India-born judge Srikanth Srinivasan favourite for elevation

In this September 27, 2013 photo, Sri Srinivasan takes oath as a judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Srinivasan is among President Barack Obama's likely options as he looks for a nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court to replace Justice Antonin Scalia, who died on Saturday.

He was Mr. Obama's principal deputy solicitor general, most notably working on the successful fight against the Defence of Marriage Act.

Death of a serving judge of the U.S. Supreme Court has set off acrimonious exchanges between the Democrats and the Republicans on whether President Barack Obama should nominate a new judge in the last year of his presidency. Mr Obama has declared that he would nominate a replacement for Antonin Scalia who died on Saturday at 79, ending a controversial tenure through which he steered the court towards right with a series of pronouncements.

India-born Srikanth Srinivasan whose family came to the U.S from a village in Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu figures as the most probable choice to succeed Scalia, according to media reports. Forty-nine year old Srinivasan is currently U.S. Circuit Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, which served as a stepping-stone for at least three judges of the SC. Scalia too was in the Court of Appeals for DC before President Ronald Reagan nominated him to the Supreme Court.

Judge Srinivasan's appointment was confirmed by the Senate unanimously in 2013, a rare event given the Republican majority in the chamber. His bipartisan acceptability is among the reasons cited by a lot of U.S. commentators who believe President Obama could pick him for the post.

a nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court to replace Justice Antonin Scalia...

That is the key. When 0' can replace Scalia, then the nomination should sail thru and be confirmed.

Hint: I mean an exact replacement, with the same name. Middle included.

Most of the Indians I know are notoriously liberal. Globalist, socialist types.

Yep. Most start out as seriously anti-gun. Interestingly, whenever we take them to the range, though, they frickin’ love it.

The Rino GOP Senate already confirmed Srikanth Srinivasan for judgeship once. Why would they do any different?

Senate Confirms a Judge, but Rancor Remains

By JEREMY W. PETERSMAY 23, 2013

WASHINGTON — Frustrations in the Senate over the slow pace of approval for President Obama’s second-term cabinet deepened Thursday even as the Senate voted 97 to 0 to confirm Mr. Obama’s nominee for a long-vacant seat on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

That vote to confirm the nominee, Sri Srinivasan, which was added to the calendar at the last minute after Republicans dropped objections that would have delayed it two more weeks

At least it is an election year. It's only time Senators make an effort at being the conservatives they run as.

“Judge Srinivasan’s appointment was confirmed by the Senate unanimously in 2013”

Thanks, GOP.

Did they think Scalia would LIVE FOREVER?!

I can certainly understand the pessimism with which you speak. I’ve been there, am largely there much of the time.

However, there is a point at which sheep who must lay down and die because the wolf has such fierce teeth that some semblance of fight, will-to-live, and right has to triumph. Otherwise, let’s all just hang it the eff up and vote for Obama’s choice and elect that harridan Hillary.

I am a big fan of “Band of Brothers.” There was a sideline story about a soldier that suffered from psychological blindness and uncertainty. Later on, one of the other ‘brothers’ told him “you have to know in your heart that here, now, you are already dead. When you realize that is when you become completely free of fear and can function as a soldier.”

We are at this point now.

Padmanabhan Srikanth “Sri” Srinivasan, a circuit court judge in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Before being confirmed, Srinivasan acted as Principal Deputy Solicitor General. He has argued 25 cases in front of the Supreme Court, and is a former Harvard Law School lecturer.

TAKE NOTE:

Srinivasan is known for having represented former Enron executive Jeffrey Skilling in his appeal before the U.S. Supreme Court, Skilling v. United States (2010).

Srinivasan had run into some opposition from some Obama supporters because of Srinivasan’s work in the U.S. Solicitor General’s office during the Bush administration and because of union animosity to Srinivasan’s corporate clients in private practice.

It looks like native born citizens of the United States can no longer qualify to govern the nation.

I know many people with ethnic names who are quite American, thank you very much. Yes, including people with names like Raj or Singh.

The focus should be on the liberalism of the possible nominee, not his ethnicity.
