Trump: ‘I don’t like’ what Scalia said about affirmative action
The Hill ^ | December 13, 2015 | Bradford Richardson

Posted on 02/14/2016 10:10:13 AM PST by Maceman

GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump says he does not agree with comments from Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia questioning the efficacy of affirmative action.

"I don't like what he said, no, I don’t like what he said. I heard him, I was like, 'Let me read it again,' because I actually read it in print, and I’m going, I read a lot of stuff, and I’m going, 'Woah,'" Trump said in an interview televised Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union."

The billionaire said he thought Scalia's comments were "very tough to the African-American community."

Trump, who has supported affirmative action in the past but declined to say whether he was in favor of it today, said he has great friendships with black people.

"I have great African-American friendships," he said. "I have just amazing relationships. And so many positive things have happened."

In oral argument for a case challenging affirmative action at public universities earlier this week, Scalia posited that minority students who were not qualified for admission at elite universities would perform better at "less-advanced schools."

Scalia was excoriated by Democratic lawmakers, including Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who called his comments "racist."

So you feel safer running one who says he’s not conservative on a host of issues?

How about one who said he was conservative and always voted accordingly? We have Cruz, Sessions, Mike Lee, etc. It’s shooting ourselves in the foot to not defend the minority of Republicans who live up to the Reagan/Gingrich legacy of making conservative change happen.

“So in addition to wanting to fund Planned Parenthood, “

I find it interesting that posters who use Biblical names, as you do, apparently have no compunction about deliberately breaking one of the Ten Commandments.

Doesn’t committing that sin bother you?

No, I don’t care because every word out of Trump’s mouth is under a microscope. He’s asked a question about affirmative action presented by the press in a negative context and his answer is not a personal insult to the Constitution.

These attacks are unbelievable, how every word is blown up 1,000 times, extrapolated to include the universe. Trump loved Scalia, always cited him as the justice he most admires. You can’t undo that with a sentence, sorry.

You create the nothing burgers

If you take nothing a candidate says or does seriously you are not serious

Of course if you are backing a joke it makes it understandable

Their commitment to Trump is stronger than their commitment to conservatism, truth, and facts. They've become more loyal to him than loyal to the conservative ideas they've held for many years. They don't care what he's done to harm conservatives in the past, or what he's paid for in opposition to conservatives in recent years, or what praise and funding he's given to Liberals; it's incredible, really. Could Hillary pull off the same con job? Nope. But they were on the same wavelength. He praised her and said she'd make a great president. He praised Obama many times. He trashed conservatives many more times. Now, he's suddenly the best man to represent us. And anyone who knows Trump's history and reveals it is not up to Trump's conservative standards! If we let this lying closet Liberal takeover, then we'll lose to whomever the Democrats run because most Americans won't be bamboozled by an ersatz conservative. Here is a notice to his supporters, most Republicans cannot stand Trump. Most Independents cannot stand Trump. And his "former" Democrats cannot stand him now that he's betrayed them (we'll be next if we give him the chance).

And Trump, in my opinion, intends to set conservatism back because he's not about it and conservatism is not about him. Does anyone believe Trump is for smaller government? He's only about him and he's using conservatism as long as it's situationally to his benefit. This is what he now calls "common sense conservatism," a term he'll use to say conservatism is whatever Donald Trump says it is. And his followers won't care that what they said they believed for 40 years isn't what Trump says conservatism is. They'll go with their false prophet. It's a sad day for conservatism when a man with so little integrity can be taken seriously.

No difference of opinion is allowed. You either agree/accept/support someone 100% or you hate them. This is ridiculous crap.

Actually you posted a nothing burger. Trying to project your nothing burger onto me is a junior high school tactic. You post an old story we all read & discussed to death back in December.

Try and come up with something current next time, k?

Go Trump!

Will you be disappointed in yourself when Trump does exactly as he had promised?

Go Trump!

Sorry folks. This is just one more reason to vote for Cruz and not Trump. I was harmed by affirmative action. It’s just racism of a different flavor. The fact that Trump is for it tells me he isn’t the person I thought he was. Trump just lost me permanently unless he gets the Nom.

Rubio lost me on the Gang of Eight deal but he is more conservative than Trump. If all you care about is immigration, and I do care about it, and hopefully getting the economy and jobs going better; then Trump might be your choice. That doesn’t mean Cruz can’t get the government out of the way so businesses can get the economy rolling again. He can and he would with the help of a compliant congress.

Trump doesn’t have a monopoly on doing that.

Post of the week, well said.

Reading some threads, I can’t believe I am on FR.

You at least give me hope the world hasn’t gone nuts.

Thanks, I think I am starting to understand this “controversy”

I still think in terms of sports, say basketball.
Why would you put a 5 foot 2 inch man, who cannot defend nor dribble nor pass, into the Kentucky Wildcats program? Just because to fill the requirements of an artificial government program?

The 5 foot 2 man will not absorb all of the advanced coaching, nor will that man advance to the NBA.

What will happen is the 6 foot 10 inch man with long arms and quick feet will miss out on the advanced coaching, and take longer to reach his full potential

If that’s true, and frankly, I don’t think it is, he’d then be just like the Republicans we elected to head the House in 2010 and the Republicans we elected to head the Senate in 2014.

And THAT is sad but true.

Also, I won’t defend Trump’s remarks over Scalia’s words. Trump was wrong. Scalia didn’t mean what Trump thought he did, that is blacks aren’t s smart as whites.

Trump is more Conservative on protecting this country and economics than the other candidates. He may not be as Conservative on social issues. But since you asked me a question, let me ask you one

Republicans are predominately pro life
Republicans have majorities in both the house and senate
Some democrats are also pro life
Americans are more pro life than in the last 20 to 30 years
Pretty much all Western nations have restrictions on abortions after 19 weeks
The bulk of Americans would recoil at the idea of selling body parts

And yet, our Congress could not defund PP or ban partial birth abortions? What the heck???? Enough of the excuses.

I don’t care what they call themselves if they could just be effective. I am not so sure they really want to do the things listed above, but instead they know this issue will keep us pro life people voting for them for years.

40 years and not an inch of progress. Enough.

Whatever, the republicans and democrats have joined forces to ignore the best interests of the Citizens.

Most republicans have stopped being conservative a long time ago.

Trumps platform is gaining support of conservatives : Build the wall, bring back jobs, throw out 0bamacare, take care of our vets, serve the Citizens, throw out the lobbyists, Pro-life from inception to natural birth
