GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump says he does not agree with comments from Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia questioning the efficacy of affirmative action.
"I don't like what he said, no, I donât like what he said. I heard him, I was like, 'Let me read it again,' because I actually read it in print, and Iâm going, I read a lot of stuff, and Iâm going, 'Woah,'" Trump said in an interview televised Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union."
The billionaire said he thought Scalia's comments were "very tough to the African-American community."
Trump, who has supported affirmative action in the past but declined to say whether he was in favor of it today, said he has great friendships with black people.
"I have great African-American friendships," he said. "I have just amazing relationships. And so many positive things have happened."
In oral argument for a case challenging affirmative action at public universities earlier this week, Scalia posited that minority students who were not qualified for admission at elite universities would perform better at "less-advanced schools."
Scalia was excoriated by Democratic lawmakers, including Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who called his comments "racist."
I love when you Trumpofiles blame Conservatives whenever Trump’s own words are quoted. But please, translate for the rest of us non-Trumpofiles what he really meant here.
He was trying to suck up to the media by agreeing that Scalia and conservatives are racist. Really simple but backfired.
Trump supporters are going to be very very disappointed when he suddenly reverts back to his liberal positions after his election then viciously attacks them when they complain about it.
What is Trump’s position on affirmative action?
Find a conservative principle. Find what Trump says about. Demonstrate that Trump’s view is contrary to the conservative consensus. Post it and get ready to have people attack you. For Trump is always right. Trump is never wrong. When Trump disagrees with Trump, there is no dilemma for his cult because Trump is always right.
Trump was talking like a politician, anticipating needing black votes?
GOP-e Sgt.-at-Arms, whack his pee pee!
But it’s OK to shamelessly pander to Latino Hispanicals.
“Find a conservative principle. Find what Trump says about. Demonstrate that Trumpâs view is contrary to the conservative consensus. Post it and get ready to have people attack you. For Trump is always right. Trump is never wrong. When Trump disagrees with Trump, there is no dilemma for his cult because Trump is always right.”
I’ve noticed that too. There’s a cult-like quality to the Trump followers, The refuse to entertain any evidence that their guy is not a conservative.
Scalia posited that minority students who were not qualified for admission at elite universities would perform better at âless-advanced schools.â
Why in the world would such an obvious and reasoned statement be the least bit controversial...?
.......................................................
Use of the word ‘advanced’.
By ‘elite schools’, we are talking Harvard, Yale, etc.
I don’t consider those schools more advanced. Quite the opposite.
If your grades didn’t get you into Harvard and someone said, “You should try a less advanced school”, what would your reaction be?
Good. The “Republican” frontrunner likes affirmative action? As I’ve said before, he’s not even a RINO.
Even if the evidence is overwhelming. The honest ones grudgingly admit that he's no conservative, and that it doesn't matter to them whether or not he is.
Do you care that Trump actually said it, that he smeared Scalia, the greatest justice of our time? Maybe ever. Do you care that he took Scalia’s words out of context and really showed he had no idea about the process of the court?
Uh...Donald....that’s because you’re NOT Conservative!!!
During my first year at University, many classmates were superstars at their high school. Many could not cope with the realization they were in fact middle of the road average.
Those who could not step up, dropped out.
I agree with both Scalia and Trump!
I do not believe Affirminative Action is generating the expected results. The Proffesor is not going to teach to the ability of the weakest student.
The billionaire said he thought Scalia’s comments were “very tough to the African-American community.”
The comments were tough. One has to decide if those tough words describe yourself. It’s a tough world after graduation.
..Scalia posited that minority students who were not qualified for admission at elite universities would perform better at “less-advanced schools.”
Very true, if you cannot keep up, some will become dejected and give up or drop out. That kind of Affirmative Action is helpfull to no one!
Those students would be better off learning at a different University.
In fact, the smart move is to earn year one and two at a smaller school. The content is the same, at less cost.
Then, get year 3 and 4 at Harvard, Yale, whatever.
We need to get these high potential students through a school that
Not everyone is a Dr. Ben Carson.
We need to be color blind.
Trump could shoot someone in the street and these people would make excuses for him.
Yeah, I see it.
The media carried Barry soetoro on their shoulders
The media works to tear down Republicians
The media is so dishonest
Thereâs a cult-like quality to the Trump followers, The refuse to entertain any evidence that their guy is not a conservative.
Why don’t you name me a republican that has run and NOT said they were a Conservative. How has that worked out for us?
Stand your ground law? :D
So in addition to wanting to fund Planned Parenthood, Trump is in favor of racial discrimination.
And the cult just nods their heads and goes along..........
+1
