Laws vary...a bit...from state to state but,in essence,a death is only reported to the medical examiner when there's reason to believe that that death is from anything other than natural causes.
Scalia was in the “croaking zone” of course but there was a report he was found with a pillow over his head, so an autopsy would be needed to dispel any rumors of foul play.
His family might understand the sort of trouble they could buy by getting involved.
A competent autopsy could minimize a lot of the public concern that he was snuffed
No...unless there are suspicious circumstances surrounding the death (in this case there doesn't seem to be) and his family said, "no". Sometimes, a 79 year old dying is just that. Hell, he outlived my dad by 20 years. His family was fortunate to have him around this long.

Well, Cinderella did say that he had a heart attack. I guess that is going to be how it goes down. Too many morons in this country don’t understand what Scalia’s death means to the future of America. It would seem like someone would want to know how he died.
Next to Austin and some of the larger urban centers, the area around the Davis Mountains of far SW Texas are some of the most leftist climes in the state. I would not be surprised in the least if the Justice of the Peace is an Obama acolyte.
Maybe there could be a push for a Federal law requiring it, but again some family will probably object on the basis of the Fourth Amendment. At least insist on a family override of this. It gets messy.
But at his age... this looks like grasping at straws and might not even be smart politics. Without some uniform law to cover the situation, who’s important? What about the death of someone like Nancy Pelosi?
I think this is a case of God highlighting what a risk America has gotten itself into, and that by failing to embrace Him.
Agreed. They may well have discussed the situation at length. There are those of us who have nightmares about being butchered, and ardently want no such a procedure unless absolutely demanded by law.

And who knows, maybe that’s the customary way he slept. At least some investigative journalism should go out before the tinfoil does.

Does Supreme Court have its own security force? They must use some sort of fed agents to provide security.

Scalia belongs to us, the Republican base, not the GOPe or the Dem-Socialist-Islamatics. His family might be under duress, we really don’t know how bad this is. Get Ben on a plane to Texas right now. Is the body still in Texas?
There’s recesses and then there’s adjournments.
The Senate can simply refuse to recess. It will adjourn for all its breaks until (probably) President Trump is sworn in.
Or they might have concerns about their own health.
