When the shocking news of Justice Antonin Scalia's passing hit Saturday night, my mind raced back to a White House Correspondents Association dinner seven years ago, when we were seated together.
We bantered about my hometown of Chicago, where he had taught law before ascending to the bench. He opined on wine and music and generally lived up to his reputation as a man who told and enjoyed a good story.

And, of course. the only guy who could say it is not so is dead.
Baloney. Axelrod is a lying P.O.S.!
Oh screw you, Axlerod. What a filthy lie to dump on Scalia's body while it's still warm.
You have truly lived up to your soulless reputation with this one, David.
Can anyone summarize? That CNN site crashes my ancient iPad.
Barf, wretch, vomit...
What an interesting story to come out, the day after the only person who could refute it dies.
Oops! I think Talisker just did.
I don’t need to follow the link to learn what this headline is luring me to. Knowing it comes from David Axelrod eliminates an possible plausibility.
Well, we do know they were friends and we also know that Scalia was close with Ginsburg.
Scalia knew that Obama would never nominate a Conservative, so the best he could hope for was someone who was smart.
Axelrod trying to be relevant. I want someone close to Scalia to confirm it before I believe it.
Scalia's advice to Axelrod: "Have Obama nominate Elena Kagen to the Supreme Court."
Uh huh.
Sure, David, Sure.
Sure.....
Libtards are saying that Scalia liked the company of the lesbian colleague.
Thank you, sagar.
Just when you think the ‘Rats can’t sink any lower.
How many cases have Kagen and Scalia agreed on?
I believe it. Basically, Scalia said “if you’re going to send us a liberal, at least send us a smart one.” I.e., don’t send us an idiot like Sotomayor.
Remember, this was when Larry Tribe wrote the letter to Obama that said the same thing, p.s. may I have a job.
There was discussion about their friendship last night on TV. Probably on ‘fox as that is all I had on after the debate. It mentioned their hunting together and his admiration for her intellect. I forgot who said it -— or even if it was a direct quite from the Justice when there were videos of his comments.
