The most disappointing moment of Saturday nightâs debate came when Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, and Marco Rubio each embraced the idea that women should register with the selective service, making it possible for America to draft women into ground combat. The argument for registration is based on the new Pentagon policy opening up all combat jobs to women. Women have served in non-combat roles for decades without any serious push for selective-service registration ensuing. In fact, the Supreme Court, in Rostker v. Goldberg (1981), has used the fact that men and women have different roles as justification for rejecting constitutional objections to the all-male draft. We have repeatedly condemned the Obama administrationâs decision to open all combat roles to women, and we have mainly done so by citing a combination of contemporary studies and historical experience to make the case that gender-integrated ground-combat units are less effective than their all-male counterparts. But that is not the only argument. Indeed, there are other fundamental reasons to oppose not just the presence of women in the infantry but their forcible conscription into its ranks. Such a policy inverts natural law and the rules that have grounded our civilization for thousands of years.

When it comes to survival of a nation, look to what Israel requires of its citizens regarding military service.
So....who will be caring for all the children? The government?
“In fact, the Supreme Court, in Rostker v. Goldberg (1981), has used the fact that men and women have different roles as justification for rejecting constitutional objections to the all-male draft.”
But yet, Obama has demanded that there not be different roles. So ergo, sign up.
Only a barbaric nation it’s babies to be killed on demand.
It’s a question of need. I would argue we don’t currently need it. But if the barbarians were at the gate, my wife would be out with rifle in hand.
That has been the argument for why women shouldn’t work. Women wanted the chance to work. Don’t use it now to justify staying home.
Yep. Government style family planning. A way to eradicate abortion is to rid society of women!

I have no problem registering women for the draft. I do have a problem putting women in front line combat roles.
If the women and daughters didn’t vote liberal politicians into office I don’t think it would be an issue.
Discriminating against men on the basis of need shouldn’t be an excuse when requiring them to sign up but giving ladies a free pass.
I don’t believe women should be on the front line for all kinds of reasons.
But we are facing an issue where men are forced to let them on the front line.
If you required women to sign up this might be the catalyst to change this whole debacle.
Only barbaric nations force men into it to protect women and a state that have robbed those men of their rights and dignity back home in order to enrich themselves.
And only evil people hide behind “Chivalry” and “white knighting” so they dont have to pretend like they dont notice.
Look at what the Soviets did during WWII. Entire squadrons of bombers and fighters flown by women. Tanks with women crew members, tanks with women commanders, tank battalions with women commanders, women snipers, women field medics in infantry units. Women on artillery crews. When it comes to survival of a nation, there is no second place.
Point #2: Israel has it as a last resort because they have no choice. And it's not like ALL our gals are incapable. There are women operators on the CAG (aka Delta Force) and who work with the SEALs and who work even with the ODA's just as a matter of course (but all female contact teams).
Point #3 It would take a real draft literally YEARS to spin up to full steam. This argument is really still just an issue for social conservatives and has no serious merit. It's a talking point. I doubt it will ever come to that. I think that if the need were that dire, you'd see them start recalling former active duty (like me) or retirees. There would be no shortage of eager, well trained albeit slightly out of shape volunteers.
Israel experimented with women in frontline combat roles.
They quickly reversed course. It proved to be impractical for a whole host of reasons.
To answer your question, Cruz has come out completely against it. I don't know how Trump feels about it. Depends on the day I guess.
I’m ex-infantry. For a wide variety of reasons, I’d prefer to keep w/o.en out of the draft, front lines or not, until the need is truly great. The presence of women in military units greatly eroded overall effectiveness if not just for the amount of grabass that goes on. Ask me about my brief stint as a 12C someday.
and yet the sons are denied college loans and government training and jobs if they don’t register for the draft..which is all that would be required of the girls too...
the boys are penalized if they don’t but the girls don’t need too ??? either do away with the requirement for boys or include the girls too...
BTW the draft did not always lead to combat..there are many support jobs that are far from the battle field...women hold those jobs too...
