
Her later statement was really no better; she just doesn’t know when or how to shut up. What a disgusting woman. Anyone who votes for her deserves her special brand of evil/brainlessness.
Progressives are nothing but a bunch of regressive, hateful hypocrites.
I’m glad the Cape is full if illegals and homeless people. Rot in hell.
The Left hates everyone who doesnât march in locked step with them
Which is a huge contrast to Scalia who liked probably most everyone even if they disagreed with him. The left are the most intolerant on the planet.
BS she was orgasmic and got called on it.
That the current Left reflexively calls for the death of their opponents, and celebrates the death of those with whom they disagree, is instructive.
The only “compromise” they will accept is total capitulation and, given the chance, they will round-up those of us who challenge their world view and ship us off to be re-educated, if not eradicated.
Their heroes, Andrew Jackson and FDR, have already made down-payments on this solution.
Meanwhile, Republican majorities in Washington stand around with their thumbs up their rectums—Either too afraid to do anything, or complicit.
The Tree of Liberty grows thirstier with each passing day.
The day John Mccain dies I will have to remove myself from posting on FR for the day or perhaps the week.
One real stupid broad!!
The face of Democratic massholes. Even worse is that the majority of her electorate doubtless agrees with her actions (NOT the apology.) Some people are alive only because it's against the law to kill them.
According to the report, Commissioner Lyons told Haley that she had two or three glasses of wine. Her Breathalyzer test results were .19, .15 and .20 â while the stateâs legal blood alcohol limit for driving is .08.
I'd settle for his getting kicked out of office - along with a long list of other leftists and corrupt miscreants who've been swilling at the public trough far too long.
I would settle for that , too, but I am convinced the Devil is keeping him in office until they day he dies. He will probably be the oldest ever living Senator.
