A procession of law enforcement officers early Sunday escorted the body of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia to a funeral home in El Paso, Texas, where officials are waiting to hear whether an autopsy will be performed....

Lujan said if an autopsy is requested by Scalia's family or ordered by a justice of the peace, then an El Paso County medical examiner would likely perform it at the funeral home.

Damn right for an autopsy seeing as we do not know the cause of death of a man who was in good health and it should be done by the Doc who the family wants.

Isn’t it standard procedure to do an autopsy, if an unattended body is discovered?

I suspect he died of natural causes, but why are there always, always, always irregularities surrounding anything that happens these days.

Oh no... who would want to find out what caused the death of someone who leftists are celebrating the death of? It couldn’t possibly have been caused by someone who discovered his security was lacking and who knew his death would remove one of the last obstacles to Obama administration’s final objectives.

I thought he had already been embalmed. Anyone know the Governor of Texas??? We want an autopsy!!!

Death scene is suspicious. Massive heart attack but hands folded on chest and sheets unrumpled.

Don’t trust Texas law enforcement, get the body out of there, and than do an autopsy.

There is nothing "standard" about this current corrupt government.

The fact that the standard protocol isn't being followed, especially for such a high-level official dying unattended away from his home and family, and that these conclusions are being rushed through at sonic speed without questioning points to high-level corruption in my book.

What's so tragic is that we'll probably never know that truth as long as the left is writing the history books, and coroners' reports.

Justice of the Peace didn’t see the body but pronounced the cause of death.

“Debating” an autopsy? This sounds like a “putin pill”! Yes, there should be an autopsy, and Ben Carson should do it! Besides being neutral and the most trusted Doctor in America today, he isn’t an operative of the Putin-like Obamanist regime. And it might help his campaign even, which is cool since Doctor Ben would make a grrat VP and it would be fun to call him up during his new Doctor Vice (President) radio talk show during Rtsh’s time slot. Discussing the autopsy would be engaging talk radio.

I don’t think anything unusual happened here. But there is an awesome book/movie that starts this way. I suck at writing but if any of you want to carry out the plot I’ll buy the book.

“Justice of the Peace didn’t see the body but pronounced the cause of death.”

That’s downright nutty; most everyone would at least get some sort of going over.

Unless Texas law has been changed since I last faced this sort of situation, an autopsy is essentially mandatory if the patient's own physician cannot certify the cause of death based on a clear history of serious illness likely to cause sudden death.

Texas has jurisdiction. I don't believe next-of-kin can waive an autopsy under the circumstances. I will be shocked if there is no autopsy. (Are there any Texas FReeper docs with recent experience relevant to this case?)

The point is, he was one of the highest ranking government officials in the US and an autopsy should be required. My brother was a harness horse driver, at fifty-three, just after finishing a race and taking the horse to the barn, collapsed. It was a state controlled racetrack, a squad was imminently available but could not resuscitate him due to what we found out later a massive heart attack. An autopsy was ordered by the state officials, we the family had no choice.
