Senior U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia found dead at West Texas ranch

Associate Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead of apparent natural causes Saturday on a luxury resort in West Texas, federal officials said.

Scalia, 79, was a guest at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa. According to a report, Scalia arrived at the ranch on Friday and attended a private party with about 40 people. When he did not appear for breakfast, a person associated with the ranch went to his room and found a body.

U.S. District Judge Fred Biery said he was among those notified about Scalia's death.

"I was told it was this morning," Biery said of Scalia's death. "It happened on a ranch out near Marfa. As far as the details, I think it's pretty vague right now as to how," he said. "My reaction is it's really unfortunate with any death. And now, politically, in the presidential cycle we're in my educated guess is nothing will happen before the next president is elected."

How will Cruz be approved by a senate that he brags hates him?

Just more incentive to get him out of their hair.

First and foremost, may God take his faithful servant, Antonin Scalia, into His hands and keep him safe. Second, prayers to his family and friends. Third, I pray for our country because we are so screwed right now. I can only hope that the Senate, led by Ted Cruz, will filibuster any nominee that Obama puts forward to sit on SCOTUS.

Scalia was one of Reagan’s greatest gifts to us.

Psst! I just checked and the LONGEST SUPREME COURT VACANCY was 2 years, 3 months, and 18 days. Therefore 11 months to fill this vacancy would be nowhere near the record.

OMG...Holder????? I am just sick.

I hope someone out there is willing to put a stop to this. If Holder must be put on the court then let Ginsburg retire.

There is nothing the President can do. The only thing he can try is a recess appointment, but that would expire at the end of the next session (2018?).

Please Lord watch over his family and our nation.

I am praying the strong senators like Lee, Cruz and Paul can tie and gag Mitch McConnell in order to stall any nominations until Obama is retired.

( I hate to think of the disgusting celebrations that must be going on at DNC right now)

Just touching base with technology today....

I am stunned. Rest in Peace good Jurist, Rest in Peace good man.

This is bad, very bad and we all know “blocking” the assent of a new jurist is fantasy.

So, all the more reason to make sure the election wrests the reins of power from the Democrats AND insures we place an United States loving, Constitution loving President and VP into office.

A very long and dark shadow is falling across our Nation.

Hopefully a contingent of Cruz, Sessions, Lee, Paul, and Cotton can fillibuster fully in shifts

Just set Rubio, the Memorizer Bunny on autoplay for a few days.

If he can remember where the Senate building is these days

“The Senate is Republican”..........

Too bad their leaders are republicans as well. So far McConnell has bowed down to odumbo at every turn and I don’t see him putting up any road blocks now either.

Why couldn’t each standing SCOTUS select another judge as their “backup” before they pass away or retire instead of giving the President the choice to select all of them? at least the odds would stay the same.

The Senate delayed the Loretta Lynch Atty General appointment for 6 months.

No President is going to let this drag out a year. This is a big, big deal.

Plus, how in the world is a President Elect going to go about nominating a Justice without a staff, etc. It would be 18 months. And there are many things the new President needs to hit the ground running on.

Plus, I can see this whole thing tilting the Senate Elections and the Presidential Election. Justices aren't elected, but that is what the whole Election will be about.

The more I think about it, the more I hope Obama will get together with Senate leaders and submit a consensus candidate that can be confirmed with little contention from either side. And BEFORE the political party conventions this summer.

If Obama decides to submit someone who can't be confirmed, then it will be on him and this will not get done.
