Tea Party-backed Senate candidate Ted Cruz points with pride to the army of small conservative donors supporting him. But his largest longtime contributor is a gay billionaire who supports same-sex marriage and marijuana legalization, campaign finance filings show.
Peter Thiel, a German-born hedge fund manager and founder of the online payment system PayPal, gave Cruz $251,000 in 2009 for his aborted run for attorney general. The money represented 19 percent of the total raised for that campaign, which Cruz ended after Attorney General Greg Abbott decided to run for re-election.
Thielâs political and financial support for gay rights and legal marijuana, among other causes, have made him a lightning rod in the U.S. Senate race. donations from Thiel show Cruz is âdeceivingâ Texans about his political alliances.
Itâs hypocritical and deceitful for Ted Cruz to claim to be a Tea Party Republican when his largest donor spends millions of dollars pushing the opposite side of conservative issues important to Republicans
Thiel is listed as a member of the steering committee of the Bilderberg group, which stages a yearly gathering that brings together influential world leaders in politics, business and other fields to discuss international affairs. The secret meetings have prompted protests by activists who allege they are being staged to create a new world order and capitalist domination.
Glenn Addison, who was in the GOP Senate primary but didnât make the runoff, said the Bilderberg connection worries him.
âBirds of a feather flock together,â Addison said. âI think voters need to be concerned and ask about whatever alliances people have that are running for office.â

He didn’t dodge the issue about faux marriage (the oxymoron, of “same sex marriage”), he simply pointed out that it is not primarily a Federal issue. The Police Powers, the right to legislate on health, safety & morals, were retained by the States, in the Constitution.
bump
That’s a dodge, according to the way activists portray their position on the issue.
He needs to get in or get out. Which is it? And I’m only saying that because that’s exactly the tack that activists/ Cruz supporters would would take toward any other person they perceived as ‘wishy-washy’ regarding gays.
I am really sick of the double standard & hypocrisy- not just about this, but on most of the things Cruz supporters are going on about.
There’s a REASON the Lord Told us not to judge other people. And that went right in one ear & out the other.
Really? ‘’ . . .The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.’’ SPECIFIES health, safety, & MORALS?
No, it doesn’t.
Cruz is a globalist liberal-tarian, first and foremost.
I’ll bet a few faggies donated to a lot of conservative candidates. So what?
Gregory T. Angelo of Log Cabin Republicans, speaking of Donald Trump.
Not to mention Mitt Romney, whom a lot of Freepers here supported. "The Father of 'gay marriage' in America."
Must be Ted has no problem taking homo money. He did say gay marriage was not a priority.
libbylu an opus hypocrite. One of the worst kind. Principles not important, just the instant knee jerk drama.
looks very much like one of over 8 billion mailers sent by publisher’s clearinghouse
We shall see soon.
People don’t donate money unless they get a favor in return.
So what favors did Trump get when he donated money to democrats?
That’s for sure!
I am SO disappointed though - all these years of donating to various political causes and I haven’t received a single favor in return! You can’t trust any of them!
So you would never donate to a politician (or any other entity) unless they did you a direct favor in return?
Thiel has said that he donated to Cruz in 2012 because he thinks that Republicans need smarter people in Congress.
He made it perfectly clear in the discussion with the contributor, that he was not endorsing an abomination. Again, this is a cheap shot.
LOL WOW. Talk about spinning. . .
ROFLOL @ ‘’does not spin his wheels PONTIFICATING. . .’’? snort
Holy Cow, that’s a keyboard drowner.
According to your associates, it IS a moral issue. I have been flamed on this very board for not speaking strongly enough against gays or ‘marriage’ (I forget which. I think it had to do with the Kim Miller thing) as a . . . oh, I dunno WHAT the accusation was. OR CARE.
How do you know if he ‘’made clear he wasn’t endorsing an abomination’’? Were you there?
My issue with this is the MORAL RELATIVISM and THE HYPOCRISY of it.
Y’all will damn somebody to hell & back, then TURN RIGHT AROUND & roundly condemn someone- who is NOT of your sect, for doing virtually the same thing.
Cheap shots- well, y’all are looking like the EXPERTS in throwing cheap shots.
I’ll give y’all one thing. Every encounter with one of you is INCREDIBLE.
>>Which he then lied about!
You mean we should expect actors and TV starz/celebrities/politicians to be concerned with having character - instead of just playing one?
“Ooooh, look at all the cameras - it’s just like the Oscars!”
—Der Trumpenfuhrer
It’s how it works nobody is sane GIVES money away.
That’s the question we never hear about from any hack.
John D. Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie were not insane and neither is Bill Gates.
